Great video! You are on target, Lations especially first generation American have little understanding on how to get a college education. I joined the Military after high school and today I have an MBA. It was a longer road than the traditional path to college 🎓
I agree with almost every thing Dr. Martínez says. My understandings, observations and experience have much as she describes. It is an urgent matter and it’s not being systemically prioritized. This is not only to the detriment of Latinos but the nation as a whole because we are such a large portion of the population. That being said, I always get a little wary when I hear about the successes of charter schools; it’s a little easier to claim victory when you don’t have to accept Special Ed, English Learners or behaviorally at-risk youth and the luxury to funnel money away from those populations only makes things worse. I think our fight is within the public school system not away from it.
I can't disagree any harder. You are promoting segregation by saying that latinos need latino schools. No we do need school that service all, not a few. Also the success of a student is not defined by going to college. Lastly Dr. Martinez is proof that the system IS working. Dr. Martinez is a role model for those interested on that career path. But we need more high schools like the one she went to. That focus on the student not college.
I’m here for this, thank you Dr. Martinez! Ted talks you should an in her accreditation that she worked hard for!

Yes, so true, I wish I had a rigorous curriculum in high school and college knowledge programs. NOT FAIR!
