    A 70s "latch-key" kid here; only child. When I tell you how this man combated the lonliness of an inner-city kid, along with the nasal baritone narration of Paul Lally, it is not an exaggeration. Paul gave my classroom recitations "color" when I would read. John made me a better artist. Together, they were the pretend friends I was more than glad to settle for! Thanks, guys, for your much appreciated service & company!!

    I was sitting in a Starbucks in Alexandria Virginia in the 90s. (93?) I was looking out the window. Two men quickly passed by the window. Some unconscious part of my brain reacted. I called out "JOHN!" and promptly ran out, leaving my backpack behind. I called his name again as I ran to catch up. They stopped and turned. "I had such a crush on you in grade school!" His partner laughed out loud. John said: "I'm surprised you could recognize this old face." It was such a pleasure to shake his hand and tell him how much he meant to me. I still get shivers thinking about it. And I still have that crush. :o)

      John's sister (Ms. Robbins) was my 5th-grade teacher in Maryland, back in the late '60s. She tried to get him to come to her class to give a presentation, but he was just too busy during that time.

    I would watch this show as a kid growing up in queens new york. I had an art pad and color pencils. I would sit on my blanket in the living room and would draw what he was drawing while he told the story from the book he chose. Very fond memories indeed. Rest in peace John. 🙏

    More episodes, please! John Robbins created so much inspiration and had multiple shows: "Tell Me A Story"; "Read It", "The Book Bird"... Why is there so little material online for a show that ran so long (even under so many guises and pseudonyms)..? It was my favourite show when I was a child... I believe we nee more shows like these - those that demonstrate that one form of art inspires another. Thank you for posting this!

    He actually had a bunch of similar shows from the mid-60s to the mid-90s - Gather 'Round, Cover to Cover, The Book Bird, Storybound, Read It with John Robbins, Books from Cover to Cover, More Books from Cover to Cover, Read On: Cover to Cover, probably some other variations I've never heard of... And of course none of it is available anywhere. Which is too bad - I'd lay down serious cash for episodes in even VHS quality. Thanks EduTvArchive for preserving some of it!

      @Rennard Cotton The original source you recorded them from looks really good, way better than I would expect. It's a shame the capture isn't as good. Not sure where you were recording them from or what method you were using, but couldn't you have at least hidden your task bar?

    • @mikehartman5290
      @mikehartman5290 3 года назад

      @Rennard Cotton I don't know what recording method you were using but that makes no sense at all. You're apparently recording your whole desktop, it's going to be the same size whether you've configured Windows to auto-hide the task bar or not...

    • @mikehartman5290
      @mikehartman5290 3 года назад

      @Rennard Cotton I didn't say anything about using another computer. I'm saying if you're going to tell your recording software to record your whole desktop you should at least tell Windows 10 to hide your task bar. It's a setting.
