Whenever I see old pbs shows like this one, It's like seening an old friend that I have'nt seen in years, I just love watching old pbs shows like this one, Kid's today don't know what they're missing when they see these old pbs shows like this one, Anything's better then Spoongebob Squarepants and Mickey Mouse.
Cool show. I watched this in the early 80s. PBS should gather all their classic shows such as this & put on a retro tv channel. Nothing but classic shows. Other ones could be Electric Company, The Letter People, Draw With Me, Sesame Street, 3-2-1 Contact & Inside Out. Some people don't have access to youtube & other internet access.
I recently contacted both Pbs and Neb dept of Edu who had hands in recording and such.. A gentleman from NDE said many of them were recorded live because tape was too expensive. He also said of the ones recorded many were sent to the Nebraska historical society... I think it would be awesome to have a retro channel...I'm already streaming reruns of Alf and gummy bears...haha
Always loved the opening sequence. I moved to Omaha about 20 years ago and rented an apartment just around the corner from Joslyn Castle, where they filmed it. It's an amazing piece of architecture both inside and out. Whenever I'd walk by, I'd always picture the witch chasing the librarian around the grounds.
I remember watching this show in my pre-k class when I was about 5 years old. We would watch it when we came in from recess and the teacher would put it on during nap time…. Now I’m graduating college next week and am about to turn 22. It’s so crazy how fast time flies… this show brings back so many memories 💗
I too Remember watching this, the best part was when the witch came out, and the Librarian handed her the story that was read, the witch would look at the book, and would walk a few feet away, She would look up and started asking question and would pause waiting for an answer, then She would ask the Librarian to get her another story, The Librarian would ask a question and She would pause waiting for an answer, This was one of the best Shows of my Childhood, Second to Sesame Street (Off-Topic: Before It was screwed up), Shining Time Station, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Captain Kangaroo, Square One TV, Etc. etc.
I just love this show so much, I remember in my Kindergarten Class in Canton, South Dakota, our Kindergarten Teacher would make us sit down on the floor, and she would turn on the Tv, and we would watch this show, and the Libriain would hand the witch (after the librian got dune reading that day's story) storybook, and the witch would walk to one-side, She would look at the book, would start to ask questions, and would pause waiting for an answer, and We would answer her.
Hey! What year did you go to Kindergarten in Canton? I went to E.O. Lawrence Elementary in Canton, till 3rd grade. If I remember right, I would've been in Kindergarten in possibly 1978.
I’ve tried to find this show on RUclips for years now. I could never remember the name of it. I don’t remember much about kindergarten, but I remember watching this.
This is like seeing an old friend that I haven't seen in years, God I wish that Dish Network would have a Network that's only for old School PBS Shows Like This one, and Square One TV, Star Lore, Storylords, Is-land Treasure, Captain Kangaroo, Mister Roger's Neighborhood, The Letter People, Shining Time Station, 3-2-1 Contact, Zoobliee Zoo, Etc. etc. Because Kids Today Don't know what Good Shows are these days.
Therapist - “I’d like to try and get to the root of what’s been bothering you. Can you please start from the beginning?” Me - “Well doctor, it all started in ‘87 with a PBS show called Once Upon a Time...”
lol, that is so funny, omg. i still remember watching this when i was living on a farmhouse in canton south dakota, and also in my kindergarten class too. I also remember answering the questions, that the libarian and the witch would ask the viwers. thanks for uploading these old pbs shows, it's like taking a walk down memory lane.
If I Only Had One Wish, It Would Be To Relive The Old PBS Shows Like This One All Over Again, I Hope When My Niece's Are Older, I'm Going To Introduce These Old PBS Shows To Them. So That They'll Enjoy Them, Like I Have Before Them.
wow, god i miss this and other old pbs shows, i used to watch this and other old pbs shows when i was young and living on the farm in canton, south dakota. Left and Right, ans Zackery-Zoo, here's a Story, Just for you. Man I remember those magic words.
Mid-70's. Nebraska got a large legal settlement from NBC when the network accidentally put out their logo which looked almost exactly like the Nebraska Public TV Network logo. Part of the deal included a huge amount of state of the art (for it's time) TV camera and production equipment.
I don't want to ruin the nostalgia for everybody, but I always sensed a dark sexual vibe from this show, even at a way too young age to put my finger on any of it.
Was this broadcast outside of Nebraska? Also what was the exact dates the show was produced? Can't seem to find anything on the internet including the IMDB boards.
This used to be the most interesting story line and acting amnd music score on nebraska pbs. Now I'm sure that the christian taliban that "never like to read much" would ban it
Such a strange show given this was the height of the Satanic ritual abuse in Omaha/Lincoln area. Yes I remember being forced to watch this show and a lot of other weird things too.
Used to watch this in ND when I was 5. Good times, good times

Just amazing to see this again. Thank you RUclips. Nostalgia from elementary school.
I remember that when I was a kid and home sick for school.

One of my very favorites!!!
It's one of the few shows I remember watching in kindergarten at school.

I'm just across the border in Iowa and remember watching this on my days off of school.

They used to show it to us in school sometimes. We all used to say the magic words along with her
Did Marian ever get to leave?
Yes. In the final episode, Kerfumbly got a library card and was able to read all the stories she could ever want.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A DREAM AAAAAAAAAAAA MEMORIES AAAAAAAA
5 year old me was always upset because she would never let Marian go, even though she'd tell her she would
This now out of print series goes back to the late 1970s

Vaguely remember this show.
Gotta admit that story though was pretty morbid.
I don't want to ruin the nostalgia for everybody, but I always sensed a dark sexual vibe from this show, even at a way too young age to put my finger on any of it.

I watched it in Iowa. I believe it was on in the mid 80s.
We watched it in South Dakota at school in the mid 80's.
UNO should start making new episodes. That would be amazing.
Does anyone remember the show with the pirate or the show with the space kids ?
I-Land Treasure and Star Lore. There's a few episodes of each series on this channel.
Same here!
Foxy loxy walked with henny penny, Foxy loxy ate henny penny :(

"forced"? Please!
This series was made in the 70's, before people got bible-banger weird.
