It might help my analysis if I knew what Genesis was beyond the biblical reference.

Which is why suppressing and rejecting modrrn Star Trek is not desirable. Because its best elements are needed now perhaps more than ever. To let it slip quietly into the past like the outer limits and other quality thought provoking shows is to betray it's legacy.

      Hello, David:
I am unclear on what you mean by "modern Star Trek". Do you refer to ALL Star Trek (including Bad Robot and Secret Hideout productions), or do you refer to "old Trek" (with a cut-off sometime before, say, 2009)?
I am an original trekkie from 1966. My personal Star Trek is TOS and the first six movies. I love it because it is optimistic. It expresses a belief in humanity, in our ability to work together to make the world a better place, a belief which is realistic when you consider what we have achieved in the preceding 12000 years in medicine, technology, science, arts, humanities, food, and longevity.
      Live long and prosper.

@@MarkRyan-u3u Those that you mention are not star trek. They are or were produced by other organisations who do not own the licence. They are comic tributes or parodies. No I refer to such contributions as Star Trek Strange New Worldd or Star Trek Prodigy. Both include such lessons and optimism akin to those original Star Trek qualities that you approve of. Sadly some people have arbitrarily cut off dates that do not relate to story content or intention and so discourage others from enjoying any Star Trek beyond those dates. Hespirfising the production of future stories like spoiled children packing away their toys in anger because they are not getting their way. They also claim that stories they personally dislike are badly written which again is hugely subjective. Meanwhile such episodes as Spock's Brain and The Way to Eden and even Star Trek 5 are immunised from such critisisism, seemingly due to the calendar. Ironically some scenes in Star Trek five are beautifully acted and very Star Trek. Plus the opening sequence to Spock's Brain is very dramatic and suspenseful. But I'm being open minded. Which seems out of fashion in fandom today. Many prefer a very dogmatic and rigid Canon to feel comfortable. The irony of their position is that it is exactly opposite to that of Gene Roddenberry, who you might imagine they would respect. He was an innovator after all. Took great risks in 1964 to make very radical points for the time about sexism and racism for exsmple. As Star Trek Discovery has in recent times. It is occasionally a challenging watch. Just as The Cage was for many over half a century ago. Mr Roddenberry was an experimenter. He was not into dogma as many current fans are. Recent shows have taken risks. Occasionally missed the mark spectacularly. Yet these shows have shifted timeframes. Jettisoned certain characters and brought back beloived legacy characters in an effort to please fans. Yet the prejudiced refuse to recognise both the experimentation or the attempts to satisfy long term fans. It reminds me of watching Lokai and Bele as they fought over their skin colour. A very sad, sign of our intolerant times. That's what I mean. Some have gone as far as to threaten the lives of producers. I sometimes wonder if Gene Roddenberry was threatened for putting George Takei and Nichelle Nicholls on his starship of dreams? After all during the late 1960s, civil unrest was raging in America. It seems that the Metron prediction about our potential is still a distant dream. Maybe one day?

Agreed, it’s disheartening that many are quick to just write off everything post-Enterprise because it doesn’t conform to their view and they don’t respect the people who do like it.

@myriadmediamusings Yes. But it is worse than that. They ignore the passage of time. The music people. The makeup people etc etc. These people try to entertain us. Personally, i found lower decks ill disciplined and weak. Highly unfunny but people celebrated it. But certain people celebrated the end of Discovery. I liked a lot of it. But am grateful to it for4l opening th3 door forcl Strange New Worlds and yes for Lower Decks too. Not for me but others. Even J J Trek kept the torch flickering. So this intolerancrle is actually anti Star Trek.
