I only read a few comments, and it is amazing how misinformed and paranoid people are.
There are comments saying RUclips rather to promote bad content instead of good ones.
There are comments saying that this video teach us nothing.
But actually, this video is telling us only one thing: to keep our content with the better quality as we can, don't matter how long it takes.

I'm a daily vlogger for now, and recently I decided to keep my vlogs short. I tested one out yesterday (below 3 minutes and 30 seconds), and boy was I shocked to finally see a video that didn't have any sort of people quitting way too early on!

This video completely met my expectations on how informative it would be. I had very low expectations.
I watched this video 2 months ago, at that time everyone around me was talking about "shorter is better" and I was working on a documentary !!the word you said it "it depends on how your topic takes" made a big difference in my believing system.
I kept going, guess what?! the video that made me hit the 1000 sub and 4000 hrs was 15 min and it was documentary!

I use to make 10-15 minute videos about 2x a week. My audience kept asking for longer videos so I started making 20-30 minute long videos. Trouble is, longer videos take longer to produce so then they get mad that they're not getting 2 videos per week. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. There's no satisfying everybody. Whatever your length of video is, the most important thing is to stay consistent. I tried going back to shorter videos and that pissed them off! Your audience gets use to certain lengths so stick within a very specific time frame. I learned this the hard way.
Exactly, you are 100% right. Videos contents' satisfaction level really matters, so video length should match video content's usefulness.

This is a creator preference in my opinion. Rule #1 - Create videos that you’d watch. Because at the end of the day, you have to be satisfied with the finished product. Your audience will find you and follow you.

Why you didn't even mention that a video must be over 8 minutes so that a creator can have 3 ads instead of 2!? That's quite important information for creators.

Translation: We don't want to tell you how the algorithm works because we don't want creators to game it. We do favour videos based on time but we can't reveal specifics or it will decrease the effectiveness of the algorithm to distinguish quality content from dross

I'm starting to make longer videos partially because I would rather watch longer videos myself and also partially because I enjoy making longer videos more than shorter videos. There was a time when I preferred making shorter videos. I don't think it matters. It matters doing what you are passionate about. Follow your dreams.

I've learnt by myself experimenting with the length and content quality the exact same thing mentioned in the video.
Consider what is actually being said here. Pretty much it amounts to: make your videos as long as you think they need to be. Don't worry about the length, because that won't help you get more views. All of these videos essentially deliver the same message - there is no way to make a change calculated to increase your views that is reliable. So just don't worry about it. End of.

I learned this in high school English class when a fellow student asked how long a term paper should be. You know students look to hit a word count... Mr Smith's answer: "As long as it takes to explore the content." Now, being concise, punchy and satisfying is key to the content as well...

Thank you for confirming what I thought. Focus on content quality and not video length. Plus RUclips is focusing heavily on Shorts now. Therefore, short and spicy could lead to great rewards in the future
After the changes in algorithm around 2018, my channel and many others started dying. I had been getting much more views and constantly progressing until 2017, although having significantly fewer subs then. Currently almost all views of my new videos come from external sites or search engine. I get almost nothing from main page or suggested videos. Even next to my own videos, the suggested ones are not from my channel (although they are related to each other). My videos are found valuable by viewers, as they are often shared externally and are always positively received. Unfortunately RUclips keeps hiding them and showing boring, much worse and prolonged videos of the same topic instead. Very demotivating for a creator to be treated like this after 9 years of uploading...

No. There’s a reason why feature films, episodes, and songs are a certain length. Those lengths represent the average viewer / listener’s attention span. Keep your vids under ten minutes for most content. The average video length is around 10-11 minutes for this reason.

I am happy with this, I make One Minute Videos and people kept pressing me that was a mistake. But I like to be unique and my one-minute videos are unedited and show what I want to show, to people so they can make up their own minds about daily life int the countries I visit. I dislike making longer videos< i do it sometimes, but I feel I step way out of my comfort zone and that shows. Thanks for reassuring me that it does not only depend on video length.

Often viewers, myself included are satisfied watching just 1 minute videos. I mean instagram and youtube shorts is just about that. Often I even prefer them because long videos, atleats 1/3rd of the time is absolute waste, sometimes more. So satisfaction can't be measured by the length of a video
Great points, Cristos. We feel like when a creator is passionate about what they are creating, the audience who also shares that passion will watch that creator's videos. It's good to hear that we're on the right track as our viewership is consistently on the rise. Albeit, we aren't mega creators like some of the channels that have been around for ages, but it's cool to connect with people all over the world who are commenting, liking and sharing our content.

Thank-you for this, everyone keep telling me videos need to be over 10mins, but quite frankly in this modern day and age, people are on the run a lot and often its the short sharp punchy videos that are creaming the views. That definitely helps put it in perspective. And although it's hard as a creator to be successful these days. I do like the fact that the algorithm is skewing in the audience's satisfaction direction. I just wish that the notification system would be different. As in having the subscribe button really mean something again. But just my take. Thanks :)

Another doubt I have been trying to find an answer for is this: "Does RUclips care about the number of videos/combined size of all videos in the channel? Say, that a particular channel has 50 videos. Would such a channel receive greater push and higher ranking as per RUclips's Algorithm?
Hard to say, but it looks like you mean a snowball effect. The more videos you have, the more likely some of them will be recommended. Seems logical.
Well, Even I have this doubt, I put 1 video per day , I am in RUclips over 3 1/2 years now. I have around 1150+ videos already. But sincerely I don't think more the video the RUclips's Algorithm helps.
If you leave a bread crumb trail, or promote your own videos in your videos... you will help the audience, and the algorithm find you again, and again. It's ok to ask for a like, subscribe, and another view in every video.👍👍

Yes, I think the point is in this sentence: "If it takes 2 minutes to communicate what you want to say, make a 2 minutes video, if it takes 20 minutes, make it 20 minutes".
Mine are 2 - 4 mins I want to give my viewer a quick moment to enjoy art. This seems to work 😊

I'd say it depends on the video. For example, say I were to play Sonic the Hedgehog or some other platformer. I TRY to aim for my video after editing and everything to be between 12 and 20 minutes. Playing a video game with a stronger story I'd try to aim for a longer video. For example, my Little Misfortune video I recently uploaded is roughly an hour long due to the nature of the game as it is a click and point. If I were to make all shorter videos of the game my viewers nor I would get to a satisfactory amount of the story's progression and it would take MUCH longer to finish.
Rating should be added just after completion 50% of the video played.

I like short to the point videos usually less than five minutes. Music videos are OK if they are longer.

Great to hear that you are trying to introduce a rating system. For my videos I get the feedback that they are very well explained so that people don´t have to ask questions or comment on them. I have 99,5% like vs dislike ratio, my videos are rather short, yet most of my viewers come from outside resources like facebook, etc. and hardly anyone from youtube search. So IMO it needs some more ranking factors.
