  • Wildlife spectators!!! Wheat Harvest 2021 Montana
    In today's video, I have some spectators: an owl, a whole flock of Golden Eagles learning how to fly, and some baby pheasants! They made my day!!! I am driving my Dad's new combine with the dual tires because he is getting the 3rd combine ready to go after putting the new seal in it. Jim is driving my combine and we are harvesting winter wheat on our Montana farm. I explain a lot of things today and I am very happy that we now have three combines in the field. We see Darcy in his semi-truck. You will get to see what a coulee or ravine looks like. We can even see another field fire in the distance. Thank you for watching and I hope you like my video!!

    My Story…
    Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

    Kate, I would rate this video as one of your best. I saw quite a bit of leadership on your part which warmed my heart. I have the feeling that Dad and Grandpa are grooming you for exactly that - Leadership. Don't ever loose that enthusiasm nor your passionate love for animals. Maybe you could start something locally to replenish the population of ring neck pheasant in the area. I would bet that some of the other subscribers and fans would kick in a few bucks to that end. Keep the faith! Mr Ray

      After watching many of Kate's videos I can't help but feel like she was very inquisitive as a child. Sweet little Kate, riding in Dad and Grandpa's combine, noticing every lever and button, asking "what"s that lever do?..why did you push this button. Why did that little light just come on?.. .can I pull the lever, and push the button?.. Dad, when can I drive the combine?" Lol. I expect we'll continue to see impressive things from Kate. She reminds me of the woman from the Titanic movie who had all of those interesting photos of her life on the shelf in her twilight years, of all the adventurous things she did when she was young. Like riding horses, flying barn storming bi-planes, climbing mountains, and generally being the kind of unbridled spirit and refreshing light that the Sunshine walks beside. Unstoppable Kate!

      Yes in the UK we have hedges and Trees and untouched areas for insects, Birds, Pheasant, Partridge and the rest of nature including pests and nasty bugs, to have sex in and increase their numbers, or just stop by for lunch. I'm sure Grandpa would love a Devon UK 10ft high and eight foot wide Hedge teaming with wildlife dividing all his fields up, not. We can do that here because the government doesn't like us Farming, they would sooner import until the Uboats turn up, then divert boats meant for others.
      So Uk farmers can be paid to make the place look neat and tidy and pretend to Farm with exotic breeds. Farming has never been supported properly in the UK since the empire. Recently the leaders have decided to import grain fed Beef from Australia, much cheaper than we can grow it on grass.
      In Devon I can see which Farmer owned that days Beef so I know which Farm it came from as it's probably only two miles away. Which is best?
      Water is also a great attractor of wildlife, but not all of it is welcome if you have Trout or your own Ducks. Increasing Wildlife increases those that feast on them, but that's Nature and it's still great to see.

Most people now days have never grown a garden and so do not know what it takes to produce the food we eat ever day .We go to the Grocery Store and by the food items we want and most have no idea how much time, effort and processing it takes to enjoy a nice loaf of Bread.

I imagine the condition of your fields is similar to here in Alberta, dry with lowered yields, so the fewer difficulties the better. Looking forward to seeing more of you and your family as you make a living at the most confounding occupation in the world. Give my best to your dad, uncles and all others who help on the farm. Hi Katie, I am an old ex-farmer. I'm 74 and over 35 years ago I farmed 5000 acres of 6000 farm, which is called broad acre farming.
    The area was 300 km (245miles) from Mackay Qld Australia. The area was called Wolfang near Clermont Qld Australia. We called it very marginal country for growing wheet, Chick Peas, Sorghum, and Sunflowers . The 6 years we farmed we had very dry weather..
    I was only a Share farmer and I never owned the land.
    I knew a farmer from Montana, who came to an area I am familiar with, Biloela Qld Australia, his name was Jack Byrd his wife was Elizabeth, and had 4 sons.
    I realized Montana is a large state and I don't expect you or your family would know Mr Byrd, but he was very happy to tell me all about it.
    Thank you for sharing the videos of the vast area in Montana. I now live in Kingsthorpe Qld Australia, west of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland Australia. Love your chanel. Noel.

    Ok I am a new subscriber to channel. Your channel popped up while I was perusing RUclips. I went ok let me see what this is about. HOOKED. I might have 10 notifications from my other channels but I have to see Kate first. Now some out there might go “This is so boring. Watching a woman riding in a combine cab talking about wheat.” But I find it interesting the continual narrative about the machinery you are driving and what’s going on in the field. Now I have to catch up on all the videos. I am commenting on this one because you missed seeing, I guess, a deer to your left at the 19:10 mark. In other videos you have been so efficient at spotting wildlife. And BTW I believe in this video you said your first combine solo was at age 12. Any lady that’s doing that is alright by me. Keep up the good work. I am from Texas a farming state but I would like to see a video of the wheat from sprig to ready to harvest stage. Just to get a perspective of what it takes at various stages to make a crop.

    Please wear your seat belt when on the road at speed. Another youtuber was seriously hurt a year or two ago when he hit a bump and the header dug into the road. At least I think that is how he got hurt. Threw him through the windshield.

    Wow Kate!, On this September 6 day you were the, “leader of the pack!“, for your family farm. Great work and leader ship! It is pretty cool that even though you had the responsibility to lead your family team you still took the time to enjoy and appreciate the wildlife! Anyway Kate, with your ever-increasing skills I think you, your dad, and your grandpa will soon want to get more land as you continue to grow your farming operation even though you already have a nice family operation as it is today!

    • @KatesAg
      @KatesAg  2 года назад

      Thank you for your kind words and great encouragement!!! I'm not sure we could handle any more land!! LOL

    • @rodask3690
      @rodask3690 2 года назад

      @@KatesAg You are welcome Kate! I think you could handle more land if you became your dad‘s vice president of operations and you hired someone to help you farm additional land. Then, of course Kate, you would have to become a teacher and trainer for the new employee that you would hire. I believe you would be a very good teacher, as your dad has taught you well. :-)

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 2 года назад

      @@KatesAg I think you have some advantages, views and people skills that would make it possible for you to handle more land particularly when you are finished with formal schooling. Technology demands more land to make a living on. You can not make a real living with a John Deere 55 combine today: it is to small and slow. I believe that at some time not too far away these machines will be running robotically. That will mean you need a lot more land! For now however you are using good pre DEF John Deere used equipment that I feel gives you an edge well into the future till the robots take over. A possible strategy would be to run two crews of 3 combines which would double the land you need. (all additional equipment the same kind used to keep that edge) Keep an eye on the progress of robotics. At the point that they are able to run a combine robotically, you will need to make MONSTER investments. Any farm land buying opportunities in the right location to you in the mean time, I feel should be considered. It would be ideal if you could buy the land with cash! I know that is a vary tall ideal to achieve!! I would estimate that over the next forty years you will need at least four times the land you have now! You will likely need a few bumper crops and penny pinching to get there.
