Polyrhythm, so crazy and complex, It is a main characteristic of this tradicional afro music from Colombia and Ecuador. I tried to decipher the time signature and it is so hard, I felt some 3/4 or 6/8 on the drums but also some 4/4 at the marimba going on at the same time. I´m not a trained musician so I was missing a lot, but it feels so good, pure groove. Greetings from Ecuador.
Que emoción escuchar la música tradicional de mi Tierra, saludos desde Esmeraldas Ecuador no dejemos morir nuestro folklore Ecuador y Colombia un solo tricolor
Dios mío que bella es mi Tierra Ecuador! Thank you Tiny Desk for this video and brining my beautiful people on here. It’s reached NYC and my heart is filled with love and joy. Que viva Ecuador! Que viva Colombia! Que viva todos nuestros ancestros!
Woke up at 3am, hard time going back to sleep, checked my favorite go to NPR Tiny Desk Concerts and came across Rio Mira: AMAZING group. The vocals are strong, percussion is insane, I'm dancing at 3am. Esteban Copete on the marimba is killing it, haaaay Esteban!
Arriba Ecuador 🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨... I am so proud to watch an ecuadorian traditonal music band in this radio show where have been bands and musicians like Sting, Natalia Lafourcade, Cafe Tacvba.
Not only Ecuador, also from Colombia, afro people of Esmeraldas y el Valle del Mira where separated by modern national states. But they are the same people. Arriba la herencia africana en América!! Saludos desde Quito.
The music is AMAAAAAZING, and I should point only this fact, but THIS WOMAN. FOR HEAVEN' SAKE!!!!!!!!! I mean, beautiful is not even a quite accurate word. She's beyond, waaaaaay beyond!!!!
Whomever is reading this remember to spread as much LOVE AS POSSIBLE, don't litter, help out the homeless and take care of nature please it's really important we gotta take care of eachother and mother earth. thank you and have a blessed life ❤
Its funny I dont understand what's being said in this performance, but while I was dancing...I got a feeling of loving being alive and God smiling in all the Earth...its peoples and beautiful cultures...a huge family...it just popped in my head listening....you're right. We are to love one another..and our world...the animals...the weak ect. This sends beautiful vibrations of family...humanity...reminding us of our primary role as Gods creation...LOVE. BLESSINGS TO YOU, WHEREVER U ARE C:
People ask me why I'm leaving the States when I retire and beautiful music like this is why. I want to hear people sing beautifully all day long in my golden years.
well to be fair someone can appreciate something but still do bad to something because his job...politicians can make bad judgement...be bribed or even be threatened and or blackmailed...i wouldn't be surprised if some politicians are strong armed into making some bad decisions...
I am magnetize by the vibe and energy they carry it makes me feel like I am in Africa because Africa is everywhere and everything. Thank You MaMa Africa. Ase!
As a viewer who watches playlists often, it is EXTREMELY frustrating that YT removed the autoplay button and I have to catch the end of the video or it will replay videos I have already seen and reset the progress to barely watched. Probably not the place to voice this, but I can't stand it anymore.
What was the rhythmic pattern for the first song? I've played a lot of Latin jazz but wasn't familiar with that one and couldn't figure it out. Where is the down beat supposed to be?
Precioso! Ecuador y Colombia ❤️✨👌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Que hermoso ver a Colombia y Ecuador unidos a través del arte :3
Sí!!!
The rhythm and tempo of this is so fascinating. It's like they're about to miss the note but just catch it in the pocket. I love it.

The Spanish language is soooo beautiful.
Somos pacífico colomboecuatoriano
Only politicians who can appreciate the diversity these Tiny Desk concerts should be elected.
Francis Waters that’s definitely the most important criteria
Please ignore politics and embrace music without mixing the two, please.
@@AficionadoKO - Well said. Mixing politics in with your music is like putting vinegar in your milk shake!
Let's not bring politics into tiny desk.
well to be fair someone can appreciate something but still do bad to something because his job...politicians can make bad judgement...be bribed or even be threatened and or blackmailed...i wouldn't be surprised if some politicians are strong armed into making some bad decisions...

The new GOAT, Esteban Copete, Petronio Álvarez's grandson killing it in the marimba
some African tribes got some really nice dance moves, it would have been cool to see some of it right now 💚
They are from ESMERALDAS - ECUADOR, LATINOAMÉRICA
And from Colombia. You can hear the African influence in the music and instruments. Even her dance moves.

Parabéns ao envolvidos.

So cooooool ♥️ 🇧🇷
THIS is NICE.
REAL nice. 🎶👏🎶👏🎶😊

Thanks NPR, that was great! Get Combo Chimbita in for a session if you can.
Nice concert. Feels autentic. Grounded.
The Mandika play the balafon (marimba) with the same note progressions. If you listen to Malian music or any balafon music, you will hear it.
My shoulders refused to stay still.. A bit awkward for working in an office...

We are everywhere
Ecuador rocks !!!
Love it!
LOVE it

The rhythm was all over the place in the first song. Glad they unapologetically spoke spanish.
LittleLulubee he just can’t keep up w the complexity lol. And it’s not even complex
It's called currulao
listen carefully and find the groove, they're actually quite in time
VICENTE ALVARADO he really just needs to follow the drums.
"It doesn't sound right" X-D

Colombian pacific - Esteban Copete in the Marimba

Quien o que es Tangare? de pronto ya me dio hambre.
🔥
What was the rhythmic pattern for the first song? I've played a lot of Latin jazz but wasn't familiar with that one and couldn't figure it out. Where is the down beat supposed to be?
The "1" is down in West Africa and the Andes.
Also, if you watch the bomba on the right, seems to be playing the downbeat with his left hand.
these rythms are also called Marimba and they are from the south coast of Colombia and north coast of Ecuador
Check out Sergio, right behind Karla singing. He is tapping beats1, 3, 4, and 5 in a six-beat cycle; Tito (stage left) is playing beat 2 and 5.
My guess is like this is "currulao" , It is a folk rhythm from the Pacific coast of Colombia and Ecuador.
Que bien mi compatriota Carla Kanora
