- You have to stop playing your fairway woods like you do your driver. Right now, you have to stop sweeping them and lifting your golf ball into the air with your fairway woods. You have to start using this new method of hitting it like irons. This will make your FAIRWAY WOODS EXTREMELY consistent. If you do not hit down on your fairway woods, that is going to contribute to you fatting the golf ball, topping the golf ball with your fairway woods, and generally lacking distance with your fairway woods! Something I know you can fix using this new method to hit FAIRWAY WOODS EXTREMELY consistently!

Here are 5 simple steps for you to follow, and this is what all good fairway wood players do. This can be done with a 5 wood, 7 wood, and 3 wood off the deck or even on a tee peg. Start lining the middle of the club up with the golf ball, not the bottom groove.
1. Stance width for a fairway wood
2.Shoulder tilt for a fairway wood and how to stand to the golf ball
3.Ball position for a fairway wood
4.Take the tension out of your swing and watch your grip pressure with your fairway woods
5.Concept and drill to hit down.

*Let me help you get your fairway woods performing better. These are key clubs that will help on long par 4’s and par 5’s*
ANOYING WHINY VOICE
The proper ball position solves 99% of issues. For a right-handed golfer, playing the ball center to a little left of center helps you hit down on it, automatically and get it up in the air. Playing the ball off your left heel for a driver helps you to hit up on it, automatically. It's all in the fundamentals. I love this man's explanation and visualization. He's a fantastic teacher!!!

Being able to hit my 3 wood has got me out of a lot of trouble. If I’m short or wide from the tee on par 5s, the 3 wood is my rescue club as it has the distance to get close enough to the green to have a reasonable chance of getting on in reg. When I don’t hit it well, it becomes a huge liability. Now I know what I’ve been doing wrong! Trying to hit it like a driver. Great vid.

Confidence building video. Simple, easy to follow instructions. I've struggled with my 3 wood to the point of giving up on it. It goes back in the bag for Sunday and I'll let you know how i get on!

My 3 wood is EASILY the worst club in my bag. I've never understood how it's supposed to work. Until today! Looking forward to trying all this out on the range this weekend.
3 wood is always what I practice at range. It’s gotten a lot better this year when I put ball I center of stance instead of toward lead foot like my driver.
Great video as I hit irons really well & struggle with all woods , I’ve dropped driver for a strong 3 wood & will now be hitting it like an iron 👍

Alex ... I paused the video and went to the basement net ... bang!!! About 5 balls into the session, started pounding 4W and compressing the golf ball. I'll have to see how this translates into the course when spring opening happens! Thank you, sir.

Most amateur golfers would do well to replace 3 woods with 4 woods and 5 woods. We simply do not possess the swing speed to elevate a traditional 3 wood.
I own both. My 3-wood is great from the tee while I very rarely use it from the deck, just with an exceptionaly friendly lie. Why should I keep my 5-wood in my bag when the distance and precision it provides roughly compare to the 3-wood?
@@grandpagolfsimple answer to keeping a 5 wood… the angle of decent is much steeper than a 3 wood. So if you’re playing second shot into a green, you want the ball to stop, rather than roll out like a 3 wood. I’d say you’re better off keeping a 5 wood than a 3 wood for that reason alone. If you’re an 8 handicap or less, you need a 3 wood, the rest of us, not so much. A 5 and either 7 or 9 would be a wiser decision
Thanks Alex . I use my 5 hybrid because I’m more consistent with it but I can’t get the distances 3 wood can give you also I’m struggling with my 4 hybrid if the fairway it’s so frustrating
I’m going fine I have a 70 mph swing speed keep in mind I’m 13 on the small side and I hit mine perfectly fine with a stiff flex shaft I sound stupid I accidentally bought stiff and I still hit it like 50 fr in the air

Great video. Have been working on getting some more distance with the driver and my 3 wood has suffered with consistency. Too many tops and very thin shots. First 3 tips were things I was working on with my driver that I feel I have wrongly incorporated into the 3 wood. Had some success early on as I was turning it over and getting some draw spin and run that I liked, but not having a consistent strike has been horrible. Looking forward to getting out and correcting those things. Before it just felt like my grip was too strong and causing the issue. Thanks!!

Played a round today. My fairway woods and long irons are the most inconsistent. Hit some nice crispy ones but had quite a few fat shots that lost me yardage. Just realized wow.... I was trying to smoke them like my driver today NO WONDER LOL! Thanks Alex.

Mizuno STZ 220 .. looked at the X but the Z performed as well for me and has adjustable loft sleeve.
What are your thoughts on a little forward shaft lean? I find it helps a bit with fitting down and compression.
