- In this #IndicTalk, Dr. #SubramanianSwamy discusses the need for a national identity for India. He tells us that how India is one of the oldest continuous civilizations in the world. While all other civilizations were wiped out, India still stands. Giving the examples of Persia and Greece, he says that these countries were converted to either Islam or Christianity but India is still about 82% Hindu and that is nothing short of a miracle. But even then, due to some policies followed by leaders of independent India, the youth of today's India is in an identity crisis, wondering who he is.
He says that every great nation in the world has a clear idea about its national identity. Giving the example of the U.S., he says that while anyone can live in the U.S. the defining national identity of the U.S. is White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant Christian. He argues a similar clarity about national identity in the case of India.
He differentiates between nationality and citizenship. He says that anyone, following any religion, can be a citizen of India, be it a Hindu or Muslim. But when it comes to national identity of India it is essentially Hindu. Taking many witty forays into present crisis and historical journey of India, he argues for a strong national identity of India, based on Hindu culture and ethos.

I can only request Dr. Swami to please take care of our history education being provided in various universities and schools. Please take care of this issue and make a law for all Indians to read same history and actual history too (not made up History that We were taught).

@@yuvaskkiller5927 Brother, I'm also a tamilian, but isn't it true that some of our words are exactly same as Sanskrit? I don't believe tamil came from sanskrit, but they are siblings of same mother that is India. In the past, sramanas from tamil used to go around the world with their vast knowledge on sciense, maths, philosophy and what not, even to europe. There is a story of sramana scholar from our state who got killed in Europe. Both tamilians and sanskrit people used to exchange ideas and knowledge, so that doesn't mean sanskrit owns tamil. But we have huge similarities.
Imagine i have a brother and we both exchange our foods, books, money etc. Where is the problem in that? Isn't it wonderful to say that Sanskrit And Tamil Are Our Countries Prides?

@@yuvaskkiller5927The first written record of Sanskrit can be found in Rigveda, a collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns, which was written in somewhere around 2nd millennium B.C. According to studies, Sanskrit forms the base for many European languages.
This is based on German historians work, particularly Max Muller, Konrad Elst and many more.Vedas are essentially the heard ones and were described as “Shruti.” It is only about 5000-7000 years ago that Vedas were penned down for the benefit of mankind. However, Vedas existed several thousands of years ago before being actually written in textual format.Rig Veda is regarded as the oldest religious text in the world. It has a collection of 1028 Vedic hymns in Sanskrit and as much as 10,600 verses in all which are organized into ten books known as mandalas. Undoubtedly, Vedas are the oldest religious texts in the world.
***According to archeological research, Saraswati River dried up and disappeared in North India around 5000 BC. So, considering these findings, Vedas must be at least 7000 years old (5000 BC) when Saraswati River did flow across North India.
We take an excerpt from Rig Veda (Book 3: Hymn 23:4) where Saraswati River is described as actually flowing.
“On man, on Apaya, Agni! On the rivers Drsadvati, Saraswati, shine richly.”****
***It is the oldest book in any Indo-European language and contains the earliest form of all Sanskrit mantras, dating back to 1500 BCE- 1000 BCE. Some scholars date the Rig Veda as early as 12000 BCE - 4000 BCE.****
Dr. B. R Ambedkar recognised this and wanted Sanskrit as India's national language. BJP will make it a reality.

Much to learn from him the Eastern Wisdom, that isn't because he is a Vegetarian or because he was a Professor of ex-Oxford, but because he is very academic in his speech, and certainly he is highly Intellectual person in the Indian Political arena today! He also multi lingual who is capable of speaking in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Chinese, and Tamil language! Therefore "HE IS EXTRAORDINARY" In my view!

Please make Sanskrit compulsory in schools. That way our youth can read our historical books from Indian point of view and become Sanskrit scholars. Sanskrit scholars are well paid in the west, but all these scholars are white.

I would love it when someone says we are a Vedic civilization. The word Hindu although geographical, has been misunderstood as a religion and identity. The essence of Indian culture is Vedic, we are seekers of knowledge. We are one people, We are India, respect, love, and realise who we are.
Agree!!! Hindu was a word given to us by non-natives, just like caste. We are Vedic people. I have stopped using the word "Hindu" for the religion/culture.

Because Hindus don't have organised institution in villages but once we get our temples free from govt control individuals from the region cam take the administration as trusteeship of the diety and we can use the income of the temple to bring up educational institutions, social institution, financial institution

May be it's Swamiji's quest, as a Rajput we have a very rooted identity of self and surrounding and we live by keeping others around us rooted to depths as well. In recent history- Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah belongs kuruba caste. Kanakadasa (1509-1609 AD.) a kuruba became a scholar whose poems are sung and played by all including caste brahmins.

Subramanian Swamy is A TRUE ARYAN. My ideal version of India is known as the United Republics of Aryavarta (or Aryavarta/URA for short and sometimes also known simply as India). The URA is a union of nine republics consisting of the present-day countries of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tibet (because the holy Hindu mountain Mount Kailash is in Tibet), Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan (because a part of the Indus Valley Civilisation was in what is now present-day Afghanistan) and Sri Lanka. The Indian Ocean is the territorial waters of India. Aryavarta is an officially Hindu country. Aryavarta is the world's highest country (because of Mount Everest in Nepal), the world's wettest country (because of the Indian state of Meghalaya) and the world's lowest country (because of Maldives). Also, the official demonym of Aryavarta is Aryan. Even the non-Indo-Europeans in Aryavarta (like the Dravidians, for example) are known as Aryans.

@@Jo-pv4jx I already know that the word 'arya' means 'one who does noble deeds' in Sanskrit, but remember that in ancient times, Northern India was called 'Aryavarta' (which means 'abode of the noble ones' in Sanskrit). I'm just saying that Aryavarta should become the official name of the entire Indian Subcontinent. Also, I use the word 'Aryans' to refer to all Indo-Europeans. However, I think the word 'Aryan' should also be used to refer to anyone of exemplary conduct, regardless of ethnicity, nationality, race, gender, caste, religion, etc. 😎
