You know who are worse than disbelievers in the eyes of God? Hypocrites. God states that in the Quran, and the ones who commit atrocious crimes, murdering innocents with no justification are hypocrites, not Muslims. “Surely the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire-and you will never find for them any helper” (Translation of 4:145) There’s nothing whatsoever that makes submitting to the will of God (the literal definition of Islam) extremist whatsoever.

They brought back Jews to Jerusalem after being exiled by the Byzantines for 500 years. This is the Rashidun Caliphate, which consisted of the Prophet PBUH's companions. Umar Ibn Al Khattab made a treaty called the Treaty of Umar, which guaranteed equal rights for everyone, no matter their religion, as long as they paid Jizyah tax (Muslims paid Zakat tax and had to serve in the army). Just because you have people who did wrong doesn't mean the religion is wrong. People have their own desires and no matter the religion, people are always going to use religion as a means of justifying destruction and control. I mean what was British Imperialism? The Doctrine of Discovery? The Circassian Genocide? Slavery?
