    Lego 42055 Review
Experience the huge Bucket Wheel Excavator!
Enjoy building and operating this massive 2-in-1 Bucket Wheel Excavator, the largest LEGO® Technic set to date! This awesome, meticulously detailed reproduction of a real-life mining excavator comes with a cool dark-blue and yellow color scheme and an array of authentic features and functions, including hand-railed walkways, huge tracks and a detailed cab. Switch on the included Power Functions motor and you can activate the conveyor belts, rotate the massive superstructure and maneuver the colossal machine into position. Then activate the boom to lower the gigantic, digging bucket wheel and convey the mined material to the waiting mine truck. When you feel like another building challenge, rebuild it into a Mobile Aggregate Processing Plant.
Features a LEGO® Power Functions motor for an array of motorised functions, including forward and reverse driving, rotating bucket wheel, moving conveyor belts and rotating superstructure, plus a working bucket wheel boom.
Also features hand-railed walkways, lights, mined-material elements and a rugged mine truck.
Switch on the LEGO® Power Functions motor and maneuver the huge tracked structure into position.
Activate the motorised conveyor belts and bucket wheel.
Move the joystick to rotate the massive superstructure.
Raise and lower the huge bucket wheel boom.
Follow the mined material from the bucket wheel to the moving conveyor belts and all the way to the waiting mine truck!
This LEGO® Technic model is designed to provide an immersive and rewarding building experience.
This set includes over 3,900 pieces, making it the largest LEGO® Technic set to date.
2-in-1 model: rebuilds into a Mobile Aggregate Processing Plant.
This set offers an age-appropriate building experience for ages 11-16.
Bucket Wheel Excavator measures over 16” (41cm) high, 28” (72cm) long and 11” (29cm) wide.
Mobile Aggregate Processing Plant with boom retracted measures over 8” (21cm) high, 34” (88cm) long and 8” (21cm) wide, and over 12” (33cm) high with boom extended.
    Mine Truck measures over 3” (10cm) high, 7” (19cm) long and 3” (10cm) wide.

I bought this built from a seller. I fixed something that needed improvement. I added a rubber band to it with an extra part or two so the flap part would move properly at the end of one of the conveyor belts. I figured out what "dirt" or "rocks" work best for this kit. Use the 1x1 cylinders. Also, the ball parts with an axle hole work well. The lamp post parts the size of mini fig heads also works well with this. It will jam no matter how you "dig", but it's fun. I want to build the "B" model someday, the rock sorter.

I have and built this set. Be sure not to have any of the moving parts interfere with each other. If you only have enough to spend on one, large Lego technic set, I would recommend that you buy the rough terrain crane. It's big, it's red, and it's beautiful. And, it's an awesome addition to any mancave.

What a great set, can't wait to get my hands on it!!! It's big, bad and ugly, fantastic!!! I really like the complex gear trains. I love the brutal industrial look this set has, the complete opposite of 42056. The way it moves so slowly is almost like a giant mechanical dinosaur. I just wish the 2 linear actuators were motorised. The cute little white dump truck and its cargo finishes the set off nicely.

My experiences on sluggishness of this set:
1 The base (pedrail) part is actually quite smooth if you leave enough space between gears.
2 The sluggishness comes from :
The upper conveyor belt.It is too close to the walls and the small bars on the belt can hit the walls quite often, especially at the point where bars go to the bottom.
The bucket wheel. You can see clearly the whole system get stuttered when those black gears in the bucket wheel reach the gaps between two wheel gear pieces, simply because the gap is too large. And it takes some efforts for the motor to overcome that gap. It is difficult to fix this. I managed to barely make the system working constantly by loosing all the black gears in the bucket wheel, too loose I almost need to not fully push in some of the parts to make more room for smoother running gears.
All in all, not the greatest experience I have with LEGO Technics. I bought this mainly because there is a killer deal on costco.ca ($200 CAD) and it is a great source of MOC pieces.

Hey guys, am I the only one who finds the lock for the lower belt (the one which delivers mined material to the dumper) pretty useless? There are 3 positions - locked / N / unlocked. I would expect that one of that position allows dumper to stay on same position while the excavator is turning around. I see no difference in locked and unlocked - in both positions the belt moves together with the whole excavator, i.e. rotates around so the dumper has to move too... I would appreciate your views, thanks.

+Austrian Lego Fan für welches Modell von allen die du je gebaut hast du am längsten gebraucht

    • @AustrianBrickFan
      @AustrianBrickFan  8 лет назад
