I'm from Denmark and I know we pay a lot in taxes, but I couldn't imagine if I or someone in my family got sick and we couldn't pay for medicine or go and have treatments, so that's something I'm thankful for, I just think the dentist should be the same
4 hours out of 6 months goes to mental health training, that's disgraceful.
There is a huge lack of mental health help! Very few halfway houses and if you have no insurance forget getting into an inpatient treatment other than a 3 day and being released with no post plan! Rural areas with high unemployment have almost no choices!
Thank G0d for these unbelievable people . I suffer mental illness. It is not easy for us. To know there is some people out there that care is unimaginable.
It’s sad place where someone can’t get help and money is the reason they can’t. We didn’t ask for these condition to happen to us.

Don’t be sorry for venting, i think it’s true what you said. I’m tired of it too. The law makers and government need to change this, put laws into action and fund these ppl that want and are qualified to help.

if they gave funding to the mental health system then the police wouldn't have to deal with so many cases of mental health.
This is heart breaking and it's even more heartbreaking that there is more help for someone with addictions than there is for mental Illnesses!! It's sad and something needs to change I think it should be the law and mandatory that all officers get training on how to detect and handle mentally ill person and their actions

I think society has required more units to deal with the growing number of persons suffering from mental health crises during the tougher time of the COVID pandemic.
My family is having to go through this with my brother, he has had a good dozen of really bad episodes over the last year. All because of meth and heroin, he does one for the high and one for the low, we've had him OD twice and cops come out and narcan him twice, one time they had to give him two doses. He won't go some where for help as much as we ask cause we're all lying to him from what he is saying and that the microphone in his ear won't stop telling him what we say about him. He thinks we plants a camera in his eye to see everything he does... I can go on. I miss him, he was the hardest worker, 16 hr a day made his way up to area manager in his facility and got fired for closing a loading door they weren't using for the day and the building was below freezing because it was open.
I spent so much time with him before this, now he doesn't think any thing of us. Every now and then he seems normal for a few hours and acts normal but most of the time he's in his part of the house boarded off.
He's clearly crazy, cops tell us they can see it but tell us they can't take him because he isn't willing. EMS tells us cops can take him but they don't.
It's hard for him, and all of us and it kills me knowing that he is in constant fear.
I have a mental illness and it has taken many years to achieve any kind of stability, but I am stable now. Pray. Sorry for your situation.
@@lisaday3181 I'm happy you're making progress, and it sounds like you've made it a long way. It gives me some hope that if he doesn't die from an over dose and he is able to quit that he might come back.

videos like these should be shown to further train police officers. But i have my own mental health demons not trying to use them as a crutch if anything; but for the other people who think its fake you wont know until something happens. I'll be real, i watched my best friend from grade school commit suicide 3 days before my recent birthday...life really messes with you but i'm not going to give up. I started writing music and poetry for the simple fact. Just not being in my head and hanging out or going out for a walk or to skateboard really helps. sorry for ranting but talk to someone ANYONE. YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and all we want to do is talk to someone. That's the best life saver
First things first, how was officer John Bryant (spelling ?) Deemed competent to carry a firearm or stay on the police force after he had to be talked down from killing both his son and himself due to being tired of dealing with his mentally ill son? Call me crazy but something seems a bit off with that situation, I personally wouldn't be able to trust him to be able to do his job without the possibility of him becoming "tired" of dealing with whatever situation set him off and shooting both that person and himself after...

I mean officers are human too. Everybody went crazy at sometimes. Everybody thinks about ending their life to escape. You do it or not is the only thing that matters
As far as officer John Bryant is of concern.....he should not be a cop of any nature. He is dangerous.

When my grand mother went koo koo for cocoa puffs she was committed to Kansas State ( Osowattamie) Hospital. After spending 3 years there, she got better and never had another meltdown.
This is an amazingly touching documentary. Bravo to those who organized this. Hopefully this can help bring about much needed changes!

I think calling the cops on the mentally ill, is the wrong thing to do. Crisis is best and they should be present, before the cops show up. I would love some feedback.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think that unless the person experiencing a crisis has a history of being violent towards others, the police should simply not be involved in dealing with the mentally ill (even if they're CIT trained) because all too often, it brings more drama to the situation than is needed and it can be potentially traumatizing.

I called the police on my child. He was suicidal and ran into a wooded area, and could not be located. Who should I have called?
My experience ended well. He was found, brought home without incident, and released into our custody to be hospitalized. The officers were very compassionate and helpful. I know all do not end as positively.
You're 100% right and every medical worker I know agrees, but then the cops dont get to shoot people and beat them up and look like heroes for abusing mentally ill people.

I know people retire. What if retire police, could they be considered to help with CIT? By given training and help a few hours a week?
Or help a person who does the visit checking on those who need the support of such a service member? because of MH diagnosis.

My heart aches for the Mom desperately trying to get real help for her son. I've been there. I'm still there. My stepdaughter was 3 years old when my husband and I married. She was diagnosed with combination ADD/ADHD and prescribed meds at 8 years old. At 11, she was admitted into an inpatient mental health facility for the first time, unfortunately it wasn't the last. By the time she was 13, she'd had multiple stays at different facilities, multiple diagnoses and been on multiple meds. At 13, she wanted to move in with her Mom. She swore that's what her problem was and that she would do better if she could just live with her Mom. By that point, she was nearly as big as me, becoming increasingly volatile, aggressive, and violent. It was almost a relief when she moved. Unfortunately, things just got worse, she began cutting, running away, became violent with her Mom, stepdad, teachers, other kids, etc. I can't count on my fingers and toes how many times she was admitted into mental health facilities from 13 to 17 years old. Once she turned 17, she began getting arrested instead of sent for evaluations. She's 18 now and has spent most of the last year and a half in jail on numerous assault charges, drug charges and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. In May, after violating her probation for the 3rd time, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
I know that it's not going to help her. I truly don't know what will. I worry about her constantly, pray for her daily. I can't even begin to comprehend how her mind works. It's as if she has no self control at all. I fear that she'll spend her life in and out of prisons and institutions. But I pray for a miracle everyday.
I have Autism AD HD OCD PDA really bad anxiety and depression. I am 66 now and really struggling now.
Congratulations you gave your 8 year old very powerful medication and it probably fried her brain and now she’ll never be the same. Are you proud of yourself?
I know this is an old video but the same issues persist today, if not worse. It should be mandatory that police officers have extensive training in deescalation techniques and mental illness

The last comment about possibility the officer would relapse is not giving people with mental illnesses a chance on leading normal life..
There is always a risk a person will snap mentally for the first time and for a person to relapse as a result of certain events. But that last comment seem more like a stigma of mental illness rather than posing a real concern that the officer would relapse.
I think the chances are not likely. in the beginning of the film they showed a well socially adapted person on meds that is carrying on successful daily routine.

Yes and they also forget that not everybody wants help whether they need it or not. The system also treats us like we can just suddenly fix our problems. If we could fix our problems we wouldn't need psychiatrists and other doctors. And the way suicidal people are treated is horrible, they don't just suddenly get better when people shove them around and treat them roughly. It just makes the situation more aggravated and dangerous for everybody. I'm someone who is promedication and the fact that I can't get medicated enough is disgusting as well. The mental health system forces people to comply with medication use, but I'm someone who does comply and I whinge when I think I need more drugs therapies to help me and I get told to stop whingeing and when I ask people if I should stop complying with my medicines since I have high expectations about needing extra medications. I get told that this isn't a good idea so then I ask why I'm not being heard when I ask for more medication? It just doesn't make any sense. It's like damned if you do and dammed if you don't. I don't get the actual help that I need, I get the help that somebody else presumes that I need. All the system has done for me is made me distrust everybody and now I refuse to socialise with anybody because I think everybody is against me when really, the people who are supposed to be helping me are only concerned with what they have in front of them instead of actually listening to what my need are. It's more of a money making scam than anything if you ask me. The mental health system is so screwed up.

Why don't they try something with mental you know mental health like they do with AAA there's probably eventually success I mean I from what I've heard people don't usually sober up the first time they go through it so AA or na or you know whatever but some kind of group sessions and kissing you end up you know with other people that have the same problems and you know so you might see somebody succeeding and that might fire you up to take your medication because you want to be there too you know they might find you know support for each other and not feel so alone and I don't know I've just always I think you know small group sessions are good for anything you know whether it be a a n a l-anon overeaters gamblers you know whatever obviously that system is successful so why don't they try it for depression and you know other mental health issues makes no sense to me whatsoever

My friends doctor gives her a shot of her medication monthly cause she forgets to take her meds. Lately a nurse has been going to her house to administer the shot

Police just worsen already bad situations. It's a pity nobody can just deal with mental health issues properly from the very start. People forget that not only is mental illness sad for everybody to see, it is worse to the sufferer because they can't escape from it 24 hours a day. Nobody seems to understand that when they are dealing with people who are suffering.

EMS is a part of the Fire Dept, so often times when an ambulance is dispatched they arrive with a fire truck and other fire personnel.
This is why states need more money to report crazy people to the NICS system. Less nuts would have firearms.

These are the “SOCIALISM” topics and types of programs that Republicans, including those “love everybody, be Christ-like” religious Republicans, try voting out of office or out of politics. Though they are fine with the SOCIALISM that benefits them as in MEDICARE and SOCIAL SECURITY. That’s a major reason our country never has and never will have a proper Mental Health force to help deal with people who suffer from these types of medical problems. But keep voting for antisocial (which is grossly exaggerated over what is actually socialism in the US) politicians and you get to keep dealing with this type of problem in your face very likely at some point in your life.

isn't this cherry-picking a little bit, though? Statistically, most people with mental illnesses are NOT violent or otherwise a danger to themselves or others...
Most people with mental illnesses have long periods of stability, but during a crisis such as mania, suicidal depression, psychosis or other acute episodes most will lose insight into their own situations, thus greatly increasing the risk of self harm. In depressive episodes this is often direct actions to hurt themselves, while in manic and psychotic episodes it is more indirect by putting themselves in dangerous situations.
The vast majority of people suffering from mental illness is not a danger to other people, but it is estimated that approximately 1 in 2 people suffering from Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia attempt suicide once or more in their lifetime, with an estimated 1 in 5 people with those conditions dying from suicide.
I understand your point but they are talking about crisis intervention. Most stable people with mental illness are having police contact very often.

@@maddssmithyl yes and it's the police officers who perpetrate the violence most of the time. Whenever I'm told that violence is never the answer, I tell people to shut up immediately because I don't want to hear that one more time until people can actually show me that violence isn't the answer. Until then, it is all a load of hogwash and I'm going to accept that people are going to be violent and that somehow violence is okay. The police are really good examples of violence being a communication option, and then I'm told by other people who are not police that violence is not okay. So I turn it around and say well, it is okay because Police use it every day. The only way to stop me from using violence is to not have the police come to me in the first place because I'm violent with people who are violent with me, and I won't eventually stop using violence if Police use force. I will eventually stop using violence if people hold me down and show me how much they care without being violent themselves. I don't believe in or agree with, police intervention unless the person has gone missing or is holding a knife or gun in their hands, or whatever other weapon. I will change my opinion when Police choose to change how they treat people.

I think the icing on the cake was one that I saw with the mother in the little boy the mother hurwitz harassing two people in a car calling the cops because they parked over the line a little bit and then wouldn't let the two gentlemen leave.

Seroquel is known on the street at baby heroin. It does cause withdrawl systems if taken in large amounts and then suddenly cut off. It dulls a person like no tomorrow though.
no, they are not...though none are truely "bipolar drugs" as you describe them...drugs used to treat the disorder are a combination of various anti-depressants and anti-psychotics, sometimes anti-anxiety drugs are also part of the regimen. All are used in various ways for a number of mental disorders... some are known to be dangerous if taken in excess or mixed inappropriately with other drugs; They need to be taken as prescribed. Others, especially the older anti-psychotics, are known to cause some adverse side effects. But, overall, they are quite effective. NOT taking them will of course result in eventual relapse and a return to overt symptoms.

For those that are Christian, there's Celebrate Recovery. It helps with mental health, along with whatever therapy you're in. I have ptsd, persistent depressive disorder, and adjustment disorder. Thanks to therapy, and Celebrate Recovery, I'm working through my childhood trauma, slowly, but surely.
