You forgot the hardest part, where you have to jump on broken piece of ruins and there is always one dude that fell of the bridge.
For me BfD is the essential D&D/RPG experience. A group of adventures delve into some unknown lair of cultists and slay their god. It really doesnt get more old school RPG than this.
I agree. I don't like what they did later with the Twilight's Hammer and Old Gods, but earlier on they felt like much more of a Conan the Barbarian style mixed with the eldritch horror threat. Very fun in contrast to large groups like the Defias and Scarlet Crusade.

@@beytran70 I think they went too ham on the stuff. The good part about the TH cult is that it was essentially what a cult would be - secretive, in old, decrepit temples and caves, away from civilization, and yet slowly eating it from within. Then they just made them the equivalent of doomsayer maniacs. The appeal of the cult is how sinister and how it penetrates deep even into places of worship of the light, with even Stormwind's bishop being tempted into the vast but all consuming power of the Void. But then they started doing all the flashy stuff and it kind of ruins the whole mystique that they had. Once a cult reveals it's hand it somehow becomes way more boring. TBH I still don't know why there aren't more dungeons like that. That Shrine of the Storm instance was also a pretty cool lovecraft reference, but somehow the Twilight's hammer feels more organic.

The whole "Dnd campaign" is exactly why I grew to like this dungeon over time... even tho I think I only finished it once lol.
That's what I like about really all of the classic dungeons. They feel much more like D&D dungeons than any of the dungeons introduced by WoW expansions.
If you play on a PvP server in Classic you’ll know there’s a completely different reason to be afraid of the Zoram Strand. It’s a killing field for questing 20’s.
At least there won‘t be lvl 60 Rogues xD

That area has lockpicking training chests of a certain level, doesn't it? I think it was for 150 to 200 skill levels, though I might be remembering the exact numbers incorrectly.

thats interesting that at 1:39 when you show the early development map, azshara is listed to go to lvl 70
If you're interested in Season of Discovery, I'd really recommend going into the history of WoW development. Blizzard really overplanned the content for vanilla, you were meant to be able to go through the Dark Portal to Hellfire Peninsula, Karazhan was going to be a vanilla raid, and both Mount Hyjal and the Dragon Isles were planned as zones for example.

First dungeon I ever did. Honestly, among the best in Classic for atmosphere.
Getting to the instance alone was a hurdle because you find Satyr and Naga working together. But then it starts revealing itself as probably the earliest encounter we get with the Twilight Cultists in large numbers, which is probably the second hinting toward the old gods we get (first in Darkshore at the Masters Glaive). Even if they weren't completely fleshed out yet, the carryover to seeing the cultists again in Silithus, and knowing who's in Ahn'Qiraj, really started getting the thoughts flowing about who's in charge of the Blackfathom Deeps.
I liked when the Old gods were their own thing, not just attack dogs for a generic "void." Wnd when thr Voidwalkers were more some generic beasty from the Nether that sometimes the Legion would summon.
That sea giant was dummy thicc. Got me all bricked up shaking that cake around. GYAAAT!

I am surprised you didn't mention or even play the Old God audio related to the dungeon. Even though Blizzard probably forgot it existed and it doesn't lead to anything other than a cool intro to the boss.

I've always REALLY loved BFD ever since Vanilla for the reasons you said. It's a very simple but very flavorful dungeon. Waterlogged Ruins have since become my favorite type of place in Fantasy RPGs and good lord does BFD do exactly that. I hope the SoD Raid is gonna be even more fun gameplay wise, it looks really cool!

BFD was by far the most hilarious dungeon for me, all the way until the end boss everyone was saying "Yo, Akumai will fuck you up dude"
