I have to agree with everybody here please do not use that again until you get a carbon monoxide detector I do not want something to happen to you guys. That thing could leak and you not know about it and it could be a very bad thing.
Mate, please rethink your diesel heater setup. The all in one type are designed to be placed outside and only the heat duct pipe inside. As it stands you have several exhaust joint inside. You would be better removing it from the case and fitting the unit to a turret plate. That way even if there's an exhaust leak it will be outside. I'm just wanting you all to be safe ❤
Man the first video I ever watched from this guy was 11 years ago, I believe it was the USA road trip trailer. Every since then I was hooked! Great to see another video man . Love it!
I would have tried making a shelf for the heater to sit on and pipe the exhaust out the side so there would be better air distribution. They make a through wall exhaust kit for heaters you could try. Carbon monoxide monitor is a must. Solar panels will need to be bolted through the top with stainless bolts marine quality. Seal it up with marine grade caulk. Best for weather endurance.
Quick tip im sure you already know this but if you get splinters like that if you wrap duct tap around the hand sticky side up and press it on the other hand so the sticky pulls out the splinters 😊
You need to soak the wrap in water before you wrap the exhaust in it. Makes it easier to wrap tight and also eliminates the small partikels in your fingers
Unless the solar panels need to be removed, you will need to use something more substantial than the four screw mounts fitted as I don't think they will be enough to hold them to the roof when you're towing the caravan - the amount of air that will get underneath the solar panels will do one of two things, seriously damage the panels wqhen they're puilled off the roof or rip the mounts off the roof with the panels attached, damaging the caravan roof. You also have to factor in that glues do not react well to the cold, often becoming brittle. As much as you don't want to drill holes through the roof section, it is the best solution and the most secure method if you were to drill and put bolts through the roof (using a sealant to ensure no water gets inside through the drilled holes) with a thick double sided tape for the middle sections. The absolute best solution would be to have solar panels that have a metal rim that you can rivet a an L profile tot he roof and then rivet the solar panels to - this is the best way of doing things. In the meantme, I would avoid leaving the panels on the roof whilst driving to avoid damaging either the van or the panels.
I was about to say I don't think they'd drive with them like that, but I'm amazed to hear Louis say he's intending to. Definitely remove panels every time before driving!
You’re going to want a smaller heater. Those diesel heaters run best and cleanest at full power. If the low setting is too much, it’ll soot up and stink you out before too long. Unless you plan on using it often in much colder weather, I’d swap it out. Also, I agree that you must have a CO detector with that thing.
I recommend swapping to a grinding disc on your angle grinder for grinding, rather than a cutting disc. The cutting discs are so thin, they tend to overheat and shatter. Love the vid mate!
I use one of these for my garage but i did not trust having it inside so i made two holes in the wall one for the intake and one for the hot air so the unit is outside taking air from inside and then pumping it back in hot. No worries about fumes or leaking diesel and much quieter in the garage 😊
This is so cool. I love the idea of renovating a '90s Caravan for camping trips. The diesel heater and solar panels are great additions. It's also refreshing to hear someone talk openly about mental health. It's important to seek help when you need it.
Seeing some of the comments, these things do seem to be valid concerns, but seeing how you care for your family, I’m sure you will look into them. I can tell you would never want anything to happen to them. It was cool seeing you work on figuring things out to install the heater!
Honestly I think you'll be fine as long as there are no exhaust leaks. Use exhaust sealing paste and have a CO detector. If it was outside with the heat piped in you would still be indirectly sucking in some fumes in the air.
This episode is a HSE disaster. Improperly installed diesel heater creating a carbon monoxide and fire risk. Improperly installed solar panels creating a danger to other motorists. Breathing in fibre glass particles creating a health risk.
Love you Louis, but i gotta agree with these comments, that heater is so dangerous. There's a local story here in Canada where I live about 3 boys in a tent using a similar style heater. There was an exhaust leak and they all never woke up. Terrible story, would never want that to happen to you or the fam.
Another episode of Jack of All Trades, Master of None where he puts his family in potential danger have it not being for the comments telling him how to properly use stuff 🤦
I notice this too about his videos... He seems quite ill-informed sometimes and when it comes to things like this that can potentially cause injury or death, it can be quite worrying.
I wish he would just quit RUclips and get a normal job like everyone else. Making 20 minute adverts about power banks and such like recently. Come on man, let it go hahaha

Now it makes sense… you are a British guy… I have seen you videos all around the world and for some reason your accent was not so American to my ears .. 😂… sorry my first language is not English .. 👍✌️
Carbon monoxide detector with smoke detector it's a must if you have diesel heater... its a silent death without those
Please for the love of God, don't use this again without a Carbon Monoxide Monitor inside.
My thoughts exactly!
he's idiotic and won't listen. The guys breathing in fiberglass lol

Came to say the same thing! Duct tape rubbed real good then ripped off gets 'em out!
You need to soak the wrap in water before you wrap the exhaust in it. Makes it easier to wrap tight and also eliminates the small partikels in your fingers
Realizes he has splinters on his hands, claps the hands. :-)
Louis is the type of guy to make a bed with fiberglass insulation and climb in naked. 😂
If you are happy and know…
Please get a Carbon Monoxide/ Smoke Detector before using the dorsal heater again!

They should just glue the whole panel.. that's what van people do. There are some really strong glues.
@@peirsd if you glue these flat solar panels down, they get no airflow underneath, overheat and fail. Learned that the hard way
You can run the diesel heater on vegetable oil if you want to be green about it.

Pull that apart, and mount the heater on a turret trough the floor. Fit a valve for pulling air either outside or inside when needed.

Good work on the caravan so far! I enjoy watching your projects and am looking forward to more of this re-build.

Nice one. Just watched your couples channel and thought can’t wait to see the reno on the campervan. Exciting 👏

This is the most dangerous type of diesel heater for the caravan
Remove the housing and bolt in directly to the floor and buy a mounting plate
The exhaust coming out the heater itself will be very hot too, no? May be worth having heat protection actually under the heater as a whole too.
Really enjoying this Eriba vlog. Thanks Louis.
Definitely look into Herschel infrared heating panels, they're great. Low energy consumption
You are such an inspiration, amazing content and amazing father / hubby ♥️
My suggestion is to wrap it only round the hole. I believe that if you wrap it from the heater to the hole it can cause a heater to "overheat".
looking forward to this series cannot wait to see what you do with the caravan

I've heard that you can take the heat "protection tejp" in hot water and it will form better and gett smooth.
Love the videos
Don't drive with the solar panels on. You can can easily remove them with those butterfly clips. It'd be much safer.
The diesel heater installation is unsafe - don’t use it.
I would run a small generator inside the caravan to power it. Just give everyone an oxygen mask.

The disk is for cutting do not grind with it.Will break easily.
maybe by the cooktop( stove) as already a vent there n might be able to tap into that n not drill a hole for exhaust can use existing exhaust outlet
mmm should not be doing that in your garage with all that stuff in it plus doing it near cushions. big fire risk. hot works and all that.
Man, i remember when you ate a roadkill fox😂
u could put fan to circulate the warm air
One day you're going to arrive at your destination and the solar panels won't be there 😂
*sings* Live the adventure!
It looks unsafe to me. ,😮 maybe look into a better set up. Preferably outside with heat blowing in.
Please use a carbon monoxide detector (or two of them!) and make sure they are always charged with fresh batteries.
Bro iv not watched Louis in years ! Remember the roadkill days 😂
Cool vid, you want some exhaust sealing paste there.
Do you have a link for the diesel heater please? 😊
Not if you're going to install it like this dipshit has!
Anyone watching from Brazil?
odd that battery is inside most are outside on trailer hitch
Exhaust joint inside is a complete no no, these units are not designed to be fitted inside a vehicle 😮
You need a CM detector. Asking for trouble if you don't have one.
when will you guys be heading back to costa rica
use tape n pull them out

Get a carbon monoxide detector Louis please before you use that in there, they're not designed for that use
Anyone watching in Polska?!
It is best to get air for the heater from the outside, don't trust chatgpt blindly.
