How exciting! My dad visited Rio 3 times when he was alive...he loved it! I, too, want to travel to Salvador. That's for me! Watching samba dances are what i love (I can't do it, though). LOL 🥰 Brazilians are such warm and lovely people!

I really wish they gave folders explaining the show synopsis and what each thing represents. because its soooo rich of meaning, of resistance, cultural messages and curiosities about our culture. this year (2023) in particular was soooo full of enriching insights about our black religions and roots. I watch it EVERY YEAR from tv with my family since I was a little girl

Hi guys! I love samba, i love the parade. It is our cultural, its our opera show! Some of them are telling amazing history . My school this year we talked about a possibility that our natives went to europe instead of them coming here. 😍 they are always talking about african routes , african religion, its amazing. I love and makes me really proud to be brazilian 😍. Its the party of the people!! Tomorrow im there to watch the 6th best schools of this year!🥰 it usually finishes at 5am and we run after the last one!

@@TheYarbros it is. The most expensive days are sunday and monday thought. And the cheapest are on Friday and saturday (before carnaval that is on tuesday). Because the schools on these days are not as big and famous (like mine). Its like soccer. The "first" and second league.😘hope you guys have a Nice time.

Thank you for sharing brazilian culture in such a fun and respectful way. Carnival is one the biggest celebration for us. Some people get a culture shock when they visit here, especially during this time of the year because it's all a big party and we feel very free to express ourselves. Compared to other cultures, we are more liberal and that can be a bit shocking/scary for some people. Nothing wrong with that. it's just who we are! i'm glad to see you guys enjoying the festival. Yeah! I feel like foreigners sometimes have a tendency to either be shocked or scared by the more liberal aspect of how brazilians express ourselves sometimes, or enjoy it but in a very objectifying way, as if brazilian women were pieces of meat sexually available for any and everyone. It’s just our culture and way of expressing ourselves, and it felt like you understood and respected that.
On a different note, as a brazilian i have always thought it was incredibly hypocritical how europeans and usamericans often feel superior to more conservative cultures (like middle eastern ones) for being “more sexually liberated” and then go around and act like brazilians are savages or something when they realize we are more sexually liberal than them in a few aspects 😂 really goes to show how it’s just colonialism in the end

Being in the Somberdome is a great experience. You really do feel like you’re experiencing a culture event that was totally not made for you as an American, but is still so relatable. And watching those parades all night til the sun comes up is special.

Very nice video! I’d say Rio’s carnival is more exuberant with all the fancy costumes, the big parade etc. Salvador is raw. You go and mix with people, you sweat and jump and dance and loose yourself. It’s wild. Love it all :)

I've worked as a concept designer in Rio and we always say that samba schools have the best concept artists/stylists in the world, they create literal gems with simple materials. There is a whole economy based on carnaval, it's many people's main source of income :)

Also, guys, as a Brazilian be careful with waving your phones and cameras around in a crowd specially in the blocos. A lot of people buy these pouches that you wear under your shorts and put your belongings like phone, money and documents in it instead of the outside pocket to avoid pickpocketing. It's called "doleira" in Portuguese in case you want to find them there.
