    Hey Craig appreciate all the info. Need your help…. I have a Mac Pro 2018 15” which is running just fine but eventually will upgrade to newer one. Anyway having trouble on final decision for monitor: dell ultrasharp 4K 32” or 34” or Alienware oled 34” I usually run like my training app on one side and another maybe google or another website. Sometimes throw a movie on and haven’t even touched gaming. But gaming isn’t out of the question but just not priority. Want good color pop and quality and just smooth screen coexistence. Thanks for your help. I’ll throw Samsung g8 in mix too if you think its legit

      The Dells are pretty good but I have not tested the 34" OLED Alienware so I can't comment on that. I just did a video on a 32 inch BenQ PD3225U which is pretty nice but not sure if that is what you are looking for. You can check out that video on my channel from yesterday. With the 4K screens it's kind of subjective how scaling affects people etc. and that is why it's hard to tell people exactly what monitor to buy but I always say buy one and test it for a week and then return it if not what you want.

    Unfortunately, the ideal monitor for a MacBook does not currently exist. The Apple Studio Display would be an ideal monitor, but 60Hz ruins everything if you want to use it with a MacBook, which has 120Hz. This is a huge difference in refresh rate. And this is very noticeable when scrolling and cursor movement.

    • @craigneidel
      @craigneidel  Месяц назад +4

      I'm not that sensitive to refresh rates so it really doesn't bother me at all. But I understand that some people will only get a 120 Hz monitor and that's fine.

    • @bakeraus
      @bakeraus Месяц назад

      I have to agree, I have been on the search for weeks and you honestly can't get it all atm. Apple Studio is definitely the best option currently. I thought monitors would be in a much better spot now but they are more confusing that ever. My monitor is coming up to 10 years old so I need to get something more colour accurate for Graphic Design work.

    • @vladyslavaverin
      @vladyslavaverin Месяц назад +1

      @@bakeraus For graphic design, this will definitely be the best option if refresh rate is not important to you. The only reason I don't buy this is because it's 60Hz because I'm used to the MacBook's 120 Hz screen. And I hope that someday at least Dell will release a monitor with 120 Hz, because Apple will be doing this for a long time.

    • @bakeraus
      @bakeraus Месяц назад

      @@vladyslavaverin I thought by now I could get a decent gaming monitor 144hz and a productivity monitor but with features like USB-C 65-95w but it still doesn't exist. I feel I might have to get two different monitors one for gaming and the other for design. We are on the cusp of change with more OLED coming into the market.
      What is your current monitor?

    • @vladyslavaverin
      @vladyslavaverin Месяц назад

      @@bakeraus For gaming it's really better to have a separate monitor. OLED is an amazing technology. Only I heard that OLED monitors are bad for work because the fonts on them are not so smooth. I would buy an OLED 2K monitor for gaming, but for work something else.
      Now I don't use an external monitor, only a MacBook. A few months ago I bought a Dell U2723QE to work in conjunction with my MacBook 120Hz. It was impossible to look at the MacBook's 120Hz screen and the 60Hz monitor at the same time (and I didn't want to switch the laptop to 60Hz in settings). So I returned the monitor to the store. I was also unhappy with the color scheme. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to make it identical or at least similar to the one on the MacBook.

The Dell monitor is very nice, however the one key feature that I do miss about an Apple monitor (any Apple monitor) is inability to quickly change brightness when needed. I’m looking at a 27’ or 32’ display for my mac studio thats on order. I do some video editing for youtube videos etc… Im nervous about the scaling issues many have spoken about. Like in one resolution the the text is too small and the next one up its too big and then you lose all the screen real estate. Can anyone advise a solid choice thats not the high end of the price spectrum? Also the hz? I’ve been advised to go at least 120hz…
    I’m coming from a 27inch 5k imac… thanks.

    • @craigneidel
      @craigneidel  Месяц назад

      I would just get the Studio Display if you want it to be just like the 5K iMac. But if you are open to changes like a matte screen etc. the BenQ 32" PD3225U (I just did a video on it so check out my channel) is pretty good. The 4K scaling is subjective and on that monitor it's good for me but you might want to test it first.

    The Philips monitor I purchased was a
    PHILIPS Creator Series 27E2F7901 27" 4K UHD IPS. The Quickstart instructions that came with it said not to lower the screen any further than 5° down or it may fall off I guess they don’t have too much confidence in this product themselves. Much happier with the ASUS PA278CV that cost only $249 and works great with much better color and not all washed out 1440 resolution 2K display is perfect for the MacBook. As Mr. Ronco used to say on his television commercial set it and forget it.

The problem I am having is that the Mac monitor is so small to contain all the info. I tried it on a tv panel and once I scaled up the graphics it froze.

    One thing you may want to include, which is very important all of Amazon reviews, including the Phillips, 27 inch with over 4,000 reviews are a combination of more than one monitor. For instance, the 27 inch which cost $399 is combined with the $239 32 inch curved in the reviews. i’m just guessing but I think the $399. 27 inch Phillips monitor that first appeared August 3, 2023 probably has fewer then 1000 actual reviews. I still purchased it though, because of the four year warranty and the compatibility with the MacBook Air M 1. should be arriving tomorrow. I’ll do a follow up keeping my fingers crossed.🤞🖥️

    If you want to get into the super pro level kit then Eizo and NEC are where it's at. They're reference monitor level accurate (as in they're literally reference monitors). Not for the budget minded, but if you need absolute colour accurate precision they're pretty much as good as it gets.

    Well, I thought I do a follow up on that Philips monitor. It turned out to be a complete piece of junk. It arrived with no USB-C to USB-C cable, and the Quickstart instructions said not to angle any more than 5° down, or the screen might fall. The picture never looked quite right on any resolution and most importantly, the freaking brightness was hopping up and down every time I changed screens or opened an app. After about an hours worth of use, I put it back in the box and sent it on his way back to its home on the shelf at Amazon.
    👺🖥️
    I then purchased,an ASUS 27 inch PA278CV which came with a three-year warranty for $249. works great with the MacBook M1 air right out of the box. 1440 resolution is perfect, calibrated color is excellent spot on proper USB-C to USB-C cable was included. Easy hook up charges my MacBook nicely with 65 W of power. I would strongly suggest skip the 4K and go 1440 if you have a MacBook and use the extra $200 in savings for a decent 2 terabyte SSD external drive.

    27'' 4k monitor is a bad choice due to scaling 1.5

    24” 4K
    27” 5k
    32” 6k
    Those should be the only options for proper Mac scaling

      I have stated this more then 100 times. Yes, but that is not the reality and most people are using 4K at 27" or even 32" and are fine with it. We all know by know about scaling.

      @@craigneidel some folks are fine with out it, specially since 5k monitors cost so much. I m a programmer. I stare at text all day. The scaling matters to guys like me but that doesn’t mean your video isn’t great content. It was a really good video and thanks for all the research. I m sure that wasn’t fun lol

      Thanks and I I'm glad you watched the video. I appreciate that for sure. I just have heard about scaling so many times and it's true but most of the time not an issue. I just did a review of the PD3225U which is 4K at 32" and it does the best job at scaling that any 4K has done at least in my eyes. The issue is that we have too little choices when it comes to 5K but the studio display will have the sharpest text for sure if that is the higher priority. But at $1,600 most just can't afford it. It should really be around $899 and I think that would be a good deal. Anyhow thanks again for the comment and for watching. I didn't want you to think I was calling you out for your comment.

    The best monitor for Mac. All those monitors work just as well on the PC.

    I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Philips product. They're a classic name in consumer electronics. Invented the audio cassette and co-invented the audio CD and the DVD with Sony. You make it sound like they're some weirdo brand.

      No I didn't do that at all. You just don't see too many monitors in the USA for sale by them. But definitely didn't make them sound like a weirdo. I think you just thought that.
