    I met Crispin Glover after a screening of one of his movies... I brought my VHS copy of Back to the Future for him to sign. I thought he was going to be mad, but he signed it and was polite and thanked me for coming to his film.

    Here's a cool piece of trivia. During the filming of Part III, which saw an appearance by awesome rock band ZZ Top, a scene that included the aforementioned band encountered a delay because a piece of equipment malfunctioned or otherwise wasn't working properly. So, to kill time while it was getting repaired, the band took requests and played. After quite a while of this, someone came up to Zemeckis and asked if the equipment would be fixed soon. He replied, "It got fixed nearly an hour ago. I just didn't want to stop the party." Awesome.

    See I always thought of the ending as Marty's parents were much happier with themselves, which in turn inspired them to do better career-wise (and led to having more money as a side effect).

    • @char1ie965
      @char1ie965 4 года назад +9

      I think you get that feeling solely because of Crispin Glover shaping the ending

    • @killwalker
      @killwalker 4 года назад +20

      Similarly, George had the confidence to write his Sci Fi novel..and likely other literary projects, leading to a comfortable lifestyle.
      "Standing up to bullies will give you confidence." Thats what I got from it.
      Often leading to confidence that leads to some level of success in life.
      Also Marty (The Protagonist) gets what he wanted through divinity or destiny or however you want to look at it. Getting the 4x4 wasnt a greed based reward. Marty saved the lives of his family in different ways. Changed biff into a more respectful, more humble person. Saved Doc Browns life. Inspired Chuck Berry to completely rip off an unknown artist's work, note for note..lol. Aside from the Chuck Berry thing, which was really Marvin's doing, Marty was being Heroic and brave. His actions helped his parents become less about image, more about family (Lorraine), and Self Confidence, Self Respect (George) leading to a less dysfunctional family. (Sister is a bit of a slut, and miserable. uncle in Jail. George a pushover. Mom Depressed alcoholic).
      So I disagree with Crispin Glover's assessment of the end of the movie.
      I think he just didnt want to see a positive message, and thought his fame(haha) would allow him some control of the ending. He didnt get it, and acted like a brat afterwards. Even David Letterman couldnt stand him. And he liked almost everyone (not Jauquin though lol)

I was surprised that he thought that greed was ever what the ending meant. Crispin Glover's account of the contract dispute is wildly inaccurate. Zemeckis, Spielberg, and Gale have all given detailed explanations of what happened. Basically, Glover wanted to be paid more and have more lines in the sequel. He also had his own ideas for how his character should have developed. Glover wanted his character to become a cool, hip guy.
    Glover and his agent knew B2TF was a huge hit and thought they could negotiate their way into getting what they wanted, but from the point of view of the directors and producers, their demands were just too high. As time went on, and B2TF 2 began shooting without Glover having signed a contract, Glover and his agent continued to play hard ball. Eventually shooting began, and Glover still hadn't been signed to a deal. Approximately 2 weeks into filming, Glover and his agent realized the studio wasn't going to give in to their demands and suddenly they went crawling on their hands and knees... but by that point they had already soured their relationship with the producers. Zemeckis and Gale had already re-written the script, accounting for Glover's absence. The whole thing became a huge headache for the cast/crew and a failed power-play for Glover. His career never recovered.

      I’ve heard Gale give different accounts. Not so with Glover. Then they did steal his face and mannerisms for part II rather than completely recast like with Marty’s girlfriend, so it turned out they did need him and he got paid by suing their pants off, so he ended up on top.

    • @letsgo214
      @letsgo214 Год назад +1

      I find this a one sided version of events. I honestly loved Glover’s performance and let’s be honest, the studio had more than enough money to pay an actor. As I grow older I can see how the bigger corporate industry is more about making money and not doing the people and actors right, but you have one side of the story.

    In my opinion, the actor who makes this film as great as it is, isn't Chris Lloyd or Michael J Fox... its Crispin Glover! Marty and Doc Brown could have been played by a bunch of other people, all of whom would have been good in those parts, but Crispin's unique acting style and quirky personality is inseparable from the character of George McFly. I think the rest of his career suffered because he was so good in the role.

    The studios only showed interest when Robert Zemeckis made "Romancing The Stone" and it was successful at the box office. This convinced Universal that Zemeckis could direct a successful film, and took on BTTF.

      I still would like to have money, lots of it. Not worrying about finances would be good.
      But I have learnt that there are more important things, like health and family.
      I lose a brother to cancer, and not all the money in the world could have stopped his passing.
      The next year, my father died of a heart attack. He ran a small business, and was working too hard, and had the heart attack as he was planning retirement.
      My point is, money isn't as enjoyable if you don't have your health, and having that and a loving family is worth more than all the money in the world, and if I had the choice of having all the money in the world, or having my brother and father back, alive and well, I would choose the latter.

    I never saw the end of part 1 as that money makes one happy, but that ONE tiny little change in the past can screw up the future as we know it. Just one punch into Biffs face made George more confident and that made him more successful while Biff turned out a bit more humble

      Me too:) I even feel like Biff is always pushing George around because he's trying to get him to fight back...that would've been neat if it was the case, then at the end they're friends.

    It wasn't Robert Zemeckis who visited his parents and got the inspiration from viewing his father's high-school yearbook, it was Writer/Producer Bob Gale.

      Yeah, the excellent 1976 Brian De Palma film, please, not that useless remake that turns Carrie into a girl that looks like the captain of the cheerleading-squad, its only attraction being Julianne Moore in one of the side-roles. Yeah, forget that one hehehehehehe Do the show on the good one, this one: ruclips.net/video/LKUYRM3Iezc/видео.html

    Between 22nd December 2010 to 21st July 2011, Telltale Games brought out Back To The Future: The Game for PC/ Os x, PS3/4, Wii and Xbox 360/One. The story was about Doc Brown as a young man, that Marty had to convince to go into science, so the delorean time macine can be built.

    Love the franchise and the videos, but I thought it was Bob Gale that was looking through his dad Mark's yearbook and seeing he was class President and wondering if he would be friends with his dad at that time as the reason for the movie idea as you had mentioned in a related video.

    Biff becoming an auto detailer makes perfect sense. He hated having to spend so much money on having his car repaired that he never wanted to have to do it again, so he took to doing it himself and eventually made a career out of it.

      The repair guy said he wouldn’t fix his car again (right before old Biff gives him the almanac), the manure stunk up his whole shop.
