Really love the craftsmanship. It's very nice that you teach your daughter as well.
Thank you. I try to avoid my two daughters being part of "kids these days ..." Take care!
Dude, nice job! I'm an engineer, licensed builder, and home inspector, and I always expect videos like this to be full of cringe-worthy hacks. But this is really solid work.
Thank you for the very nice comment!
This type of work is so much fun.. wish I were building one right now lol
Thanks for this video. The picture frame detail helped me out a lot.
Your welcome. Good luck with your project!
Nice video, man. Having built quite a few decks myself, I found myself learning a ton of tricks and techniques from you. Thanks!
Thanks for the nice comment

Thanks for video! I am about to build a deck for the first time with no previous experience! I m gonna use your video as a guide! I like the trick where you attached a small piece of wood on top of a joist so it can rest on the far ledger while you nailed down the other end.
Decks.com has good information on sizing the framing.
www.decks.com/how-to/41/deck-joist-sizing-and-spacing
Good luck with the project!
thanks LR&R. is there a way to level a cement block on uneven cement floor without repaving it? i was thinking building on a form a round the cement block and even it with crush limestone and gravel before put the cement block on top . then attach 4x4 on top of that block as footing for part of my deck...
@@datnwin sorry, I don't have much experience with block
Awesome great job and the way you explained everything
Thanks for the nice comment!
I have just replaced our deck at home and although we have a good result the work was not as efficient as yours, excellent.
Thank you. Hope you enjoy your new deck this summer
Dayum! That deck is bomb proof!
You had the best helper in whole world🥰.
Yes, she is a joy to have around, and a hard worker too
Nice work. I like how you notched the supporting posts. A quality build.
Thanks for the nice comment
Nice clean professional build, well done!!!!
Thank you! Take care
Great job👍 it helps to have the right tools!
Thank you. Can never have too many tools.
Very nice video, well paced and explained.
Thank you!!
Really Nice work.
Thank you!
Hey man, it's great! Now I'm a follower! I'm going to make a deck and I really enjoyed your work.
Thank you. Good luck with your deck!
Man you have the best tools for the job, but you can never have too many tools.
No, never too many tools
Simply brilliant
Thank you for the nice comment!
Nice job and you’ve got some pretty cool tools sir
Thank you!
Great video. Professional job!
Thank you!
Looks pretty good ,you do nice work, love the pergola
Thanks!
Great job I’m working for 2 week renovation of deck and I have great idea wach you’re videos I like
Thanks! Good luck with your project
Exceptionally outstanding
Thank you!!
It's awesome great job buddy
Thank you for the nice comment!
Nice job. I build a lot of decks. I like to set the ledger, set joists at either end, then attach a single ply of the beam to those joists. Then, I temporarily brace everything into a level position with concrete pavers (temporary foundation), 2x4, and screws. I hang my posts under the beam with clamps and Simpson caps and fill the hoop with concrete. You can get everything up real quick this way.
That's an interesting way of doing a deck. Thanks for the idea
This is what I was thinking of doing.
Sir your a trooper and great solo job..
Man that was some nice work...nice deck....good video
Thank you sir x2!
awesome job :D like the auger conversion :D
Thank you
Good job sir 🤝
Thank you!
Beautiful job
Thank you!

That’s a serious project 💪 great work
Thank you!!

Grass are going to grow taller under the deck
4 years later, no customer complaints
I’ve got a spade and an electric drill mate. But that’s for the ideas. 😂
You can do it, just might take a little longer 😀
Nice job man...you make it look easy..cheer
Thanks! The magic of editing helps :)
Congrats nice job!!
You done a great job
Thank you!!
Thank you good for you teaching daughter some skills
Absolutely, she is fun to hang out with
Way better than what I would’ve done! 😉
Maybe I just edited out all my mistakes :) take care!
I love people moving around in time-lapse construction videos - makes my inner child happy :O)
T
he 4x4 supports are deep into the concrete and in contact with the ground, there is a high chance that the wood deteriorates with time.
Maybe in your area, around here the posts last long after the deck surface is gone
Good job
Thank you!
Good job and narrating.
Thank you for the nice comment
you made it look easy....
Magic of editing. It was about a 3 week job. But thanks!
Wow that looks amazing
Thank you!
Very nice job 👍👍👍
Thank you
Awesome video. If can make them longer and explain and show more.
Thanks for the feedback
That looked great, I think face fixing looks better too. I noticed they’ve now come up with a bitumen tape to lay down on the joists, but as you mentioned, the old ones looked just fine so I’m not sure if it’s worth it?
Maybe that tape is needed in Seattle, I can't see it in Texas
Beautiful job!!
thanks!!
Nice job and great explanations. Thanks for sharing. Can you explain why posts sunk in the ground and not just placed or attached to the footing. It seems it would be just as easy and easier for down the road when the posts eventually rot out as they would be much easier to replace when they rot out.
I've never seem ground contact rated posts rot out.
Nice work.
Thank you!
Thats a good job I liked it a lot I need one in my house how much h u charge
Beton je zakon , izlijes i služi 100 godina ni bomba mu nista ne moze , ne gori .Tornado mu nista ne moze.
Da, beton je jak

Could you also put a complete covered roof instead of the pergola style? I am wanting to do something like this but do freestanding deck and not attach deck to the house but want a roof over it like this. Thought about pouring concrete patio then build roof but like the look of a deck. I would assume with footing the roof is sturdy enough .
You could put a roof over it but you'd have to start thinking more about wind load and bracing
Very nice..... good work
Thank you sir!
Beautiful job ...Wood on Concrete ??? not anymore its others solutions x that
Impressionante. Parabéns e obrigado
Great video. Any chance you have more pictures of the final product? Very nice project - exactly what I'm looking to do...
Sorry, it's at a customer's house so I don't have anymore pictures
Nice job $
$7- $14k he did alot of cement work.
Thank you!
Beautiful !!
Thank you!
Nice job.. got some decent tools
Are you supposed to leave a 3/5mm expansion gap between deck boards.
I used a carpenters pencil as spacer between the deck boards. That's about 6 mm
Damn good work, I don't even want to know the cost, and what you charged. Seems like a waste of money to me, but was fun watching it.
Thank you. It was expensive!
outstanding work
Thank you! Have a great day.
Nice wood work man. 👍
Muy bueno!!
Gracias senor!
GOOD JOB!!
Thank you!
Interesting deck building method. Nice work and like the tools you use. That table saw is nice isn’t it?
Yes, its a nice portable table saw
Nice work
Thank you Rudy!
Nice work!
Thanka!
Good job.....to the point 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thanks! 🇨🇱🇬🇧
Very good 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
Good job 👍
Thanks! Take care.
Where did you get those stakes for your string line? Or what are they called? Looks much more convenient then cutting and pounding 2x4 batter board into the ground
I got these many years ago. I do not remember them being this expensive

@@LewisRenovation thank you sir
Amazing!!! Congratulations!!!👏👏👏🇧🇷
Obrigado! 🇨🇱
This would be a 12' x 25' wondering what would the average price be just for the labor? Bad ass looking Deck. 👍🏻
I charged somewhere around $8k for labor.
Thank you!
Nice job 👍
Piękna robota wspaniały taras
Dziękuję za miły komentarz
Great see kid learning some
Thanks for the comment. I agree, kids should learn some skills
36" deep holes for the pole foundation? Are you building a deck or a 2-story house?
Our blackland clay is great for growing corn, not do good stability
Looks great man. How did you space the deck boards? Did you use a spacer In between each board? Thanks
I used carpenters pencils because I had a bunch on hand
How did you mount the poles for the pergola? Are they just bolted or cemented?
Simpson post brackets bolted to the concrete
Hey man can you list the tools you used please and thanks.
Looks good.
Thank you
excellent video, good job. I have a question: how to put the 1x6 on a curved deck?
are you talking about curving the 1 x 6 or running straight on a curved deck?
Vvery nice good work
Thank you sir!
Exelente job bro
Thank you! Take care
That looks awesome brother. Great job. How much did you charge for that?
It was in the mid teens. I don't remember the exact number. Thanks for the comment
Is that 1x4 wood you are using for the floor?
1.25 inch x 5.5 inch cedar
Skills with the skidster man
Thank you!
Hope you left an access point for that possum!
I think he's too scared to come back. Probably off playing opossum.
Was just wondering why you didnt start the decking from the outside in? Have the cut board against the house? Also I saw someone comment about flashing, did you flash the house to the ledger? I'm definitely not a carpenter, was just wondering why if you didn't...good job on the deck though looks great and that's all that matters!!!
Honestly, I started laying the decking and on the way home the first day I thought "oh $%&@ I started on the wrong side." I was ready to rip it out but the next day I measured and determined I was within a 1/4 inch of a full board. So I took the 1/4 inch off on a board that was visually broken by pergola posts.
The ledger is attached to a concrete slab below all siding, no flashing required.
@@LewisRenovation lol good call on location of cut board! Just a quick question though, wouldn't the flashing be meant for the ledger board? To stop water from getting between it and the concrete and sitting there? Like I said I'm by no means a carpenter just curious, I'm about to rebuild my deck and like to know how people go about it
The ledger is treated pine, a little water is not going to hurt it. Definately need flashing if attaching a ledger to the house framing, like up north with basements or a second story deck.
Kazper413 Can you explain for a non-professional (me) what you mean by building from the outside in versus inside out?
@@JT_70 you would usually lay your decking from the railing side in to the house making it so if you had to cut a board in half it would be closest to the house not out in the middle or end of the deck. Less of an eye catcher if its against the house instead of at the end of the deck.
Great job..
Thanks!
How did you attach the pergola posts? Do they sit on ground? Would it be better to just have long posts go into the ground and those double as pergola posts?
Hello, I have another video on the pergola post bases. Please take a look. Since these posts are not treated but are cedar, I would not want to put them in the ground.
Really nice work! What did you use to fasten the pergola posts? Are they sitting on pavers?
I poured concrete footings 3' deep and bolted a bracket to the footings to attach the posts.
Lewis Renovation & Repair and then the posts were bolted to the 2x?
@@jasonbranton4530 yes, but not really required
thanks for showing beautiful video. nice work.I have really enjoyed watching it.guitar cover song. What do you think about this.Thank you for being friends with music.i
Sorry, just saw the comment. RUclips comment management is not the best. I think music is an important part of video and life. Take care!
How long did the entire project take
About 2 1/2 weeks
One more amazing work, all that we need is good skills, someone to help and good tools. Are those wood water proof coated?
Thank you for the nice comment.
The wood is western red cedar which is naturally rot resistant.

Hi I want to build similar to my house
Does it not need weed membrane cover?
I don't think it's a requirement to have a weed barrier, but it doesn't hurt to have one
esta vonito muy profecional
Muchas gracias!!
