With regards to power in bathrooms there's usually a "shaver socket" (2 pin) that can be used by electric razors and electric toothbrushes, it has restrictions on how many Watts/Amps it can put out compare to normal socket, so safer to use in bathroom. (usually found up around the light above sink etc.)

  • @globetwig4401
    @globetwig4401 9 месяцев назад +2

Bathrooms usually have a 2-pin electric shaver socket on a strip light over the basin. These have a 110v output and will charge electric toothbrushes fine.

  • @Joseph13163

The electric toothbrushes are rechargeable normally in ireland so you can bring in your toothbrush to the bathroom if its on full charge.

The Internet speed one is bit funny, I live in Dublin, just ran a speedtest and got 870Mb/s down vs. 50Mb/s up (ethernet to cable modem) on my home WiFi I got 560Mbs down vs. 49Mb/s up -- that's with 2021 Macbook,
on 4G/5G I got 26.9Mb/s up vs. 5.3Mb/s -- and I'm probably in a sub-optimal spot to test mobile coverage. What I would say is your mileage would vary on what provider you get. Also it sounds like hotels she stayed in need to upgrade their connectivity.

I'm Irish and also never heard of sharing a taxi with a stranger. We do have Uber here but ordering an Uber just gets you a licensed taxi. An ordinary person's insurance would not cover them to take strangers for payment. No idea where she was trying to access the Internet, the problem may have been her phone, rather than the wifi. The lateness thing is nonsense, especially in a work situation. Baked beans with breakfast is an English thing. Don't use American baked beans if you are trying them, go and find British Heinz beans and proper bread without added sugar. The tomato sauce on the beans melting the butter tastes lovely.

@@Average_Middle_Aged_American Taxis are highly regulated in Ireland. The National Transport Authority (NTA) is the government agency that issues taxi, hackney and limousine licences, and regulates the industry. It is unlawful to provide these services without an appropriate licence. They are vetted by An Garda Síochána (Irish Police). Vetting process can take up to 12 weeks to be completed. Technically Ireland does have Uber but Uber drivers are regulated and when you order one you have a 'metred journey', the same way you would have in a normal taxi.

Regarding the taxi, ... as she says, people in Ireland are for the most part friendly and unreserved and will easily chat to strangers so sharing a cab is not an outlandish idea. However yes you need some common sense obviously, ... it depends on who is asking to share a cab. Taxis are VERY expensive in the south of England where i live. I did visit Ireland once and had a great time. I'm actually happy if i can get 8 or 10 mbps which is fine for streaming. I think my phone hotspot is usually about 6mbps. I don't even know why i would need 30 or 50 mbps. I remember the bad old days of dial-up internet. 5 kbps anyone?
I don't quite know what you're asking about baked beans. If you look at a can of Heinz baked beans it says 'est 1869' so they've been around for a good while. If i eat baked beans on toast it's usually for lunch rather than breakfast and i don't eat a fried breakfast all that often. I suppose i make a fried egg on toast with some bacon fairly often, with beans or without. I often get some chips from the chippy and take them home and heat up some beans to eat with them.

I figured it might interest others outside of the USA as well. Gives a little insight on why some Americans are they way they are.
I remember 300 and 1200 bps way before 5000 bps. lol.
I guess we just use baked beans differently. I have not ever had them on toast. They are usually a side dish for BBQ or southern American food. We never eat them for breakfast. Sometimes we have "pork and beans" which is baked beans with hot dogs chunks. It is a very inexpensive food that is often associated with lower quality or poor people's food. I like it. lol.

The Irish have great food which they ruin by over cooking and poor cooking skills. You can get good food, for a price, but the general standard is poor, if improving. And that's from an Englishman! Living in Ireland. The attitude to sea food on a small island is baffling. Very hard to get it fresh and again, people over cook it. Alot of people might not know also that alot of Scots clans (at least 40 that we know of) have scandinavian origins. Like recently i've been learning about the Irish mercenary warriors of the medieval period known as the 'Galloglaich' or 'Gallowglass' (anglicised) and how originally they were hired from among Norse groups in the Hebrides Isles, (between Scotland and Ireland) and how both Irish and Scots Clans located around the Hebrides, themselves took to this style of mercenary soldier and these mercenarys became more numerous and popular to hire.

I think it is because we are such a mongrel nation, Irish, Picts, Celts, Gaels, Italian, Norse, Anglo Saxon, French etc. The knowledge of my family ancestry starts and stops at my grandparents and even that is sketchy. My family names comes from Devon, Orkney via France, Ireland and others have roots in old Germanic. How'd It end up in the west coast of Scotland? Don't know. Doesn't seem that important TBH. However, it does show that human migration isn't a new thing, it has been going on for as long as there have been humans. We are all mongrels and long may it continue. The french don't like the english and they can't really the difference between english speakers including Irish ,australians and even americans.Maybe they don't like americans but it may also be that you are being mistaken for the english.Irish people don't get a good reception in france until we tell them we are irish and it all changes. The other thing is they are much more friendly when attempt is made to speak french.
Yes there is an ongoing attempt to revitalise the language ,but although it has become more popular in recent times its along way from what the founders invisaged as the main language of the country

One important thing to know about Britain is that alot of people in the north will say that they are friendlier than everyone else. It's not really true, and depends more on the specific town or city and the social dynamics of those places. There will be friendly and less friendly people nomatter where you go. Even just saying this is contentious.
Baked beans on toast. - Probably one of the cheapest, quickest to make, but ultimately satisfying and filling meals you could have. One can still buy a cheap supermarket brand tin of beans for about 25 pence and they'll still be decent because well, beans are beans.

Crime rate in ratio of population is exactly twice that of Ireland. America is like 60 times the size. Within America, crime varies 800%. Long story short, there are plenty of states with lower crime rates than Ireland. I will not argue that USA murder rate is not higher, but that is usually in a handful of areas like Chicago, etc.
