Breaking News: two American women found out that Ireland has a significantly different culture and somehow managed to make the video completely about America and themselves - Truly Groundbreaking stuff folks
That's the way it's meant to be pronounced. I'm from cork and I say it that way. Just because we shorten words and phrases due to laziness (probably), doesn't mean the way we pronounce it is correct. For instance, some people from where I live say fool like foul. That doesn't make it the proper pronunciation. Doubt that's due to laziness though
There are dozens of Irish accents, at least 50, probably more. There are many more accents in Ireland than the US or Canada, despite the fact the country is much smaller geographically.
As an Irish teen alot of us actually do wear bright coloured clothing. Like nearly all teenage girls in my year wear bright neon yellow or pink to discos, so it really depends on the age group and peoples preferences aswell.
Great video! We were in Ireland in January. We stayed in Southern Ireland because we were there for our friends wedding. We also noticed the interest in American politics. They also love country music which I thought was interesting. For me the food was the biggest difference. It was amazing. Everything was very farm to table. Not like what we have here in America. The restaurants and pubs always had a board telling where they sourced their food. Even the bag of potato chips had the name of the farm/field where the potatoes came from! I can’t wait to go back. Next time we will make it to Northern Ireland.
The Dublin accent isn’t really a Dublin accent that’s a more natural Irish accent proper Dublin is very different look up how Dubs say Purple n burger that’s a Dublin accent I’m from Wexford my town has an accent out the road 10miles has another accent each town and county has an accent must be very hard for non English speakers as I personally find Northern Ireland Derry accent hard n was same when we learned Irish in school I found Northern Ireland just I couldn’t understand what they were saying
- Accents - I'd say I could easily identify about 10 different Irish accents, narrowing someone's origins to about a 50 mile radius. Social class has an impact too. Galway is pretty neutral, and I've heard other foreigners who like it too. - Buskers are supposed to have licenses, and in busy places, have to book their spots - so the argument you saw was probably about that - Trump - My immediate thought when I see any American is 'Did they vote for him?' Can't help it! His antics take up a lot of bandwith in our media too - Clothes - I think Irish people wear relatively bright clothes compared to people in central Europe, where black, grey, and adventurous brown are everywhere. That said, when it rains so much, kinda dont need too much bright colours - And I'm 90% sure I got a haircut in that same barber's about 10 years ago, no lie Glad you enjoyed your trip!
*_I'd love to know if the mural's along West Broadway, South Boston [southie] are still there. They are a perfect replica of all the major republican murals in the north of Ireland. I knew the guy who kept them touched up & he swore they'd always be up but with the freedom to express yourself now a thing of the past i would imagine that sadly there gone_*

Hey 👋🏻 I’m Irish and all your points are 100% just one small side note. If your in Dublin city center in the evening/night you will see a lot of drunk people only because that’s where most people go to party. Most of the good bars and night clubs are there too 👍🏻

I think the reason why we have such a big interest in American politics is because of the strong bond between Ireland and America. President Kennedy for example, an Irish American. But also because the politics of America expands far beyond the shores of America. Bit thats a discussion for another day.

Interesting that they didn't know there where different accents in Ireland but with them being from a country as big as America with states bigger than the whole country in both size and population it's understandable. Every county has a different accent and each one has different accents within it. Talk to a guy from inner city Dublin and a guy from D4 and you'll notice a difference, that's just one. With a good ear you'll know where a person is from down to the postcode sometimes.
Very kind of you not to mention that 50% of all conversations in Ireland involve the weather. The reason you were targeted by kids to get them booze is because they know you wouldn't just trouser their money. Kids don't ask me to get them beer, they know better!
