    Johanna just lived out her life in District 7, forever feeling betrayed by Katniss and petrified by water. The movies really didn’t do her tragic character justice.

      Yeah Johanna went back to district 7 with no one left for her(sure Katniss was haunted by her sister’s death but she still had people who cared about her back in 12) and most of the victors (and some people) went back fine and people there with them but Johanna was all alone, while it is unknown she ever even said goodbye to any of her friends we just know she didn’t say bye to Katniss and notice how in Annie’s letter not one word about Johanna

      @@nmoney6655 yes! You'd think with Gale basically being part of the family would know and possibly use her first name. Then you have Haymitch and Effie and President Snow and President Coin...at some point during this story SOMEONE said her mom's name yet we never get to know? I've never even thought about this before but now I'm convinced it basically edited out of Katniss's reality, what other reason could there be? Katniss wasn't the only one interacting with her mom so it makes no sense it would be because she doesn't call her own mom by her first name...

      I would argue that she developed quite a bit. In the first book she was a shallow capitol citizen thinking only about herself. She was moping and expecting her newfound fame to get her upgraded to a "better district". As time goes on, especially when the quarter quell hit, she begins to realize the monstrosity of it all. And develops an understanding of why a rebellion is needed. Granted... she is still Effie. But she did start to grasp the entire concept that the book was written for.

    About Cinna: he was mentioned to be absent alongside Portia, Peeta's stylist. I always assumed that they were working on the wedding gown / mockingjay dress.
    Katniss mentions how different (heavier) it feels compared to the first time she put it on. It's a feat of engineering that would have taken a while to complete, and they were pressed for time already.

    Gale's mother Hazelle was the only district 12 adult character given a first name in the books.
    Did you ever notice (books and movie versions) that some of the tributes in the 74th and 75th games are not given last names. With the exception of Finnick, Annie and Johanna. Although Beetee is givent he last name Latier in the movies. Also no last name for Cinna and Portia.
    A little off topic, my personal theory is the man who started the riot in district 11 was Rue's father. In the movie version.

    • @Lyca31
      @Lyca31 4 года назад +19

      I always though that too, that the guy man was Rue's father. In Catching Fire, the woman stood with Rue's brothers and sisters is credited as her aunt. So that must mean both Rue's mother and father were killed by the Capitol.

    Just found this channel earlier today and this is at least my 4th or 5th video now because she's got a lot of great things to say and there aren't too many truly great videos about this series out there so I'm very much appreciating her work. Her theory of why we never find out Katniss's mom's name (something I've never myself even realized) has me rethinking my whole life. Because she was so resentful of her mother she subconsciously dehumanized her in a way...holy cow, that's deep!

    Foxface always intrigued me. I feel something else happened to her. In the books we come to know Foxface as a smart tribute as we see how she figures out the trick of the landmines in the first book. Also in the film we say her in training learning about poisonous plants and foods. This got me thinking. Maybe Peeta didn't kill Foxface, maybe she took the easy way out. I think she committed suicide as at this point it was just her Cato, Clove, Thresh and the district 12 tributes left. she knew that if she wanted to survive she would have to fight one of them. I feel as if Foxface knew that if it came down her and Cato / Clove she wouldn't die a quick death she would die a long, painful one , yet if she ate the nightlock she knew it would be quick.
    This is just my opinion :)

    Hey small comment about who killed Thresh: If Peeta said in Mockingjay that Cato killed Thresh, then he did. I say this because in the books Katniss talks about the video after the games showing all the kills. Therefore they would definitely show the death of Thresh as he was one of the main contenders of the games.

      I've been wondering if the game-makers did, or at least, targeted Tresh to weaken him. From the Feast to leading up to his death, the heavy rain keeps going, but the day after Tresh's death, the rain stops. And Tresh was pressumed to be primarily in the field with not much shelter from the rain. Must've been a struggle to keep going, even with his sponsors sending whatever food and supplies they manage, but since it was toward the end of the game, the prices to send anything was outrageous.

    I think the name of foxface is finch. If you google it it will come up as finch, I think, and from the many fan fictions I’ve read, finch was the given name to fox face. I also think that Johanna never really wanted to go along with the rebel plan fully. With the rebel plan, a lot of tributes died for katniss amd peeta and there was also the risk of being captured by the captial which happened to Johanna and peeta. However, because peeta got more attention to recover from katniss, he recovered a lot more after katniss returned to district 12. Johanna on the other hand felt betrayal for no one really payed attention to her and because in the movies amd the books she not as important than catching fire, were not really sure if katniss spent that much time with her and whether they said goodbye. ALso in Annie’s letter that she later writes, she talks about her son, and even gale who katniss says goodbye too. Annie knew how much Johanna played apart in the quarter quell but never mentioned her.

It's written from Haymitch's perspective all the way from his Quell to the epilogue of Mockingjay and the writer manages to build on Suzanne Collins's world beautifully, develops side characters brilliantly and some of the questions the original trilogy left unanswered was cleverly answered through this series. I personally treat this fan fiction series as canon. Would highly recommend if you're still hungry for more Hunger Games lore!

    I'm inclined to think that Foxface eating poisonous berries was an accident, or at least a calculated risk. Katniss only knew they were poisonous because her father warned her about them (Nightlock was not featured during the training), and they looked remarkably similar to another variety that was edible, so desperate hunger may have led Foxface to assess them less carefully than she would have otherwise. On the other hand, even if she was suspicious, lack of recognition didn't automatically mean that they were poisonous, Peeta clearly thought they were safe, and she would die if she didn't eat, so eating the Nightlock berries would at worst accelerate her death, and at best save her life.

    First of all, thanks very much for your videos.
    Some of my thoughts now.
    1. Re Foxface eating Nightlock berries: I do believe it was an honest mistake. Smart as she was, but, originating from District 5 with its main industry being power, and therefore it's largely an urban district, knowledge about plants isn't her natural forte. Besides, she only ate the berries Peeta had gathered, so she didn't question them and very possibly assumed he and Katniss ate them before. And thirdly - we shouldn't underestimate the power of hunger. It's mentioned in the book, when the hovercraft picked up Fozface's dead body, it was "emaciated". She must have been extremely famished when she was stealing food from Peeta and Katniss, and therefore dropped her guard regarding the berries, especially since, I repeat, they were the berries that Peeta had gathered.
    2. Re Thresh's death: It's not just in the Mockingjay that Peeta says Cato killed Thresh, it's in the first Hunger Games book too, actually during the first games. I mean, you're saying you'd re-read the books so many times - if so, how come you missed that? Probably would be a good idea to re-read again. In fact, in the first Hunger Games book, it's described how Peeta had seen Thresh's portrait in the sky and immediately assumed Cato killed him, because - well, what was the alternative? It wasn't Peeta or Katniss who killed him, and definitely not Foxface. That leaves only Thresh dying in some other way (and very conveniently for everyone else, so they don't have to overcome such a powerful opponent any more). Well, it's not very believable that Thresh would die from some animal or eating something poisonous like Foxface, since he was very knowledgeable of poisonous plants, and where he was mostly hiding (in a field), there is no much possibility of any dangerous animals. Besides, we shouldn't forget the factor of Cato's backpack that Thresh had originally snatched from the Cornucopia. He did it deliberately to call Cato out for a fight. And since in the scene with the mutts Cato is wearing the armour that was obviously sent to him in a backpack, it means he finally acquired it, which means he had overcome Thresh. I mean, the idea of Thresh just dropping dead from something else, and Cato just finding the backpack on his dead body BEFORE it got picked up by a hovercraft, is just too far fetched.
    3. Re the shootings in District 11: it could have been absolutely anyone. Maybe someone was trying to protest the old man's shooting. Maybe his family members, friends or neighbours. Or maybe the Peacekeepers were just shooting at people at random - for intimidation. We'll never know. It doesn't matter either way. It's not the point. The point of that scene is to show the ruthlessness of Peacekeepers in District 11.
    4. Re Cray: he was most likely executed. The necessity of bringing a new Head Peacekeeper to the district where Peacekeepers were quite lenient, was to intimidate the district. However, the official reason must have been that Cray was doing a poor job with District 12. Therefore, he must have been severely punished.

    Why did Katniss vote to go with the capitol reviving the games? It has never sat well with me.

    • @TheGeekApprentice
      @TheGeekApprentice  4 года назад +10

      Obviously to gain Coin’s trust so Coin wouldn’t suspect Katniss would kill her (hardening back to the conversation Katniss had with Boggs). It was a ruse on Katniss’ part, and Haymitch caught on.

    • @kittykatzcount1092
      @kittykatzcount1092 4 года назад +2

      Possibly but I just do not believe Katniss would make that call it goes completely against who she is and her core. I don't mind her shooting Coin but that vote throws me right off everytime

      @@kittykatzcount1092 Reread what I said, she didn't actually vote in favor of it. She is not in favor of it, she only said yes to make sure Coin wouldn't be suspicious of her. So in hindsight, she didn't vote for it.

      She needed for Coin to trust her enough to arm her. The “for Prim” tipped off Haymitch as to her plan.

    Cato killed Thresh. Hand to hand combat that was why he was so bloodied and raving when he went up against Katniss and
    Peeta. He was a career but having killed someone so up close and fighting for his life made him realize how dumb and pointless the games were. That's what I understood anyways. It was never an unanswered question. Also Foxface ate the berries by accident. She did not want to die. I never got that from her character. She was trying to win and did not care about nothing else. Hellooo that's what the games do to you.

    What was Katniss's mothers maiden name? one question i have. One more, people with PTSD have been known to have episodes, what makes you think that Peeta while having ptsd episode won't try to kill Katniss again?

    • @TheGeekApprentice
      @TheGeekApprentice  3 года назад +5

      We don’t learn her maiden name
      And Peeta’s issue with Katniss wasn’t ptsd, that’s tracker hacker serum. Massive difference. His ptsd episodes have to do with the games

    I don't think Katniss and Johanna kept in touch after Katniss killed coin because I think that their friendship ended after Katniss broke her promise, her promise to kill snow on her own. But instead she kills coin so I think Johanna would feel betrayed and Katniss gets locked up and then back to district 12 without talking to Johanna again so I don't know
