Always good to see it done properly! It took me quite some time to figure out how to change the angle correctly to gain maximum stretch and contraction on the hammies. Dave does in 1 minute what it took me a month to figure out. That's why he is the man!
Very nice of you to do that. Juji has always lacked proper coaching, so it is good to see that a legit coach like Tate giving him the guidance that he so needs.
Bodyweight exercises are hard to do for big guys like them, which is why guys like me tend to stay small and learn how to control our bodies, but at a price of size and respect.
I just bought one of yalls GHD second hand. Saved me a ton, very greatful, but I needed to see this video to help understand the setup before I attempt one. Great ideas about raising the front to assist with the movement.
Thanks so much for this dave, I've got a GHD and I can't do an unassisted one yet, but I can with band tension, however the band can be awkward to set up so it's really nice to see ways to make it easier 😊
I just tried doing a glute-ham raise for the first time recently and it's harder than it looks. I can squat 390 and deadlift 450 and I only weight 160, but I couldn't do a single proper rep of a glute-ham raise.
Those are brutal and pretty quickly i got to the point of doing them with weight but im truly amazed he cant do them with all that muscle he has. Step it up juji
For the GHR, does Dave still have Juji pushing hard against the plate? Or is it mainly hooking the heel into the pad and using that for the 2nd part of the rep? I am trying to find out the right way to do them as it seems to be many ways.
Great exercise I have a God in my home gym. Unfortunately I have had an off/on hamstring injury for at least 4 years, likely was a partial tear. I could do these usually without any issue, but oddly leg curls and deadlifts would aggravate it the most, not squats usually. Last week I was on my 3rd and final set, rep 6 of 8-10 and had a violent "pop" in that hamstring at the origin, also painful . MRI the next day revealed a full thickness tear of hamstring and possibly of adductor magnus. Also a partial sacrotuberous ligament tear, likely from a fall I sustained in the past. So now I get it reattached next Wednesday. It sucks! Add to the list of bilateral rotator cuff repairs, right quad tendon repair, left tricep repair as well as various other more minor tears, like bicep, deep pec or pen minor, and adductor from years ago. And I done even powerlift anymore! Still, a great exercise and I will donthem again, although it will likely take 6 months or more.
These suck. Had a program that wanted me to do 3 sets of 12 and started out not being able to do one. Took me 8 weeks to get one full set. Stressful on the lower back if done incorrectly.
This is strange. Juji is a strong dude. I’ve watched clips where Dave coaches him in the deadlift, and the dude is moving weight from a deficit. Point being he has to have strong glutes and hams to hit those deadlifts, right? His squats and deadlifts couldn’t be all quads. Why is the one glute ham raise hard for him? Love to hear the science/mechanical difference behind that.
This is an example of isolation and muscle action vs function and integration. Juji is strong in his deadlift because he is able to utilize his body as a whole. When learning the GHR it is looking like him hamstrings are weak, but the subtle correction of pelvic and ribcage positioning, and being forced to maintain the position is brand new for him. This is more of a coordination/positioning/stability thing rather than "strong vs weak".
The positioning is also putting all the force directly into his hamstrings which is isolating the hamstrings completely. Most of the time you will see everyone rock their hips and hyperextend their back putting the force into different muscles and utilizing inertia.
Imagine: with AI and augmented reality, you could download Dave and have him teach and perfect everything you do in the gym. So many people would smash their fitness goals we'd all have to start aiming much higher
I'm so scared of leg exercises. One snap and I'm out of work or crippled for life maybe surgery can fix me maybe not. Meanwhile I can loose an entire arm and worst case scenario is I'm a Lefty now
I've never seen anyone start a conversation with "i wanna see you do a glue ham raise" and get away with it lol
He did actually say the T, you just have to turn it up more and listen carefully.
these technique videos, regardless from Sam or Dave are absolute awesome. helpful af!
The yell is so soothing

NOW ITS FLEXIN! should be on a shirt

Dave is truly a master of his craft. This was awesome to watch
I think the explanation just upped my ghr game
Gave a thumbs up before watching the video , when thumb nail says Dave Tate levels up “ anything “ you know it’s going to be good .
0:36 Right in the feelings

Mr Tate is a wizard
Nice to have a trainer with patience like this guy! Props! 👍

GHRs are super hard for anyone big or small
Wish i had time with a master to help me get my shit right.

Thank you for fixing it! I’ve been watching him for years thinking he could be doing them “better” for his goals.
Juji still arching his back... I digress that this is incredibly tough.
Dave is the goat

You can use a stick as help
Just bought mine and started doing them after 3 months working on nordic hamstring curls, so hard if done properly, but love the feel.

Damn. That looks hard

When's the full training video coming out?
Saturday Morning!
Teach me master.
Thumbs up as usual thx Dave !

heel into the pad, toe into the plate

Got cramp watching this
Close your eyes and it’s Dana white talking😳
Camp as a row of pink tents
I am interested in this but I can't really see what is happening

We just so happen to have a video explaining it!
Where did he put the extra pad? I can't tell.
Extra pad? He put a block under the front of the GHR
Thank you! That part is so fast I couldn't tell.
This is the hardest exercise I've ever done. Way harder than Lalanne pushups.
Isnt this more of a nordic curl?
These suck. Had a program that wanted me to do 3 sets of 12 and started out not being able to do one. Took me 8 weeks to get one full set. Stressful on the lower back if done incorrectly.
Doing these terrifies me. I always think It’s all going to fall forward with me.

Dude. You got freakin yoked...

Or you can just do a lying leg curl and be done. Thanks
