a couple additions: samus requires much harder commitments on average than other characters, while also struggling to cover multiple options. generally speaking she is combo'd the least out of the whole cast, but she may take several hits or lose a stock while trying to regain stage control because of how easy it is to cover and punish her attempts to regain position.

on top of this samus has worse mobility than other top characters and thus struggles to gain strong positions while escaping bad ones. one thing plup is able to leverage into success is his ability to maximize samus's mobility when he recognizes an opportunity to take a good position.
thus i think kira should've said "samus is your main if: you have a strong situational awareness and want to use knowledge & fundamentals to outplay your opponent.
on paper, samus is kind of a worse character than you would think, but learning and playing samus allows you to test every aspect of your opponent.
Dude this is spot on. I've been maining Samus for about 7 years now, and what you just described is exactly what I feel. Kudos to you. I've been tempted to switch back to Falco, my original main, for years, but Samus has me on a leash for these exact reasons.

You knew this was coming, but I feel like I should ask anyways. As a player that doesn't have all his fundamentals/kinda sucks, is samus a good choice to main/secondary? (i main sheik at the moment)
+Chocolatnave123 i would just keep playing sheik, but ive personally never tried maining a worse character in order to improve my overall skill.
but im sure you could get a lot out of studying top samuses, since a lot of their decisions tend to be very specific reads.
I would say: play whoever you want. You can learn and get better with any character. If you desire to play Samus at any level you are, just do it.
Heck, there are people who just goes straight to Fox because.... well, you know....

I'd like to point out that if you add up all the scores with the "out of 5", Samus gets a 26/35, while Fox only gets a 24/35. Lol

In Smash 64 and Melee, Samus was my favourite character to play as, and I think this video helped me understand why. She's a control-oriented character that's also capable of hitting hard and pulling off some flashy moves, while also having just enough weight to take hits as well as she can dish them out.
I fell out of love with her in Brawl onward since she just doesn't feel right to me in later games. A lot of her moves lost their punch and she became floatier. At least that's what it felt like to me.
IDK why they put Other M in that metroid suit list. It's not a metroid game.

Mostly I main Samus because Metroid was my goddamn childhood. But her spot in the meta is exactly where I like my mains to be too: technically the underdog to all the high tiers, but able to win against every single one.
The best samus right now (2022) is TheSwooper going by results of recent tournaments. Its great that melee still has new players rise up and perform in tournaments and personally I love seeing low-teirs. TheSwooper epitomizes Samus's defensive style and likes to troll on the ledge, go check out his W against ibdw its a great set.

- High percentage before losing a stock (Like Dreamland only in 64).
- Spacing dependant.
- Drawing out matches and waiting for openings.
- "Simple" in a sense of follow-ups, but can still be creative.
- Slow and floaty, but still has weight behind her.
Granted, Samus is awful in 64.

The little ball! Let's CALL it an escape bomb! “Down and then B Button”
can be used to skip frames before going outside the map! BECAUSE the bomb escapes skip frames you're like a ball of 4 frames instead of like a character of 20 frames! IF you know when to put it you can save yourself from some pretty neat moments!
Guided-missile + fast missile + guided missile+ small bomb is really good too! It helps you get range attacks and get close at the same time! By the time the bomb ball is out you know which strike you're going to use next! Big lover of Samus here!

My favorite Samus main has to be Duck, although I do really enjoy watching ESAM, Hugs, and Plup.
Well I fit practically none of that criteria at the end, but i'm just used to playing Samus anyways. Years ago when i'd play melee with my brother frequently, I would usually pick either Samus or Fox, and more often than not it would be Samus. Now that I play frequently again, I just specialize exclusively in Samus, because I figure it will allow me to "git gud" much faster than otherwise.
