Considering Samus's _most important_ version of the base gun is the Ice Beam, the Ice Mode is a real no-brainer for her Smash incarnation. Yeah I guess you might want the Wave Beam for damage and maybe later games added more other beams, but you _need_ the Ice Beam to freeze enemies into platforms and to get the titular Metroids off of you.
Samus is alot like Sonic where they're obnoxious in Ultimate because they're so campy in a game that favors campiness but are made far more satisfying in Project Plus.

6:59 Speaking of taunts that change the gameplay, there's an impressive Ganondorf mod where doing the Sword Taunt changes his entire moveset to one revolving around that weapon. ruclips.net/video/AYYRoAabcwI/видео.html
I can immediatly reference three different things: 1. GALINT 2. Fire Fair 3. Tether interactions with ledge/walls. 1. Within melee, samus can use Aerial Interrupt (AI) to get ~11 frames of GALINT off of ledge. This lets samus output any of samus' 6 frame moves safely(dsmash, dtilt, ftilt). It also lets samus touch the ground safely, which allows for her to get her jump and tether back. This makes the ledge a much safer position for samus. Within P+, samus' only option to get enough GALINT, to do her 6 frame moves, is by doing a very difficult and risky technique(I forget the name of it). This makes getting off of ledge and out of the corner much more difficult, since it's not a safe option. The main refute to this is that samus' Tourney-winner-ledge-dash (TWLD) provides enough GALINT. Because this statement is correct only BEFORE 100%, I do not consider TWLD to be a viable option. 2. Fire fair, in both games, is pretty bad in comparison to other games, because it alternates between being active for 2 frames, then NOT active for 4(P+)/5(Melee) frames. In short, if you arent hitting the first hit of fire fair, you're asking to get punished. On the ledge in both games, it can be used to get off of ledge. However, it can be CC'd into a punish. In melee, AI->6-frame-move covers this option. In melee, fire fair puts the opponent in knockdown, at a high enough percent. This lets us make fire fair safe to hit, since the opponent cant simply fall out of the move's hitstun. This also lets us use the move from ledge safely. In P+, fire fair doesnt ever put the opponent into knockdown. This, combined with the lack of a viable way to get enough GALINT, makes it hard to use off of ledge, since the opponent can ALWAYS CC/ASDI down against it. It also is generally unsafe to hit, unless you get the last hit of fair(the situations where you CAN get the last hit of fair, against a good player, are far and few between). 3. Melee tether allows samus to wall-jump->up B immediately after the tether. Wall jump and Up B both have Invincibility-frames on their startup, making it a good option to challenge opponents on the ledge. P+ tether limits samus to grab ONLY the ledge. On top of this, it does not allow for wall-jump->up B. This allows opponents to challenge samus at the ledge much easier. In short, I think that samus is a character that gets cornered a LOT in both games. Due to this, her ledge options really make-or-break her as a character. I could elaborate on what I like/dislike about her Crawl and ice mode, but I cannot concretely speak about those things, making it difficult to properly articulate. It also doesnt help that I cannot find the frame data on Ice-Mode-moves on Rukaidata.com... Your call on what I do here. P.S. You missed out on how GOOD her grab is, when it connects, in both games. I can say that, against most of melee's top 8 and a good chunk of P+'s cast, she can get a throw into an aerial or a charge shot.
Bro melee was my first few games when I was little and I played and I was like oh this dude is a big robo guy. My face when I saw who was really under the suit 0_0
Speaking as a huge Metroid fan I think a lot of Samus' moves just need to be completely overhauled. Keeping her mostly true to her N64 rendition is clearly hurting her, and it makes her look stiff and like she can't handle close quarters confrontations when that clearly isn't the case.
I've actually heard this take a lot. Tbh I wouldn't be against it, considering there is a clone of Samus now being Dark Samus. I agree with what your saying, honestly I think they could do it, since they did it for Link during Ultimate.
@@ZachHonest I wouldn't be a fan of keeping Dark Samus with the old moveset either, she doesn't actually fight that similarly to Samus, the biggest thing they have in common is appearance. SA-X would probably be the best choice if a character were to be given Samus' old moveset while she and Dark Samus get an update. It'd probably have to be a bigger scale update than Link in Ultimate too. Link is cool but the only things that really got changed were giving him Remote Bomb instead of normal ones and removing his tether grab in favor of a standard one.
I thought I was the only one who thought that Marth was a girl and Samus was just some robot character in Melee when I first played it. That's crazy lol
Samus looks so good in Project M. I remember playing Samus Returns and thinking to myself "If they make another Smash game, this has to be the design they go with" only to be disappointed with Smash 4's Other M bullshit for a second time. This is way more like it.
I really appreciate this type of content bro, love the editing, also mind telling me what’s the type of music you’ve used here? I would love to know what they’re called.
samus is def not that easy to combo. despite being heavy and hard to kill, lots of weaker moves send her too high due to her floatiness. she's probably the hardest character in the top 11 spots of the tier list to combo outside of jigglypuff, with captain falcon having the most consistent punish game on her.
Hey, I don't know if you check these comments, but can I PLEASE have a link to whatever resource you're showcasing at 3:22? I want to learn more obscure samus tech and it seems like it has a lot of cool stuff. Thanks :)
I love how they based her design mostly from Prime 2 and 3, just like it should've been back in Brawl, this is the best she has looked in any Smash game.
Ironically a few of the melee Samus mains I know do not like Samus in this game. Darell shits on her I know for a fact, and I don't think I've ever seen any other melee player outside of plus (who uses Meta Knight more anyways) even trying project plus out, which kind of goes against what you said, "if you made Samus and melee, you'll feel right at home with Project Plus" which is a shame, because she definitely has received the most attention.
I also thought Marth was a girl. Silly in hindsight, but you're not alone. It doesn't help that my first exposure to Melee was via a, uh, modded ROM, not the real thing and so he had this pink costume. Those were weird times. Also I actually dislike ice USmash animation. The swing? Nice. Everything afterwards? Bad.
I remember 64 Samus as well being pretty irritating at times. She's so damn defensive and floaty, so Samus at early percents is hard to get a good combo in with. That and 64 Samus d-air is almost as bad as 64 Ness d-air.
She's not faithful to the games at all though. She's relatively slow, very floaty (which is true only to two games, every game afterwards made her drop like a rock) and her firing rate is nothing compared to source games or even Fox.
A cool fact about P+ Samus is that she can shield drop out of super wavedashes it’s pretty sick
I’ll just say keep an eye on Morsecode. His Samus is awesome.
Samus in Melee is a good character where most of the top players are playing great characters.
Considering Samus's _most important_ version of the base gun is the Ice Beam, the Ice Mode is a real no-brainer for her Smash incarnation. Samus is not really campy in ultimate the character is pretty cool
Zoning and camping aren't the same thing why does everyone say this
Maybe you should actually play non wifi samus players?
@@antehman2912No she isn’t. Almost EVERYONE agrees she’s one of the lamest and most non interactive characters in the entire game

Peach is "tanky" because of her amazing recovery but she's not heavy like samus is. She's actually one of the lighter characters.

Do tell!
