This is by far my most watched video on RUclips. I watch it several times a month. Lost my mom to Alzheimer’s 6 years ago (she was only 68) and this song is exactly how I felt about her whole disease.
Love this video .I lost my mother 5 years ago and my father 20 years ago and I find myself grasping at strings trying to figure out my place in this world. I think this is God's way of preparing us to be the next generation to go to him. Bless you
Still watching
lost my mom in february 13 this year, she was 84, Alzheimer... i remember watching this movie and crying... still crying

🙏❤️🩹
My mother loved this film and especially this song. Today is her birthday 9/22.
I miss her.
I miss Mr. Knittle to this day.
I was at this show. It was the most heart-touching performance that I ever had the chance to watch live.
Ill never forget this song
I love this performance and watch it regularly. And did you hear at the end when he stands up he says 'Good to be back', almost as if he is about to resume a world tour. I love it
I was just thinking that I wish I could have seen this performance. You were blessed
If you haven't seen the movie, He is singing this after the death of a friend. This song was supposed to be a duet with the guy. He tributed the song to Bob... Bob's family was in the audience. He watched this song a lot for the week after Bob's death until this performance. Fred, here, and Bob are/were former members who had to leave due to medical reasons. Then a few days before this another (active) choir member passed on, Joe. So this song was very emotional for the choir, and those of us who saw the movie... and those in the audience who understood.... RIP Bob and Joe.
wow..
yeah, i loved this movie so much, i bought the DVD...i haven't been able to get through this song without tears streaming down my face...:)
fuck that makes this hit even harder
Wolfgirl926 he has balls of steel
whats the name of the movie??
Every time I need a good memory of you pops your always there for me. I miss you every day.
+Brian Knittle My heart is with you. I show the movie every year to about 60 college students. Tears us all up each time. But when it is personal.... Hard to imagine. Again, my heart is with you.
+Brian Knittle This is one of my favorite videos... I come back to it often. Sending my respect to you and your father.
how it should be sung. fantastic and emotional.
everytime i feel bad i watch this song. i think its one of my fav. youtube videos. i think you had a great paps.
what an amazing performance... indeed.. he is not very far away from you, in your mind, in your songs, in your dreams, thoughts and heart.
it was an indescriptible pleasure to have found this song on youtube.
take care Brian
Rest in peace, Mr. Knittle. "Lights will guide you home..."
yes. But the bit that brought a tear to my eye was when he said 'Good to be back...' - that was brilliant
This song has never been sung more perfectly imo. He had me crying on the first line. I have never felt this song more deeply. God bless you sir, and thank you for sharing. Sharing your sorrow you turned it into a Moment of Grace for me.
I'm not crying, you are. Shut up.
I’m often coming back to this throughout the year. The story of why he is singing this solo is humbling. How he got through it is a feat in itself. The young at heart documentary should be a must watch for anyone at any age. This touches your soul.
After discovering this cover, I cry every time. Then I watched the documentary... Can't keep it together after the poignancy of what this meant to them. Then, shortly after... My mom, my only parent, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was 62 and just retired. The doctors gave her 6 months to live and she declined after just 2 months. The whole time I couldn't help but want to "fix" her. To "fix" it... Three years later and I can't help but cry when I hear this version. This is what it means to be HUMAN and fallible. This should be taught in high schools because one cannot walk away from the film young at heart" and not be deeply touched.
I'm sorry about you mom Edith. :( Rest in Peace.
Thank you for your condolences. Thank you for your humanity. Still miss her deeply. As anyone who loved someone we have lost. Life is precious.
I am soooo sorry!
edith bunker I’m so sorry for your loss 🤍
💗
Still the best, most powerful version of this beautiful song
1:30 this is the daughter and grand daughters of Bob, who was supposed to sing this song but moved on. That look the crying granddaughter gives her mom to check if she's holding up, we've all been there. (
There are moments you see in this old mans eyes and can tell he has been through a point (s) in his life where he has experienced the emotion and feeling of this song. Old eyes describe a lot. Great cover.
Still makes me cry 12 yrs after seeing the movie the first time. Glad CBS Sunday did a feature on them today.
Movie?
@@just1moretimeagain yes its a film called Young@Heart
Usually I love the original versions and hate covers. Being a huge Coldplay fan was expecting the worst. Who knew? ... this was simply magnificent.
Likely the most authentic and beautiful performance I've ever witnessed.
+Peter McD I wish as a society we valued the soul and wisdom that comes with old age.
Agreed.
well said
"Tear stream down my face" Lol hell yeah...
The Forever Young at the jail scene is a tear jerker too!!!!
He sounds like Johnny Cash!
+Zoe Halliday exactly what I was thinking.
No, I didn't need my heart for the rest of the day. And no, these are not tears in my eyes, it's just a bit dusty.
Rest in peace, Mr Fred Knittle.
One of the most moving performances ever recorded.
how can u give this a thumbs down? Someone is singing, doing what they love. Don't ever knock someone for doing what they love.
Marlea Renee Amen to that my friend!
So sweet sentences
In fairness the thumbs up...
Some people have nothing but hate in their heart.
Amen!
I never cry. For months, maybe years. Until i watch this video. every. single. time.
I said I wasn't going to cry...... But it's just too beautiful......The heart wants what the heart wants.
Never judge people by their age, appearance, health. We all have something to contribute. Big or small. We can add joy to other people's lives. 💖💖
Tears streamed down my face...
when you lose something you cannot replace
Same ❤️
If this performance doesn't tug at your heart strings there is something majorly wrong with you. RIP Fred Knittle. What a legend!!
This makes me cry every time.
If I remember the documentary correctly, this was supposed to be a duet, but his singing partner and best friend died days before the concert.
Wonderful documentary about this choir, so funny, witty and feel-good, but also so sad. :)
yes... it was supposed to be like that... this makes it even more intense when you know that... but now they both are reunited in heaven... for sure :-)
Hello how are you doing?
Absolutely stunning, what a fantastic man.
Amen!
Danny
I
i watched this video in high school and thought it was sad then knowing the context. my dad passed away unexpectedly in august and coldplay was one of his favorite bands, so watching this now makes me cry much harder than i did upon watching it originally. we never had a very good relationship but i was hoping once i got through college and was able to show him i could do something with my life and make him proud of me it would be better, but i never got to carry that out.
So sad for your loss. I know personally that it is sometimes harder to lose a parent with whom you haven't had a great relationship.
That was sweet :)
But why are so many people hating on Coldplay, he wrote this song for his wife and if you don't have any thing nice to say don't say it.
It Kills me. Every Time I watch this. More than just amazing.
I keep coming back to this video... Absolutely love it. Rest in Peace good sir. You are remembered and appreciated.
I found out today this version of Fix You from Coldplay.
My favorite version so far, and one of the most beautiful cover i ever listened.
I saw this film about 11 years ago… And lately life has been pretty shitty… And I decided to watch this…. And my heart just melted. To all the folks on the documentary you are inspiration.
I hope it gets better for you❤
When the heart wants to paint, the canvas is never large enough!
This documentary should be shown in every high school in the country. The interviews of the choir members are eye opening and will shed a lot of stereotypes about older people pretty damn fast. I feel sorry for anyone who has never loved someone where losing him/her made little or no impact on them. If you don't love this film, I know which camp you're in.
💔 🥀
That would be awesome…might even teach them a little kindness and compassion.
2021 STILL LISTENING??
My favourite version. Beautiful voice. RIP Fred.
2022
I agree. After watching this, the Cold Play version is a let down.
2023
Just got here 2023
Still love this rendition in 2024. 😢
I watched this choir documentary a few years ago thanks to my husbands colleague in the USA, how I cried then, laughed with them, this gentleman’s voice was perfect for the song, the emotion in his voice and to know he had oxygen on at the same time, to then learn he passed away not long after I bawled and today he still brings. Tear to my eyes as did the other members of the choir who thanks to the conductor produced a beautiful sound. Bless you all
I first listened to this song about a month after my dad died. This was the song that broke me and it will forever be the song that reminds me of my dad. Thank you. ❤
❤
I've been so lucky to have had family involved in this chorus since it's inception and have had the joy and privilege of following it. It may be the most wonderful, extraordinary and brilliant organization ever formed and sustained in civilization. The story behind this performance is heart wrenching, and earth shattering to the Young@Heart Chorus community as well as the Town of Northampton, where this takes place. When I watch it, I become transformed and transfixed It may just be the greatest performance, greatest rendition, greatest arrangement and greatest community connection of/with one of the greatest songs ever written! What I see in this is almost other-worldly . . .certainly spiritual, in that everyone in that space is vibrating on the same frequency of shared love and shared loss. . . and the depth of caring, along with darkness of despair serenades and surrounds our hearts.
This really is truly incredible. Touching. Has that same power as Cash's rendition of "Hurt."
Just captivating, tremendous stuff.
As I meditate on Fred's heartfelt performance, my thoughts are fixed on my dear brother-in-law, John, who's waging a valiant battle in ICU against COVID19. How I wish I could fix you.
Hi Chuck. Thanks for sharing. It's been 7 months, but you and your brother-in-law are in my thoughts.
@@cg-ny9078 Hey Carmen! Miracles do happen! It was quite a struggle, but over time John has conquered C19 and continues to improve long-term. IN ADDITION, during C19 tests on his lungs, they discovered a benign, orange-sized tumor on his stomach from which he has fully recovered. As I said, miracles do happen! Thank you for your post! I wish you well.
@@chuckcoffin8542 Hey again! Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, miracles sure do happen! I am so happy for John! May God continue to bless him and your family.
This never stops being amazing. I'm crying right now. Just... please fix me. Rest in peace, Fred. You may not know it, but you did indeed fix a lot of people with this one song. Just one song. One simple song. It's such a small thing. So small.
But the impact is enormous. Too big for me to handle.
Man, this kicks ass.
You said it well. I can never hear this song without remembering Fred and Bob and the choir members. Just watching them in the documentary, you get to know them. Wonderful and soulful.
Beautiful ...he had such a comforting voice...reminds me of Burl Ives in its warmth.
You said it so well. Sobbing. 😢😢😢

Fred was the real deal. One of the most brilliant, impassioned, meaningful, and moving performances ever caught on tape--beyond the pale.
R.I.P. Fred... what a wonderful way to remember you by
Yes of course well how are you doing today?
When in hospital I saw this movie. Everyone should see their movie. This song helped me through a painfull period. RIP Fred!
This is up there with Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt".
To those that gave this a "thumbs down". Screw you.
I hope that, someday, you find a heart. But NOT because you've, all of a sudden, had a loss.
The sad part is it was supposed to be a duet but his partner died in the process of filming
Jaida Thompson I'm not crying, you're crying!
Could cry everytime I watch this. Goes directly to the heart.
There’s something I feel when someone older sings a song about written for and heard by younger generations. The lived reality in every word, of loves past, present and lost and facing the reality of the few years left on earth.
Don’t know how I got here but this has a lot of meaning in 2020-2021. Stay safe everyone.
Wonderful, just watched this movie & omg we can all learn something from these amazing people.
I feel like I need fixing right now. That was amazing and painful at the same time.
Yes of course well how are you doing today?
Nobody sings it better. Fred was a miracle.
I watched this documentary with my girlfriend in 2020.. for the first time.. we were so emotional.. she died in February 2023.. I wanted to try and fix her so bad.. I love you Lauren Lee Abplanalp
Need a good cry? I can't watch this without crying. You'd think "then don't watch it". I love it too much to abandon it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for sharing your voices! Angels CAN walk the earth!!

Just saw the documentary this morning and I was just blown away by this performance. Unbelievable RIP Fred, you had an amazing voice.
This is one of my favorite films, and this scene is one of my favorites. It touches me every time I watch it. Thanks for putting this together. It always makes me feel better. I seriously cannot thank all of you enough. It truly is a work of art.
A simple, beautiful song - sung simply beautifully by Fred Knittle.
Yes of course a great and amazing song. Well how are you doing today?
This country does not respect elders. This documentary shines a light on them. You are lucky to live past 60. Life is precious. Can this video be more moving??? Omg
That's true well how are you doing today?
I haven't cried like this since the lion king.
This is incredible! I saw the movie a few weeks ago and just came across this randomly, knew right away what is was all about. I love this, it's one of the most authentic and heartwarming performances I've ever seen. Lots of respect to this guy and all the other people involved in this community.
I love you grandma....miss you
I am grateful to say that I am a born again Christian and have been since I was 19.......like depicted in this video people may be senior aged crippled handicapped having special needs etc but God’s never crippled and the true living God is the omnipotent God of the impossible!!!!! if someone even in their latest senior years can still sing that means God is still using them is not done with them and he can use anyone anywhere anytime!!!!! praise God that despite anyone’s disabilities or weakness God don’t care and he’s no respecter of persons! he can bless anyone anywhere anytime! I am so thankful for the folks in this video and despite their disabilities God has still given them the strength to raise a family and it’s by no accident that they’re here on this earth with us! may we never take for granted such people!!!!! to God Be All The Glory!!!!! Great Things He Hath Done!!!!!! and all hail king Jesus!!!!! the king of kings and the lord of lords!!!!! however folks if you don’t know Christ as your savior then it burdens my soul to think that you are headed for a terrible place called Hell where the Bible says the fire is never quenched and the worm dies not! Folks you are not promised tomorrow! If you want to know how to be saved from this horrible reality then please by all means don’t hesitate to comment right back so I can lead you to the savior! 2 Corinthians 6:2 clearly states “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation!” And Hebrews 3:15 clearly states, “Today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts! It is not me but the Holy Spirit that I pray reveals to you the truth of his precious gospel......John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes on him will not perish but have everlasting life! V 17 says then V 18 says whoever believes on the son is not condemned but whoever does not believe on the son is condemned already because he has not believed on the son whom God has sent! Also Acts 16:30-31 what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house I am not threatening anyone but just warning them what will happen if they reject this precious gift of eternal life! Christ died a horrible criminals death! He was beaten brutally mocked spit upon and endured countless hours of torture pain for all of our sins! Ppl go to hell because they reject that pardon for their sins! And Jesus is saying to them in Matthew 25:41 depart from me you cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! Hell was only prepared for Satan and his angels! It is not God who threatens anyone it is the craziness of rejecting the free pardon of salvation! It’s like if you’re in court you’ve committed a crime say you murdered someone! Now if you say to that Judge hey I know I’ve done a terrible thing of murdering that person but I hear you’re a good judge and so I know you’ll be fair to me...... the judge is going to reply well yes you’re right about one thing I am a good judge and because I’m a good judge I’m going to see to it that you’re punished and that justice is served! Well then all of a sudden someone you don’t even know comes forward and says you know what I know he’s committed the crime he’s committed and he deserves to go to jail but I really don’t want to see him go to prison so I’ll just go to prison for him so he can go free! So if you accepted that offer you’d be free to leave the courtroom but if you didn’t well you’d be crazy and go to prison yourself! Well that’s exactly how it was 2,000 years ago! He is God in human flesh and he came to this earth lived a perfect sinless life and even though he knew that we had sinned and because of our sins deserved to die miserably but he said no I don’t want to see them suffer so I will go and take their punishment for them! Even though he did absolutely nothing wrong still he chose to take the punishment for our sins so we can be set free from the power bondages and consequences of our disobedience to God! Romans 5:8 says For God commends his love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us! 1 John 2:2 says he was made to be the propitiation for our sins! And not just for our sins but the sins of the whole world! 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who knew no sin became Sin for us that we would be made his righteousness! The truth is if you had to get to Heaven by your own effort then you cannot do it! Because Romans 3:10 says there is not one that does good! No Not One! Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death! But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our lord! But the good news is Romans 10:9 If we confess with our mouth and believes in our hearts that Christ died for our sins then was raised from the dead we will be saved! V 10 For it’s with the heart we believe and it’s with the mouth confession is made unto salvation! God gave us 10 commandments to follow and we’ve broken every one of them! And because God is a good God he cannot allow our disobedience to him to go unpunished! Well then like I just mentioned above his son Jesus stepped forward and said no I don’t want to see them punished so I will take their punishment for them! And also like I said he died a terrible substitute criminal’s death for us on a cross so now all we have to do is accept that payment for our sins and we can escape the terrible wrath of God that is to fall on them who do not accept this atonement that was sacrificed for our sins! Praise the lord Romans 10:13 says Whoever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved! And 1 Peter 1:4 you’re an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you! Christ clearly said in John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the father but through me! Acts 4:12 clearly states that there is no other name given unto Heaven or earth by which we must be saved as there is salvation in no other! Jesus clearly states that there is clearly only one way to Salvation and it’s him that’s it! There is no other way! God Bless everyone who reads!
This is so touching and beautiful. The first time I watched the movie about this group my father had just come out of the hospital. I thought it was so special and the world needed to hear them and watch them sing. My father died about 3 years later. This particular song strikes a special cord with me. I grew up in Amherst Massachusetts and one of my sisters watched the movie with me and our mother. She said that she recognized this sweet man singing. It has always been a favorite for me. ❤
Totally, totally awesome. Wow! You should put in the title "Get tissues before watching." I sure needed them. So beautiful!

2023, still here again. The deceased partner for the duet, Bob Salvini, would have been my father-in-law had he lived a few more years.
What's up with everyone bashing Chris Martin? Without him this song wouldn't even exist, he writes (wrote rather) good songs, and he has a unique voice. Is it not possible to appreciate this version and the original?
Chris Martin was deeply moved and proud when he heard this version.
I lost my Dad to copd a few months ago. A friend posted this video on her fb page. I'm a 43 year old biker. I'm a big guy... The guy most are afraid of until they get to know. They thumbs downed because they know they need to be fixed, and there is no one who cares enough about them to do so. Perhaps if each of them thought about the lyrics, and stopped being hateful they just might find that person to try and fix them.
Kudos to the director. What a spirit inspiring enterprise. And this piece, I simply can't hear it enough. This is my choice over the original. So impressed.
