World Party - Way Down Now [Live]

- [Stereo] USTV performance, live, with the assistance of the house band. The original air-date is not in my records, as this is taken from a repeat broadcast of the program. It would appear that there was a bit of editing done, since the intro is a bit "rough" for the lead-in to the song.... and maybe even more?

RIP, karl. my fave WP tune.
What great groove Karl had. Hope to meet him in the other side. Musical genius. Exile on main Street
A musical genius. Last part of the song has such a Stones vibe to it. Hope to meet Karl on the other side . Heaven got another angel
Really. I actually missed this band? How the f*** did I manage that? Their songs are a delight; full of unexpected little twists and turns and ... FUN!
they were great , never missed when they came to town.
"GOODBYE JUMBO" deserves to be rerelease and remastered ASAP.it's that good of an album❤.
Had no idea how great this band is. Thought they were one hit wonders in the 80's, but they are much deeper than that. So glad for RUclips and people posting music that needs this platform to be rediscovered.
Thanks for sharing. Great band. Criminally underrated.
My pleasure. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, and took the time to say so. Definitely a great set of songs on those early releases of theirs :)
Not underrated by people that know and understand Great Music. R.I.P. Karl Wallinger.
He was amazing!
I’m left handed and play “upside down” guitar. In love with these guys in 2020
Jimmy Hendrix also played left handed and upside down with his guitar
Love you Karl!
Love this song so much & Miss the early 90s.
RIP, Karl.
Jeff Trott on guitar. He went on to write a bunch of hits with Sheryl Crow.
God sent . Karl
❤❤❤
Never noticed he played the guitar upside down. Classic band, jamming song.
Sinead O'Conner was on their first album
Great band.... fantastic songs...
Homeboy was heavy on dem 88s for this live..the band #WorldParty is a whole 💯 stacks of love!!!
!♠️✌🏽✝️♠️🇦🇲🇺🇲🖤💋🧷⚓🌟🎶✌🏽
'Here's your big US TV break fellas - the house hammond player is gonna play the wrong chords loudly all over your song' 🤨Them's the breaks. Jeff Trott having it though. He slays on the whole record. RIP Karl x
This is probably circa 1990. Goodbye jumbo is a fantastic album. I played it to death when it came out that year. I remember a review of it and the critic said something like Karl wallinger has produced a cracking album even though it's obvious he hasn't watched top of the pops for the last 20 years! Yes is very retro sounding even for that time but what a sound! Thanks for posting 👍👌🤟♥️
This song rocks much harder on the album
Great post thanks, got to see karl with waterboys and then World party at sheffield and glastonbury...Happy times
Never saw World Party, but I also got to see the Waterboys when he was in the line-up. Great show, as I recall. Glad you enjoyed the clip, and took the time to say so! Best.
Will be back many times for more ! lol
Karl❤
115-0 how wonderful is that? beautiful song!
These guys were great! Schaffer? A bobble head as always. He can play though. I give credit for that.
Wow, what a performance! It appears that World Party were a little spooked and started rough, they almost look physically ill. Amazing how midway through the performance Paul Schaffer flies in to save the performance on his Hammond and then piano, you can totally see K.W. light up and the rest of the band take off! And of course Will Lee is simply phenomenal on bass the entire way.
Paul is their the whole time, but his energy did pick it up half way through
By Golly, you're right. I saw this when it aired, as well as several other times and I'd never noticed. Paul Schaffer saved that band from sinking. Great musical eye and ear.
@@johngonzalez624 What?? His organ playing was obnoxiously loud.
@@tcanders123 always, that was his schtick.
@@tcanders123 he had 500, 000 dollars worth of equipment on stage and all he ever used was that cheesy organ . A fan once wrote a letter pointing that out and of course, he was goofed on. In any case, it worked for him for decades.
Thanks for posting, the rats are on there way :)
+Bill Bell You're most welcome! Ahhhhh, rat tarts tonite ;)
All the sheep will have two heads.
They're clouding up the images of my perfect day.
I think the Stones and Mick influenced this song, which makes it even stronger.
Of course! That's the style of Sympathy for the Devil.
Boop-Boo!
Paul, your Hammond organ is way too loud.
Always had good music on this version of Letterman, but damn let the band play by themselves.
So Stones !!!
One listener is way down now.
If Bob Dylan and John Lennon conceived a son, he would probably look like Karl Wallinger
And sound like them too
Gotta throw in John Cryer in a menage a trois.
@John Spook-eee….
If you liked Karl on this song check out World Party's song "The Ballad of The Little Man". As good as this song is, it's ten times more enjoyable.
Fuck yeah!
Where's Chris Sharrock?
This is the house band so no Chris unfortunately. Yes what a drummer he is!
Fred Armisen look like Karl Wallinger
Not as good without Chris Sharrock on the skins
The band is off.
Great band. Shame that Paul Shaffer's noodle- organ is all you can hear.
I’ve always loved World Party. But the mix on this version is awful - way too much organ and not enough everything else. Check out the studio version - WAY better!!
awesome band awesome song but Paul Shaffer ruined this.
No shit, turn down the organ!
