After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season.
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.
The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The film also stars Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots), and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2025.
Wicked is produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Little Mermaid), whose films, television shows and stage productions have earned a combined 46 Oscar® nominations, 58 Emmy nominations and 36 Tony nominations, and by multiple Tony winner David Stone (Kimberly Akimbo, Next to Normal), with whom Platt produced the blockbuster Wicked stage musical. The executive producers are David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz and Jared LeBoff.
Based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is adapted for the screen by the stage production’s book writer Winnie Holzman and by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The Broadway stage musical is produced by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. - Развлечения
I love when you can tell that a director is going to trust his audience.
Can we all just take a moment to just say how wickedly amazing Cynthia Erivo and Ariana grande's vocals and acting are in this movie. are people born wicked or did they have wickedness thrust upon them?
Preach!
Let’s just Give them the Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA now
Are you high?
@@EqualOpportunityDestoroyafor the music
@@EqualOpportunityDestoroya Are you dumb…
1:59 the hug Glinda gives to say “I’m sorry” and “I’m your friend now” at the same time 😢
A powerful moment we see Glinda’s character go from shallow and vain, to compassionate and caring
There are movies that will always bring a smile to my face; the rarest movie is one that brings both a smile and tears to my eyes. I believe Wicked will be that movie.
I had the same feeling!
Same for me too!
I’ve watched this probably 50 times
The singing in this is going to be legendary. Ariana is a good actress as well as that incredible voice. Cynthia, well she goes without saying her awesomeness! I can’t wait to see this!
Omg I’m gonna cry so hard aren’t I ????
I was waiting for the hat to speak 😆
This not a Harry Potter series 😂
Me too!
If you can't say something nice don't say nothing at all.
@@EqualOpportunityDestoroya a joke is not an insult. It's a nistalgic reference to The Sorting Hat from Harry Potter, the very franchise that start all this wizarding craze in the current age.
Same❤
I love how Glinda showed compassion to her peer.... an amazing story ❤
Of course.. it couldn't have been easy
I love wicked. Plus Ariana as Glinda is perfect and nostalgic because of her Mika popular song and her wizard of Oz parody in victorious (she play Dorothy but still. Also she NAILS Judy Garland). Also I miss her little "cat" noises from victorious.
Glinda: aaaa😮
Me: cat? 😅
I remember once stumbling upon that parody one day and had no idea what it was!
I hear Return To Oz’s score a little bit! Anyone else?
Perfect casting! I looove it!!!
Omg same!
Haha no.
I personally am not thrilled about Ariana Grande, but I’m just not a fan of hers so I’m biased lol. Perhaps she’ll surprise me when I watch the movie
I saw the musical a few years ago, but after watching this trailer, I remember nothing about it.
Who remembers Popular Song with Ariana in 2013? 🥺
With Mika!
I’m so friggin excited!!!
The fact that Ariana sang her 2013 Popular song ft. MIKA which is super underrated is just soo good ❤
❤ This is Great! I can't wait to watch this movie !!
Omg omg omg omg!!! This is epic - can’t wait! ❤
I was expecting Adele Dalzeem to be in this film
She probably is!
She’s wickedly talented
Absolutely wonderful!❤
I'm so excited to see this! 💚💖
I got goosebumps!!
Can’t wait!!!!

Racd! As a huge fan of the musical Wicked 🧙♀️, I am absolutely thrilled for the film adaptation! I just can't contain my excitement! It's going to be magical ✨🎬 Can't wait to see my favorite characters come to life on the big screen!

MOVIE OF THE YEAR! 🩷🫧💚✨ give them their Oscar RIGHT NOW! 🫶🏼
[wicked]
I was waiting for the hat to speak
I haven’t felt this excited for a movie since like avengers endgame it’s screaming movie of the year
ARIIIII
NGL, I personally feel like the trailer gives away too much about the movie... Still hyped tho
I mean it’s a popular musical we know most of what happens
@@0accipiters0 I understand however I am not "we" and, you know, haven't actually seen the musical "Wicked" before so I barely knew what happened aside from some context I gather when listening to the songs through videos I watched so I'm in a weird position here.
@@Moonlit_Fir3 oh, my apologies! I can see where you’re coming from now.
Same here. But I also have not seen the musical but I know a lot about it, I know a lot of songs from it. My partner, who has seen the musical twice, said the trailer is pretty much what Wicked is all about, but he said theres still more, plus I believe this is part 1. There’s goin to be a part 2.
Pinch me im dreaming 🤏😴
FR IM SO EXCITED
Ariana Grande ❤️
I hope they fixed that terrible ending. In the book, she dies and that makes sense in the book.
Did that really just happen? Have i actually understood...
You did. No need to suppress and hide it, it’s really happening!!
Just asking. Is the Wicked Witch now getting Disney Maleficent treatment as well?
This film WICKED is based on the broadway musical play WICKED that has been playing since 2003, and also based on the novel WICKED that was released since 1995. So in technicality WICKED was a novel and a stage play way before MALEFICENT movie premieres
I did not see the Play but I read the book and The story is light years better then Maleficient. It wouldn’t be unlikely if Maleficient took inspiration by Wicked. I think what I despised the most about Maleficient is how they did every OG characters dirty except for Angelina. Wicked was more respectful for its source material.
Wicked was a thing 19 years before the 2014 Maleficent came out.
Looks amazing! But sadly they showed us the whole movie in minutes
差別とかではなく、何でもかんでも黒人を使って公平性を見せるのは違うと思う
役者のうまい下手だけではなく、役柄のイメージもあるし。何だか残念
I've just realised this is only Part 1, yet there's no mention of it? (I'm not a big fan, so I wasn't aware of the press around it until now).
I think the movie probably needs the extra space to do some world-building and flesh out the story, otherwise why bother. It has to offer something extra. A cut-down version of the musical would be an inferior disaster.
However, I'm really not a fan of watching anything 'Part One' until I'm able to watch the complete story. A couple of months? OK. A year? Nah.
Looks like I'll be waiting for streaming unless my daughter wants me to go and see it in the cinema.
What a remarkably bad trailer. No way this movie is going to be any good.
How exactly is this a remarkably bad trailer?? Please elaborate
Quite disappointing.
Absolutely not.
@creedscorner No it is they already spoiled the betrayal by Oz and the new asian teacher lady.
@@owenfautley The musical's been out for 20 years. Be for real.
@@creedscornerYeah but I mean not everyone has watched it. But still, pretty much every trailer for every movie spoils everything nowadays.
@@thatfishguy4991Then don’t watch the trailer lol
I hope it’s just the trailer, but the acting seems terrible. I wish they would have cast someone else for the roles or Galinda and Elphaba.
Looks lame
Look lame sorry
OMG! No one asked you. If you don’t have anything kind to say don’t comment!
@billieeilishisthetruequeen why u getting butt hurt lol i got my rights to c wat the hell I want 🤣

@@billieeilishisthetruequeenomg no one asked you. Also Billie eilish is a talentless slob. I see why you’d be a fan 😂😂😂
Ain’t they supposed to be sisters? wtf is this rubbish lol
Have you not seen these show..?
Tell me you're uncultured without telling me you're uncultured
When have they ever been sisters ?
No!
It's based on a nearly 30 year old novel and a 20 year old musical. It's a bit late to be moaning about it now! 🙄
Nice crotch shot on Arian 0:42 Probably only reason to see this... so, won't be watching.
Are you for real right now? You did not have to comment this. Learn some manners.
Okay. Yikes.
*JESUS CHRIST IS COMING! REPENT! Accept Him as LORD & SAVIOUR TODAY!*
* screams in gay *
Wicked has nothing to do with religion and it isn’t unholy…
Go away troll
Lemme ask Satan his opinion and I'll get back to you
I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time 🩷💚
Epic? It's just woke garbage
What makes it woke?
Feel like i just watched the whole movie 🫤 why do they always do trailers like this where it shows you the whole movie plot
Well this story is 20 yrs old
@@randomgeekcrapYeah lol
Don’t watch the trailer if you don’t want it spoiled..
Seems a common theme when they know the movie is utter dogshit. Its a psychological trick that eases people into watching it cause they feel like they know what happens, hence no anxiety built
@@viperinvestor325 OMG IF YOU DON’T LIKE TRAILER DON’T WATCH THEM🤦♀️
