Thank you Pastor Lutzer for calling a spade a spade. You've pointed out the mistake we anxious parents often make about our children only to be disappointed and heartbroken later on. What can we do to ensure our children are truly converted or is there nothing we can do except pray that the Spirit convicts and regenerate them ?
Good question! Pastor Lutzer has often counseled and taught on the challenges of prodigal children. Even with good Christian parenting, children will still walk away from the faith. Parents need to pray with desperation for their restoration. We can begin by praying for a change in us, as parents, as we wait. this makes sense...I never realized that no matter how much you teach your child about morality about God and protect them from worldly ideals as they grow up, but they still have to be "born again"..so meaning they need to fall away first right?
Good question. Only God can change the heart. Pastor Lutzer puts it this way in his book, A Practical Guide For Praying Parents: "When I pray for our children and grandchildren, I frequently pray, 'God, capture their hearts and keep them for Yourself!' We have to pray that God will make them so sensitive to sin that the moment they find themselves headed in the wrong direction, their conscience will trouble them and they will stop, turn around, and run toward Jesus no matter how strong their desires are." In other words, no, they don't have to fall away first but they do have to develop a heart for God for themselves.
God Bless You and the teaching from the Bible, real teaching! ❤

Praying for your children. I too have an adult child that has strayed from the Lord.
