  • This is how I calibrate my Silhouette Cameo 4 Pro to improve my print and cut accuracy. I use this feature in my shop for printed die cut vinyl stickers, bumper/ window stickers, kiss cut stickers sheets, and soon using this cutter to die cut 24in x 24in inch sheets of printed adhesive stickers.
    It takes forever... as someone who once made a living calibrating and training new technicians how to calibrate multi-million dollars worth of industrial equipment... this is probably the worst calibration software I've ever seen. It explains nothing, and gives no reference anywhere to what you are actually calibrating with your adjustments. The engineers at Silhouette must have been instructed to build an awesome shell for the cheapest machine they could find on the Wish, as they give the machine a 1/16 inch gap for error, but throw a 500+ dollar price tag on it.
    I may do another video specifically about what you are adjusting when you change the numbers on the calibration screen, so visual learners feel more comfortable messing with these settings.
    If you're having issues with this machine, leave a comment maybe I can help. If you would like more or different content about how anything in my shop is made or about the equipment I use, please comment below. This is what I do full time, besides bring a stay at home father of 2 amazing girls, so I am always trying to find new things to offer for customizable products.

    as a firmware and software engineer i don't understand why they didn't program the registration marks to be closer to the edges in order not to waste space for the decals especially that there is a matte already which can serve as the margin so theoretically it should even be possible to cut very close to the edges. because there is also such thing as borderless printing. poor programming in my opinion.

    I heard such good things about the 3 and I got a 4 pro. And holy crap its been a nightmare. I will try to remember to report back but its the biggest waste of money I have ever spent in my ENTIRE life. Hoping this video helps me with fixing it, if not well. I guess a fool is parted with his $500.
    I am with you though, I am never buying a silhouette product again.

    Besides your demonstration for calibration issues, I too had the same problem and more. I had the Silhouette 4 Plus and returned it. Cameo 4 , Plus, and pro have WiFi issues, always disconnect. Reading the register marks failed often. If you don’t have good lighting the marks can’t be read by the machine. Software will crash often when doing test cuts, Windows or Mac version. When cameo does cut it will do it well. But, this isn’t often. The fact is Silhosette products are poorly made and the company knows it. It’s all about cutting cost. I will stick with Cricut Maker and Brother Scan & Cut 125e, best of both worlds. Yes, Cricut and Brother may of some cons but nothing to compared it by with all the issues Sihouette Cameo 4 has. So, would I recommend any of the Cameo 4 models, absolutely not. If anyone decides to buy the Cameo 4 I wished them best of luck not wasting time getting things to work in order to finish one project.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! Little quirks the other machines have are nothing compared to Silhouette Cameo 4's issues. The only saving grace Silhouette has is Silhouette Studio, but doesn't make up for its machines. I was trying to do a print and cut last live I did, and the machine was trying to do something totally different... and I thought I understood this toy lol. Didn't make any sense. Had to restart the computer and the machine before it desided to work. The problems this machine has will never end apparently.

      I wish I read this before, it was so frustrating with the print and cut, it always hits and misses. They said it has an error margin of 1.5mm, that's a lot on small prints. The horizontal axis is not even perpendicular

      Best of luck! It can be done, just takes patience. These machines are frustrating and very expensive for outdated tech, but they do the job. Next cutter I invest in will have a built in camera to insure contour cuting features are super precise lol

      @@northernferrycustomization An update: it was the light I had in my room that was throwing it off! By the time I figured out it wasn't a calibration issue, I used your technique/s to calibrate it perfectly lol when the lighting was fixed.

    This was really helpful! My sister and I spent an hour last night trying to figure out the calibration (she's had the cameo 4 over a year and has never calibrated woops). Anyway we ended up giving up after an hour... Christmas Eve fun
    Would love a video for the adjustments on screen - we are both visual learners. We got the lining things up part down pat, now it's just "what are we actually doing on screen" part (that's when we gave up lol).
    Also wondering if it ever needs recalibrating? I know nothing about these machines, just trying to print and cut stickers for my planner haha

    Hello, I've done calibrating my silhouette cameo 4, but how do you save the calibrate settings? I wanted to do a cut test and cut other design when I'm done with the calibration, but it won't allow me to do so and the calibrate cutting options kept popping up at the send option. The only way for me to able cut other design is by closing the silhouette software, and it just return back to square and my problem of not cutting the design properly just repeats again. Help please. 😢😢😢

    hey i had this issue too. What fixed it for me was the light. my shop had to much light which didnt allow the cameo to pick up on the registration marks. all i did was close the lid on it and bam. worked out fine. this was specific to my case but maybe it could help you too.

    • @northernferrycustomization
      @northernferrycustomization  Год назад

      Thank you for the input! Yes they are picky about light. The angle of the paper as it sits on a mat can cause a registration error as well, I have to hold it up so the mat sits flat as it reads the first registration mark. I am still using my Silhouette, mostly because I already have my money invested into it, but will be upgrading someday to something that has a camera contour cut feature.

    would it not be wise to do the distance calibration before doing the Cut calibration? i believe that the cut calibration is only to calibrate your Printer to the Cutter not calibrate the machine. so when you do the cut calibration it will look perfect but when doing a normal cut the detection markers are only in the corners of the print, so if the distance is off the cut will "drift" because the number of steps per 200mm of travel is not quite right.

    • @northernferrycustomization
      @northernferrycustomization  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching, hopefully I can answer your question.
      When running this calibration you are calibrating Silhouette Studio to the Silhouette, so it cuts where you intend it to. Calibrating ones printer would depend on make and model of the Printer (please follow your printers manufacturers recommended procedures for calibrating ones printer). My printer is an Epson Stylus Pro 7600 wide format printer, and is calibrated to print exactly what the screen shows. The Silhouette graphs it's trajectory based off the registration marks, translated to a path given by the software, as you postulated in your question. So one is telling the software where your machine actually cut, so the software can make the adjustments to the path it gives the Silhouette.
      The 200 mm adjustment scale I adjust with the printed circles AFTER adjusting using the manufacturer's recommended calibration method. This calibration is on offset of travel left to right, and up to down. I find fine tuning this adjustment with an actual cut job gives me the best results.
      The cross hair calibration shown is for calibration of the optical eye and blade, also known as setting a zero.
      Hope this helps!

    Ya that calibration seams very counter intuitive. The cameo does not print so not sure why they call it print and cut. I want to get a tracker feed type cutter and not sure what I would buy but not going to buy a cheap one that I have to toy with. a Gerber maybe ?

    • @northernferrycustomization
      @northernferrycustomization  6 месяцев назад

      Not sure what you mean by tracker feed cutter, the cameo will cut very long rolls. If you are looking for soming that combines both printing and cutting, than Roland has a great reputation. If you are just looking for something like this but far easier, Siser Romeo is a great cutter. Cricut just came out with a high end 24in cutter as well.

      I feel your frustration, there are so many quirks to these machines. I feel they are way too complicated and underdeveloped for the market they are trying to capture. There are cheaper machines with far more precision, actual cameras that give insane accuracy contour cutting, and they are selling this for 500 with $20+ blades... I felt cheated and I only paid 350 second hand.

    Heey I don't know if you can help me, but the problem I have is the when I cut stickers without the mat it feeds the page all the way to the back when registering and can't register properly.

    • @northernferrycustomization
      @northernferrycustomization  2 года назад

      It could have to do with many different settings or just the alignmentof the paper. I have had it do this when I didn't have the correct size paper selected, lined it up with the wrong alignment line, or forgot to turn off the mat in Silhouette Studio (if the software thinks you are cutting with a mat it doesn't look in the right spot). Sometimes the automatic registration just doesn't feel like working properly, in this case I have to manually register it.
      Are you using a a silhouette cameo 4, plus, or pro? They all have their individual quirks.

    • @nestorismaelflores3625
      @nestorismaelflores3625 2 года назад +1

      I am using a 4 pro, and I made sure it is without a cutting mat and the correct paper size yet it sill happens, and it didn't happen before which is weird.

    • @northernferrycustomization
      @northernferrycustomization  2 года назад

      @@nestorismaelflores3625 that is strange. I would manually register. On the cut menu it has a picture of the machine. Right click on that and you will see the option to manually register. Once selected you will hit send and it will say register. Put the cutting tool, not the reading eye, above the first square registration mark and click register. This will initiate the reading. If that doesn't work if use a mat. I do stickers all the time with mats. It is a little time consuming but works well.

      I'll be making a video about everything that can be making it off slightly soon... these machines are so far from user friendly it hurts my head.
      What I check first every time mine messes up:
      1. Did I have a mat or not in design prior to printing. (If changed after printing it changes the registration mark locations. So if I decide to use a mat after printing, just use Manually registration. It won't know the difference.
      2. Print page setup. (Mine was originally set to A4 instead of my 8.5x11. This messed up how it printed and cut for some reason.
      3. Try manually registration. (Auto registration is so unreliable on these machines, though when it works, it is awesome.)
      4. Unplug Cameo and run blade carrier to the far right and back 3 time, ending all the way to the left. (This resets the machines zero when turned back on.)
      Hope one of these are causing your machine to be off, and not have to run the calibration again.
