  • In the last year, the Department of Education has opened several investigations into American universities after complaints that those universities are systematically discriminating against male students. Some of those complaints were filed by Kursat Pekgoz, a doctoral student in English literature at the University of Southern California. Pekgoz, a men’s rights activist who has used federal complaints to target women-only scholarships and programs, is now trying to start a national movement to end what he sees as discrimination against men.

One simply has to read Title IX and it's plain; "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." You see, when rules put in place for WOMEN are suddenly being applied to ALL people. See, THAT is when we have a problem, isn't it.

Partisan coverage from NBC, which isn't surprising in the least. Katie forgot to mention that the Department of Education found Kursat’s allegations against the female stalker to be "in good faith" and "objectively reasonable" in a resolution letter. The woman had a sexual dream about him before breaking up with her long-term partner, and she perjured herself in a civil trial. Also, the woman accused Kursat of sexual harassment because, in her own words, "he was manipulating my emotions and lying to me by telling me that he was not attracted to me." He was literally accused of harassment for rejecting her advances and was "sanctioned" with one-time counseling to remedy for the "harassment." A total of 14 judges from the Superior Court have condemned the University's unfairness towards male students in Title IX discipline. And last but not least, two radical feminist ideologues (Andrea Pino and Annie Clarke) filed THOUSANDS of complaints, against institutions they are completely unaffiliated with, during the Obama administration. Sadly, you can't really trust a radical feminist journalist to convey the facts in a neutral fashion. It really sucks that Katie's political partisanship won out in the end. She may be a journalist, but she is an imperfect one.

      Yes, it is clear bias.
-She provides the meaning of Title IX at 1:43. Then at 2:40 she explicitly states Title IX is only supposed to protect women.
-She makes this seem like all this is because of one angry male student that sexually harassed a woman, without even looking into the reality of the accusation.
-She talks about how women being underrepresented in computer and engineering related fields is bad while defending policies that help maintain men being underrepresented in dozens of other fields at all levels.
-She needs "context" and goes to the National *WOMEN'S* Law Center. She gets "context" about discrimination against men from a woman that is unable to accept the concept of discrimination against men.
No one is talking about conspiracies except YOU. Nice little ad hominem and straw man fallacy all rolled into one.

BTW, didn't hear these feminists complaining about the 700+ all male sports teams that got disbanded by Title IX. No, the good news here is that they are now arguing about it. Yes, they are arguing by using a stacked deck but they are arguing all the same. They even said that prior to this the complaints for men were simply denied and ignored. But now they are no longer silent and that is an important step. Next step is not far off and that will be them losing and losing big. Way to go Kursat! Also, IMO Adaku Oyenka-Crawford completely misses the point and seems to be making it all about her. It’s like she’s not even listening to a lived experience of people who aren’t like her.
“It’s important to remember where we came from so we don’t go back”
But why would recognize the situation of TODAY make that happen? Why would recognize the gender gap in education affecting boys harm girls? In what way does this hurt women? Katie asks Kursat by if he sees it as a zero sum game, but it sorta seems like that’s exactly what Adaku is implying.
“Does it concern you that men are a minority”
    “I think it’s good to be diverse….”
Ok, so why does that mean men should be a minority? Why is that equal? Doesn’t equal mean equal? I know feminists might say “no, because of historical context”, but students today weren’t alive in the 40s or 60s, there are in school TODAY, and today, it’s male students who are behind.

The 50s 'inequality' was mainly due to all the men that fought WW2 coming home, and getting GI Bill benefits, which allowed them to go to college...women weren't given that because the didn't FIGHT in the war. Look at 1943. Half of the bachelors' degrees were granted to women. Of course, millions of men were over fighting a war...This chick is cherry picking statistics. There was a dip in 1950 which soon was recovered and has not ceased increasing to this day.

And there was also a pretty good surge of female degrees in the 60s, 70s. Again, men were off fighting Vietnam. TLDR: It was never as bad as they claim even back in the bad old days. What we should be saying is that we need more engineers, more doctors, more scientists. It doesn't matter what the race or gender is. Give scholarships for the fields we need people in instead of trying to force diversity. Maybe in social fields diversity is important, but STEM fields do not need diversity for the simple fact that they are supposed to be based on non-bias empirical data.

Back before there were all these initiatives to get more women into STEM, twice as many women were taking Engineering than today. It's called the gender paradox, the more money goes into gender balancing, the opposite the effect. Simply put, the wealthier the society, the more affordable the balancing initiatives. However, the wealthier the society, the more people can take their first choices for careers. The paradox(and reduced female participation in STEM) is because Engineering is the second choice for young women. They don't take STEM if they don't have to, and they don't have to.
There is another reason more men were getting PhD's in the 1960's that pushed Title 9. In normal times the gender participation ratios were more balanced, after wars more men would be represented because of the G.I. bill.

Matthew Chapman lol how long ago did women start complaining and getting programs that promote equity before men felt “cheated”

If we are to maximize equality we must be willing to hear all groups' complaints. They perceive a grievance, therefore they are right to complain. If this grievance is serious enough, such as the inability to pursue self-fulfillment, then their complaint is justified. It doesn't matter *when* it occurs, since the power dynamics of the situation would only make the situation worse in the future if it's allowed to go on it needs to be stopped as quickly as possible. @@Kasowsk2012

Good grief, Jazmin, how dense are you? All male colleges, remember what happened to them? Any all-male club/organization/whatever has had women complaining of being excluded. So times have changed, the old ways are disappearing. All-male spaces are on their way out.
So you then say "why don't they just make their own"?
THAT'S WHERE WE ONCE WERE YOU DUNCE.
