  • Hul’q’umi’num’ Heroes: Reclaiming language through theatre
We speak Hul’q’umi’num’, a Coast Salish language spoken along the shores of the Salish Sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Since 2016, we have been learning theatre from Professor Kirsten Sadeghi-Yekta and her team from the University of Victoria.
Drama has been part of our studies as we earn our BA and MA degrees in Indigenous languages from Simon Fraser University.

Come on in and learn some Hul’q’umi’num’!
We are Coast Salish. Our home is along the Salish Sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, and the neighboring islands. The Hul’q’umi’num’ dialect is spoken by the Snaw-naw-as, Snuneymuxw, Stz’uminus, Penelakut, Halalt, Quw’utsun’, and Malahat people and their relatives living among the neighbouring Coast Salish peoples.
