  • It's been just a little over a week since we sat down with Laura to hear her harrowing story of Hurricane Helene. After meeting her online from a series of events triggered by the release of "What Actually Happened in Asheville: A Hurricane Helene Story" we are so happy to report some great news.
This week we are brining some good news, stories from the ground here in North Carolina, and a mini concert dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Helene. We hope to continue bringing awareness for the long term recovery of WNC.
As we talk about in the video, we are all trying to use whatever skills and resources we have available to give back to a community devastated by Hurricane Helene. We encourage you to find ways to continue to have a positive impact on a part of the country that will be recovering for years to come.
We offer this mini concert as a means to continue to bring about awareness and meaningful conversations around the recovery efforts that continue in Asheville and the surrounding areas.
The first song we performed is called "Well Unknown". It starts with a line about Asheville and the beauty of the land there. It is dedicated to all who are battling to recover, have lost a loved one, or just dealing with the mental fatigue of having life altered overnight.
The second song is called "Over the Water" and was written earlier this year in Waco, TX.
The final song is "Young Again" with a segue into "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. This is a song that we have been performing for years and we hope it finds a place in your heart.
Next week we are returning with some travel footage and exploration. So please let us know in the comments what you would like to see. We are still discovering and exploring, so please be a part of the process!

I was scrolling RUclips and found your Hawkins Family video. It really touched me and I was prompted to donate. Ordinarily I donate to relief organizations versus individuals, but after watching that that video I had to do something for them. I know they are just one of many families that lost so much, and I pray that each family will receive the help they so desperately need!! 🙏🙏. Great songs…sweet voices!!

Hawkins family: I’m so pleased that you reached your goal-and then some. You were courageous, brave, strong, and blessed to have made it out of harms way with all your family safe and sound. Continue to hold the faith. And thank you Bergamot for putting their story out there for all of us to hear. YOU are their big blessing!

When you do what you love you never work a day in your life! And you do it with someone you love. You both embody the spirit of folk singers from days gone by. Creating a better world through your music and films. ❤ Thank you for this mini concert, it has helped bring a stillness to my heart i needed right now.

Such a Blessing you guys have turned out to be after your own harrowing experience getting stuck in Asheville; then making friends & trying to convoy out & everything in between. I think it was divine intervention I saw the video you shot then so when you popped up again with The Hawkins family story i had to tune in & subscribe. You both have voices of angels! I'm located at ground zero where Hurr. Helene came in off the Gulf in Taylor Co, FL. There's a great many of our friends that lost EVERYTHING they owned here, including their homes. They were scattered across waterways, marshlands and the forests between the islands at our coastal community. We are thankful that no lives were lost here, however A LOT of lives have been forever changed. My heart goes out to the Hawkins family (& I will be donating) as well as the hundreds, probably thousands of others who are navigating through this nightmare. But I believe Mrs Hawkins said it best, "stuff is stuff" and stuff is replaceable, but as long as we focus on what's most important - eachother & loving one another through the hard times - then we'll be okay. Just hold on tight to the ones you love ... just like she did! God Bless the Hawkins family, their cat & their pups, and God Bless You Both too ❤🙏💙

I just started watching you two when you filmed when you were in Asheville the first night. You two are amazing ❤ my husband and I have a Worship band and hearing you two singing is so sweet because it is soft and precious, it isn’t rock where you can’t understand what your singing! Your voices are soft and precious. If your in Georgia my husband and I would love to meet up with you guys, we love music I just sing and my husband plays electric guitar and acoustic guitar. Good luck on your journey.

I'm so grateful to hear this!! I'm a Georgia native and the Carolinas are my brothers and sisters of the south! Side note: discovered your band because of the Ashville videos and my boyfriend and I are absolutely in love with Periscope and plan on making it our wedding dance song when we get married in the mountains of Tennessee in the next year or so ❤ thank you for your amazing music, for bringing eyes to Ashville and for continuing to care and being true American neighbors. God bless.

My wife and I love and have lived in Asheville. We now live in the foothills, where I was raised, about halfway between Asheville and Charlotte. We were without power for almost a week, but were spared much compared to many just miles away. Your video about Asheville was so good for me to see. Thank you for making the most of a bad situation to bless others. I do understand the desire to connect the song to this experience by putting Asheville in the title, but Well Unknown really captures how unprepared and taken unaware our whole region was in this disaster. A new appreciation for the blueness of the sky seems to be a theme that keeps coming up. Thank you guys for giving that a lyrical home!

Thanks for making my day. You two have awesome talent. My favorite memories of Asheville are too numerous to count, but I miss Belle Cher Festival that ended in 2012 after many years. So many fantastic musicians on three or four different stages , don't exactly remember, but I do remember some thing's because I recorded some of them. Those were great memories. Crushed to see the Arts District destroyed, but they will rebuild. Carolina Strong!

It feels better when I can help an individual or family, vs an organization. It seems more direct and effective. It’s just hard to decide who to help first. So I just pick someone and try to help them.

My family and I have traveled through Asheville on I26 for many, many years. My parents and son now live in Myrtle Beach, SC and travel home to Hampton in East TN a few times a year. Anybody who travels through Asheville knows that if you blink you can miss your exit, turn, or road. I can't tell you how many times I screwed up and had to detour through the downtown district. It's a road trip nightmare! But as I've aged I accept the chances and changes in life like these. My point is that life is full of unknowns and detours but it's these that make our clearest memories. So when, not if, something happens to you be the example of patience and kindness for your children, my children, our children's children. I don't have a good song title but I had to throw out a memory of good ole Asheville ❤

My heart aches for all our fellow humans who have suffered such painful losses in both Helene and Milton😭.
It is so touching to see so many people stepping up to help in different ways.
It is true that the survivors will need help even months and years ahead.
They will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
I am happy for the Hawkins family for sure, and I hope other Go Fund me accounts will help other families too.
    Enjoyed your singing too🤗👏👏👏 8:48

Unity is happening everywhere there has been hurricanes and tornadoes. In Oklahoma and Arkansas there was devastating tornado damage and people are coming together and United because they are all they have is each other. Tennessee also has been helping each other because their all they have. Because of your video and others,, you opened a whole mess of Utubers putting the flooding devastation on video and therefore getting help! And I’m going to say it! It’s the people not the what you would call the officials doing the work

That last song? I'm not sure why you put the hallelujahs in there. It wasn't a religious song to start out with. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I liked it though... All but the overly stressed "D" when she sang the word, "older." Hopefully you'll take my opinion with a grain of salt? 🤷🏻‍♀️ May God bless your feet wherever they may travel. 🙏
