Fincher is a genius. And this movie is about obsession. It even has the rare brilliant tagline; "There's more than one way to lose your life to a killer."

The Zodiac was notorious for the incredibly complicated ciphers he had published in the paper and sent to the police and while most have been cracked by now, there are still three that haven't been solved yet. The cool thing is, one of those three was finally cracked last December and they think the reason it was so hard to crack was because, one, the cipher was meant to be read diagonally instead of just left to right which was something that had never happened before, and two, he made a mistake in his own code, so there were some parts that were inconsistent with the pattern he had created. But they have no idea whether it was a true mistake or if it was intentional. However, the cipher didn't really reveal anything new, just restating how much he liked killing. There are still two more ciphers yet to be cracked and it's thought that one might contain his name.
It is believed before he called himself Zodiac, he killed in San Diego. The police there, recognized the pattern and reached out to San Francisco, but they were dismissed. The SD killer called before and after the killings. The caller spoke the same and pronounced "good bye" the same. First the cab driver was killed, then threatened bus drivers, and then killed couples. One of them were tied up on the shore, like Zodiac did at the lake, but the killer shot the couple instead. The first Zodiac killing and call is identical to the killing in SD area. When crime locations are pinned on a map, you see the killer is going up the coast of California and butts up against the start of Zodiac killing.. looks like, 'Here is part one,, now here's part two." The letters are a mystery. Why did make the Zodiac persona and write cyphers for San Francisco/Bay Area only?

Somebody "solved" this a few years before that as well. And then a few years before that as well. Just think about it, how many times have you heard claims that the D.B. Cooper case and Jack the Ripper crimes have finally been "solved"? The truth is that he got away. Maybe it was one of the prime suspects or maybe it wasn't, but he did win in the end. At this stage, the only way this is getting solved is if there were to be a DNA test that linked someone directly to the killings. After all, we don't even know for sure it the same person who wrote, licked or even sent the letters. We don't even know if it was the same killer throughout the entire run. As the movie pointed out circumstantial evidence just wouldn't cut it, and even less today after all these years.
Nah that's bullshit it's still unsolved, people claim they have solved this case and names somebody but it never comes to anything. Trust me it would be MASSIVE news if we found out for definite who the Zodiac was. It would be bigger than when we found out that Joseph James DeAngelo was the Visillia Ransacker/East Area Rapist/Original nightstalker/Golden State Killer.
The visual effects in this film are amazing because they're invisible. They tried to shoot at all the actual locations, but in some upscale neighborhoods, they couldn't get permits. But rather than just filming in some other neighborhood, they shot against green screen, and digitally recreated the actual location, with the appropriate dressing for the 60s/70s. And that entire establishing shot of San Francisco, coming in over the bay, is 100% CGI, because the port and skyline look nothing like that anymore. It's pretty much a perfect vfx shot.
"Should we not have gloves on" You forget that this is during a time where forensic analysis was at its inception, so no, back then they didnt really wear gloves :P
Ted Bundy is from Washington, so you might find him especially interesting indeed. Netflix has a good documentary about him. As far as this movie genre, I'll once again recommend Manhunter. It's great.
The scary thing about serial killers is not the ones we know about but because cases are sometimes not connected together - how many may be out there operating that we DON'T know about.
I think we all go through the serial killer documentaries phase/mood. The subject is obviously very dark but fascinating. Why not try watching Mindhunter? Based on the real life development of FBI Profiling. features several famous killers etc and explores their motivations, triggers and so on. As far as the Zodiac's concerned, I reckon there were 2. The letter reading 'This is the Zodiac Killer speaking' just says Dictated to Me. I think smart killer and dumb killer. One of the famous suspects died of a 'suspected heart attack' just when some discoveries were being made. I can't remember the details but I was convinced there were 2 Killers, or maybe 1 recruiting other unstable people?
Makes sense. Didn't that guy when questioned keep saying - I told this guy this stuff etc... I could be mixing it up, but I thought he was a set up to screw with them.
11:28 *There was actually a black suspect for a different murder, but the dispatcher relayed the wrong information to the wrong cops.* Basically Car A (on .. street) is looking for a white guy, and Car B (on .. street) is looking for a black guy; and the dispatcher told the opposite car who they were looking for. *You must remember, back in the day they manually relayed calls.* They had to pull-out and insert plugs into each call line etc. I’m pretty sure it was still like this at the time.
5:53 if reacted to or in private, maybe watch Mindhunter. It is an awesome show that touches similiar subjects. Then watch actual interviews of the killers portrayed there and be mindblown by the actors performances. That's actually how I discovered it, being interested in psychology, watching serial killer interviews and then seeing the name "mindhunter" in the comments you know, If I'm here already and you'll maybe read this, in halloween spirit, take a look at hereditary. Blew me away. Wish you a great fading-out 2021 my dude
This whole case is nuts irl, after 52-53 years the real killer still hasn’t been caught or identified plus he’s probably dead right now since he would most likely be in his 80s-90s.
Arthur Leigh Allen wasn’t the zodiac, take a look at the sketch photo of the zodiac, looks nothing like Arthur, this film was based on books from a guy who thought it was Arthur Leigh Allen and refused to believe otherwise, the zodiac was around 5’7-5’9 and had crew cut hairstyle, Arthur Leigh Allen was 6’2 and bald so doesn’t add up
It was “solved” like a couple of weeks ago. But I think it was him since people were referring to him as zodiac on Facebook lol. He also looks like the drawing but older. I want to know what the codes said though.
They really made it seem like the girl in the opener knows who it is and why they're there. She isn't stating much; more assuring towards the boy in the car. I wonder what info they had on that or if it's just writing.
Check out Se7en if you enjoyed this movie 👌 Also, if you check out some Zodiac documentaries/books, then you might change your mind on it being Arthur Leigh Allen 😬 I was convinced it was him after watching this movie but there’s so much more to discover.
I watched this movie this year too for the first time and it was...best scene is the scene when Jake thinks he's going to the killer and the guy decides to mindfuck him but at the time you don't know he was pranking him so there's this big tension and fear of it like, "is this really the killer?".
There have been new developments in the last couple years, and a cold case group thinks they solved it. It wasn't Arthur. It was a guy named Gary Poste.
Fincher is simply the best at interrogation scenes. He makes the audience really peer into the suspect's facial expressions, body language to figure out if he's lying or not. Zodiac and Mindhunter are outstanding testaments to that.
My parents moved to San Francisco shortly before the zodiac killer started killing. I remember hearing them talk about that period of time. The whole bay area was on edge, worried, not knowing what would happen.
Ahaha I was exactly the same after watching this movie for the first time🤣 great reaction as usual dude🙌🏻 I seen something a few weeks ago in the news about a guy named Gary F Poste, who is now the primary suspect in the case, it might be worth doing a few Google searches about him. He did die in 2018 thought so maybe it’s just one of them cases where we’ll never know the final verdict.
People in the past were very innocent and news didn't spread that fast. At present we know that there are many "normal" people out there, waiting for us.
They just recently, literally in the last week or two, decoded part of the Zodiacs last message. Apparently he made a mistake when he wrote it, is why it took them so long. Obviously they’re using a computer program to run through it lol
29:50 there's a Netflix documentary series called Unsolved Mysteries. They basically tell the story of real crimes, present the evidence and all of that... You hear from all parts involved (witnesses, police officers, detectives working the case etc) and in the end they always say "if you have any information about this case, please contact (some number police whatever)". I think they already cracked a case because people watching the show helped them.
Please react to The Crow (1994), Brandon Lee is the lead actor he is the son of Bruce Lee, it’s an amazing movie. This is Brandon Lee tragic performance, Lee got shot with pieces of residue from a blank bullet still stuck in the chamber of the prop gun, the prop crew didn’t clean the gun and didn’t check if the gun still had any residue which it did. The director and crew and actors all though that the scene went as planned but they saw Brandon on ground for a couple of minutes they thought he was playing a joke or something but he wasn’t, they walk towards him and turn him and see that Brandon was really shot for real so they rushed him to the hospital where doctors performed surgery but after they told the crew that Brandon Lee had passed away on March 31, 1993 Brandon Lee was only 28 years old. They still went ahead and finished the movie but some scenes are not Brandon they used his body double to finish the movie but they CGI his face.
u need to watch all the other fincher movies now. the serial killer ones are also seven and the girl with the dragón tattoo but i do think Zodiac is his masterpiece.

Yes! My fave Fincher film. You have to see his Mindhunter series, which is also based on a true story.
The Zodiac Killer’s identity just recently got “revealed”
“The most dangerous game” is a good story it’s black n white but it’s worth the watch 🔥
"Should we not have gloves on"
You forget that this is during a time where forensic analysis was at its inception, so no, back then they didnt really wear gloves :P
Fun fact: my grandparents lived down the street from Allen’s trailer in Santa Rosa. I still live in Santa Rosa today.
Ted Bundy is from Washington, so you might find him especially interesting indeed. Netflix has a good documentary about him. As far as this movie genre, I'll once again recommend Manhunter. It's great.
I'm convinced that the Vietnam war played a significant role in the surge of serial killers in that late 60's and early 70's.
Watch Prisoners 2013 I've been requesting it since your old channel, bro you will like it I promise
Bruh I fell out laughing when you said you were about to call 911. Lmaooo 😂
fun fact: the guy in the basement scene is the same actor who voiced Roger Rabbit. the RANGE, man lmao
Fun fact. In some counties around Vallejo they still have the case open
The scary thing about serial killers is not the ones we know about but because cases are sometimes not connected together - how many may be out there operating that we DON'T know about.
Jake Gyllenhaal is really good at being a detective in movies.
He's simply a brilliant actor
I fucking love this movie. Easily one of my favorite thrillers of all time. David Fincher is such a good director. Also the cast is amazing.
That's actually how I discovered it, being interested in psychology, watching serial killer interviews and then seeing the name "mindhunter" in the comments
you know, If I'm here already and you'll maybe read this, in halloween spirit, take a look at hereditary. Blew me away. Wish you a great fading-out 2021 my dude
Great film. That killing by the lake nearly made me sick the first time I saw this. Saw it way before I knew there were two Avengers in it.
This whole case is nuts irl, after 52-53 years the real killer still hasn’t been caught or identified plus he’s probably dead right now since he would most likely be in his 80s-90s.
Zodiac is Actually the version
Of Riddler in The Batman Universe
Arthur Leigh Allen wasn’t the zodiac, take a look at the sketch photo of the zodiac, looks nothing like Arthur, this film was based on books from a guy who thought it was Arthur Leigh Allen and refused to believe otherwise, the zodiac was around 5’7-5’9 and had crew cut hairstyle, Arthur Leigh Allen was 6’2 and bald so doesn’t add up
Bro no way !!! I was just watching this movie for the first time today but now I’m on my way to take my driving test
I wonder if this mystery will ever be solved.
It was “solved” like a couple of weeks ago. But I think it was him since people were referring to him as zodiac on Facebook lol. He also looks like the drawing but older. I want to know what the codes said though.
@@jerrygodeep4787 there’s been several people thought to be the killer but no one really knows
A group of people called The Codebreakers apparently solved it a few weeks ago, apparently the guy's name was Gary Francis Poste, he died in 2018
@@jerrygodeep4787 The FBI said it wasn't him.
@@twdclementine11 that’s why I said “solved”.
They really made it seem like the girl in the opener knows who it is and why they're there. She isn't stating much; more assuring towards the boy in the car. I wonder what info they had on that or if it's just writing.
The not having gloves on during the search of the trailer, you have to remember the time period and where we were forensic science/protocol wise
Actually they just recently found the identity of the zodiac killer, Gary Francis Poste, who passed away in 2018.
They think it was him. They still don’t know.
@@Gino565 oh, mb.
Check out Se7en if you enjoyed this movie 👌
Also, if you check out some Zodiac documentaries/books, then you might change your mind on it being Arthur Leigh Allen 😬
I was convinced it was him after watching this movie but there’s so much more to discover.
I got really deep into this case after seeing this, they actually solved one of the letters a few months ago...... Amazing case.
Been obsessed with the Zodiac case since seeing it on Unsolved Mysteries around 1989. It's also mathematically certain it was Arthur Leigh Allen.
I watched this movie this year too for the first time and it was...best scene is the scene when Jake thinks he's going to the killer and the guy decides to mindfuck him but at the time you don't know he was pranking him so there's this big tension and fear of it like, "is this really the killer?".
The Zodiac Killer was apparently identified *this month* as Gary F. Poste (deceased 2018)
There have been new developments in the last couple years, and a cold case group thinks they solved it. It wasn't Arthur. It was a guy named Gary Poste.
So I've read the actually transcript from the police interview with Arthur Leigh Allen and that scene is word for word correct. Its fucking chilling
Fun fact, the “340 cypher” was only just solved 10 months ago. It was a big segment on the news.
The Hulk, Ironman, Mysterio, Stryker and the old Scarlet Witch should've been able to take out Zodiac Man in 2 minutes
Iron Man, Hulk & Mysterio all working together to stop a creepy madman? And sadly failing? Still pretty decent. Lol
You definitely need to watch MINDHUNTER: it’s a Netflix show that was produced by the director of this and it has the same vibe
You probably wouldn't have put it in reverse and left back in the 70s.
If you liked this, you’d love the“Mindhunters” series, which is also EP’ed by Fischer. It’s tonally similar.
please watch the netflix series "Mindhunter" also by David Fincher and also about multiple real stories about seriel killers. Outstanding!
Crazy that Jake, Mark and Robert all end up in the MCU🔥
Suggestions: Se7en, Se7en, The Bone Collector, 88 Minutes, Se7en, Silence Of The Lambs, Red Dragon and Se7en ;) Great reaction as always my friend!!
I'm sure you would enjoy the unabomber series on netflix. It's really well made and also reflects on a real story.
That series is awesome, one of my favorites! mad they took it down smh
They just recently, literally in the last week or two, decoded part of the Zodiacs last message. Apparently he made a mistake when he wrote it, is why it took them so long. Obviously they’re using a computer program to run through it lol
Let’s go one of my favorites of all time! So damn good at building those suspenseful moments.
Wow that’s awesome! Might check it out off cam!
Im still curious though, how much of the evidence was planned to just fall short of incriminating, and how much was accidental and luckily slipped through the cracks in the legal system?
Dude you should watch Manhunter!😄 Original Hannibal Lecter movie before Anthony Hopkins made his iconic mark with the character. Super good 80's movie, directed by Michael Mann. That's my serial killer genre recommendation, great reaction my friend!
That stabbing scene is one of my most uncomfortable movie deaths. Not because it's the most brutal gore-wise, but because its super blunt and realistic. That's how fast someone can actually stab you up and end you in real life. Out of nowhere.
If you loved this, then I also highly recommend "Spotlight". Both have similar styles and you just get sucked into the case. Another brilliant Mark Ruffalo performance.
Definitely one of the best crime, serial killer movies in history
Just in case you didn't know, this was directed by the same man (David Fincher), who directed Fight Club and Alien 3. The dude is a master.
If you like this, youll like se7en and prisoners.
Yes. Facts
Even gone girl, although it's a different vibe
it's so wild that both the Hulk and Iron Man before they were the Hulk and Iron Man are in this movie lol
HEY GUYS THE ZODIAC KILLER CASE WAS JUST SOLVED!!!
“Solved” 👀
@@ItsAPrimatee I'm pretty sure it was solved it's on cnn.
