I normally recommend using split wire loom to use as grommets, but in this case it might be better for him to disconnect the hoses/wires and get real waterproof grommets. Here is a sample of what I mean by using a split wire loom: ruclips.net/video/Fdv-eBSzWCI/видео.html
Amazing work and so glad to hear you're recovering from pneumonia. Please take it easy for a while to regain your strength as I look forward to seeing your progress. Stay safe and mend
I’m pretty sure someone else will mention this but its easy to see already that your hydraulic lines have movement and are going to chafe as they exit the hull so some good quality grommets are definitely needed, the same below your wheel on deck
I was surprised he didn't install fittings to the deck and attach the lines to those. That would have helped with the seal and kept the hoses from being worn.
Glad you're better. They say the journey is often times better than the destination. One day when projects are very few and far between, you'll look back on this and recant stories about what you went through, maybe to your own children with a smile on your face and realize it was all worth it.
Good job on the hydro steering. For simplicity's sake don't forget to mark the centered position on top of the steering wheel so you don't need to keep looking back at the motors to see it they are set to straight ahead. This really is a handy trick to do with a colored band of some type at the top center of the wheel. HAPPY 2023.
Great video . FYI They make bulkhead hyd. fitting so you have to run hoses thru holes.Your push rod for the engines is to small of a diameter and will flex.
Hi Shawn great job. Here a little recommendation, use grommets in those places where control cables, wires and electric cables pass thru steel holes. Those can be made even from pieces of hose or purchased to your required size. Great projects I enjoy all your posts. Saludos desde Puerto Rico, Juan.
I know you might think this is silly but your channel has become one of my favorites, and I gets so excited to watch your updates. I literally sit down with a glass of wine 🤣🤣 Heal up. Can't wait to see what's coming next.
Also when welding pointy corners as in the tubes or even a square edge weld from the point to the inside, that way you are going from the thinnest part to the thickest part and the end of your weld is less likely to melt away.
Bless you! Pneumonia,,,,,,,, theres a real hard lesson to teach yourself😢 it’s really hard ,,,,,, but learning when to take time off is an art form,,,,,, because it doesn’t come natural when you want to keep going & you feel you’re letting yourself down!!! But you really are a credit to yourself👍👍👏
My first comment on your very interesting projects! I love your step by step progress not being ashamed of some errors here and there. Trial and Error is often the best teacher... I just love the magnetic drill stand which is now on my bucket list.
I recommend adding a lot thicker tube for the tie rod style heim style joints. That is a failure point with the torque those motors will produce under load. I’d suggest going with some heavy duty heims and using thick walled tubing
Awesome video Shawn ! This is great informative content. I love the diverse content your videos have. You are certainly a Jack of many trades and a master of drainage solutions. I love your videos and especially your humble & thoughtful approach to the work you do. I’m soo glad I found your channel! Thanks again George from Melbourne Australia. 🙂
First of all, i'm sorry you were sick, i hope you feel better, and fully recover quickly. Apparently the holidays flight cancellations weren't just here in the U.S. i too had to stay home for the holidays, and i too was a little ill, but not as bad as you. take care of yourself, stay hydrated, take zinc, and vitamin C, and get plenty of rest, and plenty of fresh air.
Hi. Don’t forget to have weight on your mind when building on top. I’m afraid you’ll get stern heavy. Maybe have your fuel/water in 3 different holding tanks- bow, mid and stern with pumps? Or go for a simple ballast system. 😁
He has a flat bottomed cargo barge to work with so stability from bow to stern will be very good. Starboard to larboard will be a bit more sensitive. Ballast cures any imbalance when final construction is complete.
This boat is 16,500 kg and a flat bottom. I doubt all that weight on the stern will have much effect. It’s also a waste of time commenting on such potential problems because he is well in tune with the needs of boats after owning 5 or is it 6 boats and all with significant modifications. Don’t worry, he has got this.
@@teeanahera8949 a waste of my time or your time😉 dude I love this guy. Only trying and hoping he will succeed in the future! This channel deserves more subscribers! 😄
That looks like a very robust and useful platform for a bunch of functions. Hope your feeling better now and have recovered from the various stages of the winter illnesses.
hello from the Netherlands . the only thing I personally would have changed is the way of the hydraulic feed-throughs, I personally would have opted for a mounting/screw feed-through here, so that you get shorter hoses, so an engine -> mounting-through outsite as 1 short hose, mounting-through inside -> inside deck mounting as 1 hose, outside deck mounting-through -> steering wheel as 1 hose. this makes it easier to replace a piece of hose in the future and the costs are lower because it is not 1 very long hose. By the way, you can protect the hoses well against UV light by putting them in an old fire hose or sleev. hoses that receive a lot of UV light weather quickly . thanks for the video . Sincerely Hollandduck
Well done! I hope you’re fully recovered. I’m sure you’ll get a proper spacer made rather than relying on that melange of washers. I admire your spirit of adventure and courage in taking on jobs which you honestly say you’re not an expert. Great attitude!
I’m sorry you got so sick, we did too over here in California, I thought I was gonna die!!! Nice work, as usual, exciting to see and to watch your skills explode!!!
Nice, but it will rust from the inside as you should weld in tubes where the bolts go through. that will keep it dry. also we found on our barge that indepentent stering was far better
the engine maintenance platform was excellent. now it would be nice to tilt the instrument console towards the operator so he doesn't have to lean over the instruments to read the information. the tilted console becomes more ergonomic.
I suggest that you provide drain holes to all box sections as I guarantee that after a time they will have water accumulate in them, from where, who knows but I suspect condensation that can then freeze and split the steel - ask me how I know?
great job, glad you are on the mend. I would increase the diameter of your engine connecting rod as there is a lot of flex in it. I would also increase the size of the joint.
Oh no! That's not a good way to spend your holidays!! I got COVID over the holidays, but luckily avoided the hospital. Hope you are feeling much better now!
Look at that what are you doing from an ex fabricator I think you’re marvellous you doing really well one thing I would add you’ve got two lovely outboard motors and winter is coming why don’t you cover them to give them some protection from the weather well done with everything you’re doing and keep the good work 😊😊
Nice work on the platform and steering. I feel your pain, I'm laying in bed sick all weekend. Not sure about Germany, but here in the states the flu is kicking our butts
See that would never happen to me. I'm too lazy to do any real work, so if I got sick, I wouldn't push it that hard. I'd basically go back into vacation mode and wait to get better. You're a better man than me.
Moin Konen für Propeller, Steuerräder, Zahnräder, Riemenscheiben, also alle solche Welle/Nabe-Verbindungen die ein Drehmoment übertragen sollen werden nicht gefettet, sondern sauber und trocken gefügt. From recent experience I can tell you one problem you might have, water coming up behind the boat from underneath, hitting the plates the motors are attached to and coming back up into the boat because as you go faster the more the water hitting those plates will be forced forward up and into the back of the boat.
Jeepers sorry to hear you have been unwell I was wondering why there was no updates for a while hope you up to speed now, I live in Australia and we currently its 37c atm coldest it gets in my state is 10c degress never seen weather that cool it snows
Hi there, cool videos. Do you need to make sure the steering is straight before you trim the engines up? Maybe they will hit the deck between the engines.
Good job, love your videos. Maybe a tip, put some rubber grommets in the holes so the lines do not get damaged by rubbing on the edge of the steel.
Yes, and to hold water and dirt out.
I was going to say the exact same thing.
I normally recommend using split wire loom to use as grommets, but in this case it might be better for him to disconnect the hoses/wires and get real waterproof grommets. Here is a sample of what I mean by using a split wire loom: ruclips.net/video/Fdv-eBSzWCI/видео.html

@@cap_eath well exactly and in fitting the grommets he’ll most likely be in for a second bleeding of his system.
I'm pretty amazed at all the work you've done while living on the boat. And made a channel interesting enough to watch

there is no mechanical connection so the center position will not stay.

Please considere putting a plate under the transoms to box the bottoms off if not im afraid they will act like a scoop and cause drag

The motor steering tie rod looks like it will bend and deform with torque backlash when under load when both engines are running
