I have the 1st version V1 from 1990, probably in new condition. A great preamp with DI and drive function... The only thing when you turn up the highs, preense, treble & blend, you hear quite a bit of noise, but that must be normal with analogue pedals?
Sansamps aren't super expensive and there are a lot of alternatives - would love to see one of these companies do something like a riff off a Motown preamp. THis does look more appealing than the Behringer knock off though!
@@willb1157 they're under 300 here - that is actually expensive for me as i'm a poor musician i'm talking more generally, i don't know where arrogance goes into. i used super expensive as a lot of the fancy preamps(dark glass, motown preamp etc.) are definitely in need of cheaper alternatives. that's my point really - there's a lot of preamps that are just inaccessible to me but there's a few decent sansamp alternatives as is

People have brought those things over and over, and always ended up not wanting the sound, The one use case that really lands is eighties and early nineties fretless or fretless-adjacent technique and instruments. If you want to sound like Tony Levin on a Gabriel record, this is the tech for you, no doubt about it. It does that thing very well.
Impressive for the price! Pretty much everything many bass players might want/need to get a little more control and an amp-like sound when going straight into the mixer. Even a compressor, and drive with a dedicated switch, and it sounds decent - well done!

how can you say that preamp is good if the bass you are using is good you should use it with a cheaper bass to really say it sounds good.. imagine that you are using a good type of bass, even if there is no sonic cake, it will definitely still sound good because of that nice bass
Theres only 1 tech21 made right in Clifton NJ USA.. Nothing else is going to sound as good or as reliable. Every major record sinxe the mid 80s your hearing a real sansamp.
I have owned version 1 Sansamp for 20 years now and it is the best plug in and play pedal I have ever tried

What? Maybe for you. Here they are $500+. And “super expensive” is so subjective and to me- arrogant, it doesn’t really deserve the bandwidth.

Great to hear the Rickenbacker sounding like a bass and not like a low tuned Overdrive Guitar, seems good value for the price!
