Once upon a time I walked in and said to my son , what the heck is this shite your watching. He said give it time mother and you will love it. So I did that and guess what . I’m a huge fan . If you are having a shite of a day , watch the booth . 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Of course there was. It was taken off the BBC...Also for Old Greg...Transphobic apparently....Even though hes a hermaphrodite.....Dont worry...We went through a bit of this in the 80s....The backlash in the 90s was glorious and resulted in shows like this. Intention is everything. The Spirit of Jazz was a homage to Julians love for jazz and all those legendary black musicians who influenced so many. Thats how things should be taken....in the way they were meant...
This series meant absolutely everything to me in my teens. I loved the humour and Noel's image so much. That being said - and I mean this with love and respect - this show is very much a product of its time. Much in the same way that programmes like Bo Selecta were massive at the time, the humour hasn't aged very well all these years later. Still, an iconic show and cultural phenomenon.
The mighty boosh is the epitome of the term “for its time” it just worked when it was on tv and it just wouldn’t work now in 2024. Of course old fans would love it to return though
i usually find fulcher about as funny as a punch in the face! I was unlucky enough to see his one man show as "Eleanor" at the Edinburgh festival some years back. Whole auditorium had some 5 people in it, it was cringe in the extreme.
I saw this show in Cambridge and he did all the same “off-script” bits. It is just brilliant writing and delivery that makes it feel fresh and off the cuff.
When i was like 17 or so my then emo girlfriend introduced me to the mighty boosh live. At first i didnt know what i was watching lol. After a while they grew on me and now everytime i watch them, I think of her. Wish i was still with her.
OMG such a AMAZING, show after tv series, still LOVE nole fielding, but was so good on British bake off ,massive emotional memories, from my youth, lot of people didn't get them ,,,,,,all I can say IS FOX ,IF YOU DON'T GET THAT FROM THE TV SHOW, OMG XXXX
not particularly; someone in the audience cosplaying a character from the show - or if you're a retard, 'someone doing blackface' - was bound to warrant mentioning at some point or another. just drawing attention to someone who put in effort while attending the show, was the way i saw it.
I know in the light of BLM we look at things differently these days. Maybe I was blinkered, but I never saw the Spirit of Jazz character as blackface..At least not in the Black and White minstrels/1970's racist sense. I always saw this character as more like the death spirits of Mexican culture. A bit like Papa Lazarou in League of Gentlemen. More of a grotesque/clown character than an attemt tp look like a black person.
Only half way and I'm already horrified. Can't imagine a how someone who had been sexually assaulted would react to this. I'm not even trying to be pc A bunny that rapes you coming into the stage to pretend rape the audience? ???? We are living in a matrix people
ah yes, whenever i see absurdist humor i definitely think 'whoa just like the matrix, i wonder if all the theoretical victims in my head would be okay with this'
Noel Fielding does a joke about this on one of the live shows. His character The Hitcher has a pet crow, who is at risk of raping the audience. He addresses whether rape is anything to joke about, but concludes it can be funny if it's s CROW doing the deed. If it's a person, different matter.
Always remember that reactionaries/conservatives are the original political correctionalists. "We are living in the Matrix" is the most sheeple quote thats used.

Still as absolutely fantastic as ever, I loved this growing up. First series was the best but all are good
Growing up is realising that Julian is the fit one. How did I miss that when I was 17?

He ages like a fine wine.
When I was a teenager it was just Noel. Now that I've grown up I've realised I'm a simp for both 😂😂
