@@thedazedbandman hmm it actually sounds like a sitar on the album but it would be cool if kirk or james used a bunch effects to get a sitar tone on a guitar
I get to teach middle school guitar classes thanks to the Songbirds Foundation! Thanks so much for helping us keep music education thriving in Chattanooga!
I always did prefer the more vintage and local guitar stores because it was just a mystery waiting to be unraveled. Something about the uniqueness is quite magical.
For sure.. I found my favorite les paul special in a small local shop in my area.. I later found out that it was built on the day I was born.. how bout that for fate.
So many 60's and 70's songs had sitar solos. One of my favorites is BJ Thomas "Hooked On A Feeling", and one of the most used in commercials is Pat Metheny's "Last Train Home". In concert he plays an old Silvertone electric sitar. That's one of the few guitars I've never owned, but now, you've inspired me to look for one. That one looks like it's not as much of a maintenance nightmare as the old ones.
Coral Sitar is the famous one from the ‘60s, with the extra harp strings, but there’s also their “Baby” model that looks like this, but still has that sitar sound.
That may have been the last popular song with electric sitar, and it was "after the wave." The previous one I recall was "Come And Get You Love" and that was about three years earlier.
Thanks for your time. Instantly made a donation to songbirds young children need music. My high school by the time we came around had threw em in a messy dusty pile in the corner of the gym balcony and without my mother enrolling me in the summer program to clean the school to reduce the tuition cost I would of never seen how music programs in school were done away with. Music is very important, and instruments were always my own personal Mr. Miyagi. With that said an early introduction in a teaching environment is necessary. Peace.
I believe that's pretty much how these are designed, afaik the saddles are designed in such a way to make them buzz out in order to imitate the sound of a sitar
Interesting choice. I don’t have a sitar, but I know how to make my guitar sound like one. I saw Joe Satriani do it in an instructional video back in the day using the heel of the palm on the strings. It’s difficult for me to do with any consistency, but it works.🤘🏻🎸
Yeah this was a pretty cool video dude. I hoped that when you did the "Paint it Black" intro that you would've gone into the rushing sound of the chords but maybe next time. Also for Sitar learn "Angie" and its variant progressions, that would be really cool to listen to and show.
Well this is absolutely awesome man good for you Tyler and that's pretty cool that you donated some money also those kids will definitely appreciate it how cool love you man keep on rockin brother love everything you do

The only place we have here in fresno California is a small guitar center and a couple small pawn shops that never have any guitars and if they do they are always garbage. I know some places dont even have a GC so i should be grateful but still man. Those shops he always goes to always make so jealous

You ever tried the Yamaha Revstar Rs320? My mom's ordered one, I'm really grateful that she did, along with the Fender Mustang LT50 (there were no LT25s on Mannys and there was a 1k spending limit).
Thanks for showcasing a guitar sound that appeared in every 60's psychedelic tune! In hearing those songs back then I aways thought it was some instrument from India. Whereas, the guitar in this video gives the same vibe but looks just like a standard run of the mill electric guitar. Did you get the chance to see how the guitar was wired to ge that unique sound? Thanks for sharing!
It's all in the bridge, a kind of flat nut under the strings that they buzz against, creating that sound. Not sure how it compares to how an actual sitar bridge is made.
You hands down are one of the best musicians I have heard on here , your sitar performance at the end was played with such perfection and feeling I felt it in my soul, that was excellent
i once had a guitar that sounded alike. Had to adjust the neck😁 But very cool choice. The crazier the instrument, the more the fun. Creativity knows no boundaries and never should!
really sounds nice, i remember a lot of groups in the late 60's would have that sitar sound in some of their songs and i wasn't sure how they got it. brings ya back.
Nice! If case you you don't know (as I didn't know until recently), the main guitar riff in Red Bone's "Come And Get Your Love" is played on a electric sitar. Maybe that will inspire a video!
I've been watching for a bit and there is no denying your talent. I only wish I had a tenth of it just to play basic guitar. In the mean time, I'll be informed and entertained by folks like you. Today, you took it over the top and I'm now a Subscriber. 🙂 And all this because of algorithms and an innocent attempt to paint something for an Eddy Van Halen fan. And, I succeeded. For now, I'll stick with my painting but will be watching you.
its its never too late to pick up a guitar its more simple than you think. the problem is getting your hands to do what you want. but trust me anyone can do it with practice. music hits different when you play along with it.
Hey, Heavy Art, it worked the same when I took up painting. Once I took the step, laid some paint on, and ignored my fears and excuses, I am now an artist. Gonna be a toss up between drums or a guitar. Shucks, I'm still young enough, I'll learn BOTH! 😄 Thanks for the encouraging words. I believe you.
Awesome man :) I think that maybe a bigger/fatter gauge strings would have a huge impact on the sound of this thing. It would probably sound even more awesome :)
That sitar is absolutely bitching. Such a dynamic instrument that is underused. I am surprised people don't use it in the bridge or interlude of a song.

This now my favorite video on this channel for a few reasons: 1) Sitar 2) the obligatory “Wherever I May Roam” intro. 3) the Tom Sawyer riff (seems Tyler has been listening to rush more recently) 4) the facial expressions during the Sitar solo near the end of the video.
