In 2015 I took up the guitar at 44 years old. Marty taught me chords and ton of songs. I think the first was Everlong on an acoustic. First time I tuned to Drop D.
Yes but- there are times when I gravitate to Marty, and times when I’m more in the mood for Tyler. It’s about choosing which tool works best in that moment. They are both great. Not sure if Tyler has really done anything to deserve being placed on the other end of that spectrum, I think it just appears that way when he’s sitting across from the nicest guitar teacher ever.
i didn't appreciate how good a player marty is until now, i always associated him with pumping out lessons of simple songs really quickly. he's far more tasteful than i'll probably ever be
Michael J Fox playing Johnny B Goode made me want to learn guitar. Marty taught me almost everything I’ve ever learned on guitar. And still after 3-4 years over knowing guitar I still find myself going to Marty for tutorials and tips
I'm still a beginner/intermediate player, but Marty was there for me from the start, and it was his lessons that helped me push forward through the growing pains. Justin also played a big role, and these days I'm also a fan of Ryan Lendt and Guitar Zero to Hero. With all these excellent resources, this is a fantastic time to pick up the instrument.
Marty is a good guitarist and a good teacher. Great place to start. Tyler is what you aspire to be. The difference is readily apparent as they were trading licks and reminiscing about their beginnings. Tyler is just so professional.
You guys are f*****g awesome. By far both Marty and Tyler are my favorite teachers I have found on RUclips and who I go to 99% of the time I'm looking for something to learn. Yall are amazing teachers, you make it fun and enjoyable. I love that yall got together and made a video. Hope yall make yalls way down to New Orleans sometime, I would love to see yall live one day, much love and respect for yall.
I really like “The Guitar Factory” channel as well as both of you guys. He’s a much, much smaller channel but he definitely deserves the same viewership and base. Thanks to all three of you guys!
After a lifetime of playing piano and sax, I picked up guitar in my fifties, and I started with Marty and Ultimate Guitar. Now I'm helping my daughter get started with her first guitar by pointing her to Marty's videos. Keep teaching and spreading the word.
James James has always been my first choice to check out a song he helped me get over the hump and I have copied his style of playing, he helped me understand that a song can be played many ways but his best peace of advice that helped me most (and it sounds obvious) is learn a song from beginning to the end and everything in-between. Thank you James I miss you
I'm from a small country town in Australia and Marty has taught me so much over the years (I'm still a hack) but I enjoy playing so much. I started with tab books in the 90's and now with RUclips it's so good to be able to look anything up and learn it. Thanks guys. (And a shout out to Steve Stine)
Robbie Robertson of The Band was a master of pinch harmonics! His playing influenced me greatly. I remember once when I was a guitar salesman a young customer asked me what pickups were best for pinch harmonics, I grabbed an acoustic guitar and showed him it was all in the thumb and no pickups were needed. You don’t need a lot of gain
I’m 56 now. Started playing professionally in the 80’s. I’ve been studying saxophone lines recently. I thought about “Careless Whisper” and thought I bet Marty has a lesson, and he did.
I’d been playing guitar for about 40 plus years and I came across Marty’s videos a decade ago and he showed me some stuff that I didn’t know, you never stop learning. Much respect.
Marty is a multidimensional being, some type of guitar god that exist in every universe. The moment you even think about playing guitar he pops up in your feed.
Sweet! You guys definitely rock as teachers and more so as players. Theory, hands down, is you Ty, I have been playing for many decades and never thought I'd need to know theory, you proved me wrong, and while I am no longer subscribed to your lesson plans, I learned a wealth of the nuts and bolts of guitar playing theory from you. Marty simply rocks, he has become a household name in guitar lessons, not selling you short, you rock as well. Thanks for making this video.
no joke. i've been playing this crazy six stringed instrument for about 4 years now and when i started playing at 13, marty was (and still is) literally my best friend
Marty, you, Beato, Mike from Art of Guitar - while I 100% think I tend to lose focus off internet learning vs in person, I also love that you guys all bring your skills and knowledge to us all and I for sure have benefited from so many of your videos overall.
Genuinely wild how I was when learning stuff from him compared to now when I’m learning stuff that the me from that era could never even see coming, thank you Marty.
Marty is especially the best for the lower intermediate to beginner because I think he takes into account the dexterity and experience is not there yet for that group. He will teach many songs without the true chord voicing and will substitute easier chords that work well enough thus, getting more people playing quicker. He will also leave out some of the actual fluff played in the originals to also accommodate that group.
Your videos made me want to try to learn again properly at 34. A year later, I can't put my guitar down! Guitar super system alongside Justin guitar, and a sprinkling of Marty
First (and still only) song that I learned the whole thing was “Wish You Were Here” I learned from Marty. Learned the main riff for “Histeria” from Tyler. My son learned from Marty while I was in Iraq with the Army on an Epiphone SG that I got him for his birthday. He’s now about to turn 29 and a pretty good guitarist.
Marty #1 years ago and still today. Carl at 365, John MacLennan and Justin. Top ones for song breakdowns when I'm stuck or lazy (most the time)to learn tune quickly for our band.
Just the name of his page 'you can learn guitar' made me believe I could actually learn even when it felt impossible and that feeling of knowing that there were other persons that felt like me is what motivated me to persist
Marty is not only the best guitar teacher, he is one of the best teachers, period. I use a lot of what I learned from Marty in my teaching and it has nothing to do with guitar. First off, show what you plan to teach in the beginning, then break it down and practice until you sound like Marty.
when people ask me who taught me, I tell them Marty Schwartz. and his first videos were just a few months before i started so i lucked out.. i dont think i would of kept with it without him .
Marty's awesome, and so is Justin Sandercoe 🇦🇺 and Carl Brown and Chris Sherland and Ian Stich. Us guitarist wannabes are very lucky to have such a deep pool of great teachers available whenever we want. Thanks guys 🙏
"People want to skip all the steps and go right to the Through The Fire And Flames" - THAT'S SO TRUE LOL, definitely me when i was starting electric guitar
Marty certainly has helped the lions share of internet students but I will add that you, and Justin, and so many others have certainly had an impact as well and we as students of guitar, appreciate it.
Definitely a big ass pie to share for all the online guitar teachers. I watch a ton of guitar content, I love watching Marty when I want to just learn a song quick, Music is Win is hilarious, Justin Guitar was the first one I found and he taught me the basics, I really like Michael Palmisano these days for the way he explains theory, Mary Spender because she is awesome and I have a crush on her, and so many more. Thank you guys for doing what you do, I would probably still suck hard on a guitar without you guys.
Nice. I have spent so much time with you two over the past 3 years. Thank you. Im still a shitty guitarist though. . It's that 10,000 hour thing. Practice, practice, practice. I probably have another decade to go before I really become proficient with the instrument. Bless up fellas.
To paraphrase Talladega Nights, “[Marty]… simply the best there is. Wakes up and pisses excellence” 😂😂. But for real, Marty is such a great teacher and player. I started learning to play guitar at the age of 19 during one of Canada’s many Covid lockdowns and if it wasn’t for him I probably would have given up trying to learn how to play guitar. He made it so easy to learn and gather the basics and made it feel okay to not get it the riff or song right the first time you play it. Marty Schwartz is a legend and an icon in the RUclips guitar community and rightfully so!
Yep, if I need to learn how to play a song the first person I try to find teaching it is Marty. And if I can't find a video of Marty's showing it, I'm bummed, and sometimes will just give up for the moment !
This was one of the best videos of any kind I've watched in quite awhile. I've learned so much from both of you over the years! Thanks for inspiring more and more to play!
Which guitar teacher have you learned the most from? I want NAMES! This community rocks.
Guitarlessons365
Andy Guitar is a underrated guitar teacher.
You Mr Tyler honestly you started my guitar journey I
Mr Tabs, Marty, and you!
Simon Morel is really good as well!
I love the kindred spirits line… we definitely all are.. 🤘🤘🤘
CARL!!!
Thank you
Next is Marty and Guitar365 collab💪
You rock man!!
i didn't know goats could type
Love your work Carl👍🇳🇿
Sensei, hope you're well!
Marty single handedly taught me how to play guitar
Marty uses two hands actually
@@jacobroth4624 forgot about that sorry
Marty saved my cat in a house fire
Where was his other hand????
Bro I'm pretty sure you need two hands to play guitar
I remember learning Green Day songs through Marty’s videos like 9 years ago…I feel old now
The Collab we needed but didn't ask for
In 2015 I took up the guitar at 44 years old. Marty taught me chords and ton of songs. I think the first was Everlong on an acoustic. First time I tuned to Drop D.
That was the best pinch harmonics mini lesson I think I've ever heard Tyler! Very easy to follow.
Leave it to Tyler to make the entire intro about him with a side of Marty Schwartz. Love you, Marty, no ego, just pure talent and love for music.
No kidding, said the same thing.
I knew I wasn't the only who caught that
I always got such opposite vibes from tyler and marty
Yes but- there are times when I gravitate to Marty, and times when I’m more in the mood for Tyler. It’s about choosing which tool works best in that moment. They are both great. Not sure if Tyler has really done anything to deserve being placed on the other end of that spectrum, I think it just appears that way when he’s sitting across from the nicest guitar teacher ever.
Marty and Carl Brown are the GOATs
100% Marty got my foot in the door now when I REALLY wanna get into the nitty gritty, Carl brown all the way!
Carl is definetly the GOAT!!!
"May the Schwatz be Wit You" - Mel Brooks, Spaveballs!
Crazy. You, Marty, and GuitarLessons365 are definitely the guys who made me grow as a guitar player.
i didn't appreciate how good a player marty is until now, i always associated him with pumping out lessons of simple songs really quickly. he's far more tasteful than i'll probably ever be
When guitarist tell that they're "self taught", They're lairs
Marty. Taught. EVERYONE
Thank you Marty.
i can vouch for this
Guilty as charged.
That is incorrect. Ive never heard of any of you, this was put into my feed. Im also 40yo blues player
I've never watched a single lesson of his for more than 30 seconds. He didn't teach everyone cause I haven't learned anything from Marty.
@@mauser8515we’re talking about young people unc.
Michael J Fox playing Johnny B Goode made me want to learn guitar. Marty taught me almost everything I’ve ever learned on guitar. And still after 3-4 years over knowing guitar I still find myself going to Marty for tutorials and tips
Can confirm. Playing guitar off and on for 20 years and still come back to Marty's videos to refresh myself with a song I've not played in many years.
Two of my YT favorites in one room together! So cool. That was awesome. Thanks to both of you for teaching me more than you could ever imagine.

Marty Schwartz and Andy Guitar were invaluable resources in my first few weeks and months of guitar. Love to see him getting the love he deserves
I think Marty was the first RUclipsr I ever subscribed to.
James James has always been my first choice to check out a song he helped me get over the hump and I have copied his style of playing, he helped me understand that a song can be played many ways but his best peace of advice that helped me most (and it sounds obvious) is learn a song from beginning to the end and everything in-between.
Thank you James I miss you
Miss JJ as well! Great channel …. Started with Marty and GuitarJamz myself
What happened to him?? He had a sick guitar collection. I swear every video had a different high-end guitar.
One day i hope to play 'girl from the north country 1963 version ' like Jimmy Jimmy. He has it down.
I love both these guys, and it warms my heart to listen to them chat and reminisce on their journeys to where they are
I’ve been playing guitar for 50 years but I’ve learned more from Marty in the last 5 years than the previous 45. Thanks for all you do Marty 👍

We all owe him so much. Literally one of the greatest guys on yt out here making lessons fun and easy.
Marty helped me to understand how Jimi Hendrix wrote Little wing. Than it was easier to understand Axis bold as love. Thank you Marty 🎸
I’m 56 now. Started playing professionally in the 80’s. I’ve been studying saxophone lines recently. I thought about “Careless Whisper” and thought I bet Marty has a lesson, and he did.
Listening to that first jam shows where most of the RUclips guitar warriors learn their basics. Marty "the source" Schwartz!
Marty was there when I started playing. I watched his videos and now, I know how to play guitar and I love it. Thanks Marty
I’m a student also of Marty’s videos since the very beginning of YT. Thank you both for all the knowledge your sharing with us \m/
I’d been playing guitar for about 40 plus years and I came across Marty’s videos a decade ago and he showed me some stuff that I didn’t know, you never stop learning. Much respect.

Man this was great. I'm surprised this collaboration didn’t create a singularity of the Guitar Tube universe and end the world.
no joke. i've been playing this crazy six stringed instrument for about 4 years now and when i started playing at 13, marty was (and still is) literally my best friend
The intro, "Hey, what's up you guys, Marty Schwartz here with Marty music" will always be iconic
Great interview. I’m an older beginner who started 2 years ago with Marty’s one finger riffs lesson.
Wow! The Little Wing at the end was great!
Epic collab
it's cool that Marty is happy with teaching ppl beginner stuff. I looked up Rumble and he came up straight away :)
My earliest forays into RUclips years and years ago was watching Marty . He's a legend and I'm still subscribed.
Marty taught me probably my first only cool songs about 10 years ago. "Blackbird" and "Comfortably Numb"...as well as all the chords...lol.
Marty, Privettricker /James James, Carl Brown, Justn and many more.....thanks for sharing your talents!
Marty, you, Beato, Mike from Art of Guitar - while I 100% think I tend to lose focus off internet learning vs in person, I also love that you guys all bring your skills and knowledge to us all and I for sure have benefited from so many of your videos overall.
Literally learned everything from Marty. Love that guy!
Genuinely wild how I was when learning stuff from him compared to now when I’m learning stuff that the me from that era could never even see coming, thank you Marty.
Definitely watched marty videos for SUUUURE hes everywhere
Learned my pentatonic scale/ blues scale from Marty!
this is the best collaboration ever
I was mainly a rhythm player but after seeing this one Marty video showing a couple cool Blues type riffs I was able to wade into some soloing
Justin is my og guitar teacher. Marty is my first stop when I want to learn a song though.

Bro, the face when ur playing no more tears and pinching...so 🤘⚡🤘
Love how it instantly morphed into two musicians relating to each other by improvising. So fun to watch.
It’s cool seeing you guys in a video together. 😎 ✌🏼

Marty has taught me guitar...Well he did his best. For sure he shows up with his best sounding guitar. Classic. Great video as always. Cheers!

Marty is the man! I still go to his lessons when I want to learn something fast.
I play music for a living now and it’s because of this man.
Marty certainly has helped the lions share of internet students but I will add that you, and Justin, and so many others have certainly had an impact as well and we as students of guitar, appreciate it.
Can’t even begin to describe how much Marty has taught me! Dude is seriously a legend in the guitar world!
This is the greatest crossover I never knew I needed
Jack Black will come if he reads this
Really enjoying these interviews where you talk a bit and then break out in a jam.

This is Awesome seeing my two favourite guitars RUclips guys together 💪🏻❤️
Marty's got the Perry the platypus hat and he's fuckin rockin it too
You guys both rock! This was a really awesome sit down video. Thank you both for all the lessons.
Marty is the reason I was able to get into guitar in the beginning 🙏
Nice. I have spent so much time with you two over the past 3 years. Thank you. Im still a shitty guitarist though. . It's that 10,000 hour thing. Practice, practice, practice. I probably have another decade to go before I really become proficient with the instrument. Bless up fellas.
Awesome collab and great jams guys!
Yes Carl at guitar 365 was my best.

Thanks lads - really enjoyed your interesting and uplifting chat...
I have learned a lot from Marty over the years. I even purchased his music theory course as a great review reference. Marty is the Man.
Marty Schwartz was my first guitar teacher in a way. I learned so much from him👍🏼🔥
You two jamming brought a reflexive smile to my face I didn’t even know was happening.
You named all three of my first RUclipsr teachers! Great video
I've been asking for you 2 to jam together for EVER!!!! you need Steve Terreberry for the ultimate 3 band.
Marty is freaking awesome. You two are my favorite guitarists on RUclips!
marty is such a legend
Yep, if I need to learn how to play a song the first person I try to find teaching it is Marty. And if I can't find a video of Marty's showing it, I'm bummed, and sometimes will just give up for the moment !
what a legendary collab
It's interesting to hear guitarists speak about their beginnings I guess always assumed they had all the benefits of lessons mentors classes etc
This was one of the best videos of any kind I've watched in quite awhile. I've learned so much from both of you over the years! Thanks for inspiring more and more to play!
If Marty had a tutorial for that song, I’m learning that song.
Such a good sesh with Marty such dope guy....I'm loving these interviews lately bro
Okay...this was so cool & fun => this should be a new channel The Marty & Tyler Extravaganza Hour! 🎸
Always loved Marty’s films and lesson. His funk guitar lesson is fire
