Yeah, Marty is great for a bit more simplified version of the song, but if you want to learn it exact, Carl pretty much nails it everytime. Both are excellent.
There are so many quality resources out there these days. I've made twice the progress (still not very good lol) in the last two years by watching RUclips lessons than I had in the past ten years.

Marty definitely was/is my primary online teacher for over 15 years. Also met him in person at a show a few years ago. Such a super, down-to-earth dude and great sense of humor. May the Schwartz be with all of you! 🤘🏼
"Why do we subject ourselves to the barred chord" is such a true sentiment when i was just learning. I kinda wished that triads were put in my early "just play chords" training.
+1 on the triad thing. As far as barre chords, I’m glad I was taught them early on, despite the hand cramps lol. Also one that I think that gets overlooked or people just go straight to a RUclips tutorial is using your ear to figure things out. When I started you had the recording of a song, maybe a tab and your ear. People would be surprised the amount of songs they can learn by using your ear and moving around the fretboard.
Marty is especially the best for the lower intermediate to beginner because I think he takes into account the dexterity and experience is not there yet for that group. He will teach many songs without the true chord voicing and will substitute easier chords that work well enough thus, getting more people playing quicker. He will also leave out some of the actual fluff played in the originals to also accommodate that group.
No no!! This video can’t be over! Listening to you guys talk, then Jam, talk, jam! The time went too fast! I couldn’t believe it when I seen this post pop up! I thoroughly enjoyed the interview! I’ve learned a lot from the both of you!
Marty is not only the best guitar teacher, he is one of the best teachers, period. I use a lot of what I learned from Marty in my teaching and it has nothing to do with guitar. First off, show what you plan to teach in the beginning, then break it down and practice until you sound like Marty.
In 2015 I took up the guitar at 44 years old. Marty taught me chords and ton of songs. I think the first was Everlong on an acoustic. First time I tuned to Drop D.
Yes but- there are times when I gravitate to Marty, and times when I’m more in the mood for Tyler. It’s about choosing which tool works best in that moment. They are both great. Not sure if Tyler has really done anything to deserve being placed on the other end of that spectrum, I think it just appears that way when he’s sitting across from the nicest guitar teacher ever.
After a lifetime of playing piano and sax, I picked up guitar in my fifties, and I started with Marty and Ultimate Guitar. Now I'm helping my daughter get started with her first guitar by pointing her to Marty's videos. Keep teaching and spreading the word.
i didn't appreciate how good a player marty is until now, i always associated him with pumping out lessons of simple songs really quickly. he's far more tasteful than i'll probably ever be
I really like “The Guitar Factory” channel as well as both of you guys. He’s a much, much smaller channel but he definitely deserves the same viewership and base. Thanks to all three of you guys!
I owe Marty for a lot of my ability to play guitar. First stumbled on to him when I was 19…now I’m 34. He always makes learning fun and interesting. I can’t thank him enough. I still buy his courses just because I love Marty.
I'm still a beginner/intermediate player, but Marty was there for me from the start, and it was his lessons that helped me push forward through the growing pains. Justin also played a big role, and these days I'm also a fan of Ryan Lendt and Guitar Zero to Hero. With all these excellent resources, this is a fantastic time to pick up the instrument.
First (and still only) song that I learned the whole thing was “Wish You Were Here” I learned from Marty. Learned the main riff for “Histeria” from Tyler. My son learned from Marty while I was in Iraq with the Army on an Epiphone SG that I got him for his birthday. He’s now about to turn 29 and a pretty good guitarist.
Michael J Fox playing Johnny B Goode made me want to learn guitar. Marty taught me almost everything I’ve ever learned on guitar. And still after 3-4 years over knowing guitar I still find myself going to Marty for tutorials and tips
I can remember a handful of times when I was in a pinch to learn some material for a gig I went on his channel and got a quick lesson. Invaluable at the time
I’m 56 now. Started playing professionally in the 80’s. I’ve been studying saxophone lines recently. I thought about “Careless Whisper” and thought I bet Marty has a lesson, and he did.
Marty is a good guitarist and a good teacher. Great place to start. Tyler is what you aspire to be. The difference is readily apparent as they were trading licks and reminiscing about their beginnings. Tyler is just so professional.

To paraphrase Talladega Nights, “[Marty]… simply the best there is. Wakes up and pisses excellence” 😂😂. But for real, Marty is such a great teacher and player. I started learning to play guitar at the age of 19 during one of Canada’s many Covid lockdowns and if it wasn’t for him I probably would have given up trying to learn how to play guitar. He made it so easy to learn and gather the basics and made it feel okay to not get it the riff or song right the first time you play it. Marty Schwartz is a legend and an icon in the RUclips guitar community and rightfully so!
This video warms my heart in many ways. Marty is a class act and super humble. I love the “tasty jam between pals”. Does anyone know how Tyler gets that incredible tone @ 21:00??

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Your Guitar Sage. I've been around a long time taking in the wisdom of these online masters. And while I'm a huge fan of Mary's since his beginnings, I think Yourguitarsage was the first one I saw. His earliest video dates back 17 years to 2007. I've seen all the ones mentioned in other posts and I think I've learned at least a song from each and every one. I thank you all. Keep up the fantastic work for all the aspiring guitarists.
Marty Schwartz is always my immediate go to for any tune- and luckilly he has a hell of a lot of them. Mazel Tov Marty.
Bro, the face when ur playing no more tears and pinching...so 🤘⚡🤘
To paraphrase Talladega Nights, “[Marty]… simply the best there is.
