For $1200, it’s not a bad laptop considering everything that you get. I like the clear webcam quality as well as the internal mic. It would have been even better if it had an RTX 4050 GPU but as Andrew stated it, they had no choice but to go with the RTX 3050 due to thermal considerations. All and all, a nice laptop for all of your productivity work and a laptop that won’t break the bank! Thank you Andrew for another stellar review!! 👏😁

The 4050 is actually more efficient than the 3050, according to Jarrod's Tech. Also, according to Notebookcheck Reviews, there are going to be 4050 versions of this computer, using 55 watts, instead of the 58 watts for the 3050. There are going to be R5-7640 HS and R7-7840 HS releases, so the 4050 will probably be paired with these higher end versions, which will be using AMD's new Zen4, 4 nm technology. The R7 7735 HS is using the same 6 nm technology of last year's AMD 6000 series.

@@emergenthub305 Yes, exactly. This laptop has a max TGP of 60W and a RTX 4050 60W could have been so much better than what it has. However, one thing to point out, this has the RTX 3050 2023 refresh with 6GB video memory which is more powerful than the 4GB version and even slightly better than RTX 3050 Ti in demanding games. This 6GB refresh is basically a RTX 3050 Ti GPU die with reduced 96 Bit memory bus from 128 Bit but 6GB of GDDR6 memory compared to 4GB in 3050/Ti models.

@@123Suryasis Yes, I know, but a MUX switch and advanced optimus allow you to get the full benefit of the discrete GPU on systems that have optimus, otherwise you have to deal with a hit in GPU performance, due to inefficiencies caused by graphic intensive tasks being processed by the CPU before they reach the discrete GPU. In games, this can reduce FPS by up to 30% and responsiveness by up to 50%, according to Jarrod's Tech.

Nice PC. Camera was okay and mics sounded clear. This machine is not meant to be an all powerful unit. It is a good choice for a student or someone who uses basic applications. To put in a more powerful GPU would probably require a larger power brick and then might need a barrel connector. This would add more weight and size to the unit as well as cooling issues which this unit was obviously not designed for. Keyboard looks good. Port selection is good. If this unit does not meet an individual's needs there are plenty of other laptops out there by Lenovo and other manufacturers to choose from. Andrew's function is to show and review these units so followers of the channel can watch these reviews and make an intelligent decision when buying a laptop. Great review.

For me personally I just have an issue with the weight getting heavier and heavier. this is supposed to replace the 14.5" Slim Pro X which was 3.2 lb this one is now 3.68 lb! it's really not an ultrabook anymore. I've gone through thoroughly across the lenovo specification product reference of both the versions and it seems they are exactly identical apart from the intel one having the gtx 4050 and I'm thinking not to get the 4050 as it doesn't really help much in gaming as this is not a proper gaming laptop. But on the lower performance setting, just as good as the ASUS 14 with the 7030U AMD CPU. For sure if doing heavy video or image work it will eat the battery faster than a U but I do that with a monitor at a desk. A bit heavy at 3.5 lbs. but the lightest I could find with a graphics card and an HS CPU.

This is basically the 2022 model with 2 major weaknesses fixed. They add HDMI (which only the intel model had in 2022) and you get a USB 4 port (which many thought they would upgrade the FW of the 2022 model to get but the motherboard never had it wred correctly). I have had both the Intel and AMD 2022 versions of this laptop. I preferred the AMD version so with the fixes (HDMI/USB 4) its even better. However, expect it to perform identical to the 2022 6900HS model as the processor here is a rebranded version with a very slight clock increase. It really is a great laptop though I may hold out to see if they offer it with a 7x40 series processor and a 4050 nvidia graphics card

Yes, there are going to be R5 7640 and R7 7840 versions, with 4050 graphics, according to Notebookcheck Review. This R7 7735 HS model looks like a slight downgrade from last year's 6900 HS version. It has a few improvements with HDMI and USB 4.0, though these existed on last year's Intel equivalent. It also has curved keys, which are better than the flat keys from last year. However, it has slightly lower performance, lower screen resolution and replaces the 120Hz screen for a 90Hz one.

    • @russellmm

@@emergenthub305 you are right, they did lower the screen from 120h to 90h that is probably why the laptop seems a little cheaper than I would have expected. Basically they only want you to be allowed to buy it from them at time of purchase so they not a third party can make that profit.

If you take a look at the YT channel NorthRidgeFix, those guys do amazing repair work but it comes at a cost. That said, I write this on a ThinkPad W530 with 32GB and I still use daily my ThinkPad W510 (these are the some of the last IBM designed ThinkPads and are clearly amazing, highly serviceable and upgradable). The 4 SODIMM slots on these allowed me to get 32GB on a system 10+ years ago and I've never had any issues with the RAM (My brother still runs his architectural business on a 32GB W510 I gave him about 10 years ago). I've had an X1 Carbon (gave it away 6 years and still works) and two X1 Yoga's (both have 16GB soldered)--all used for work. I just gave the first X1 Yoga away this week. I've never worried about the soldered RAM beyond wishing I could have had a slotted option to upgrade beyond 16GB. Honestly, don't worry about it for reliability but just realise it's not upgradable and that can limit the useful life of a system (so probably don't buy the 8GB option if they have one). Honestly, I've only used ThinkPads (the business line) and so I can't comment on the life you can expect from such a system (Lenovo but not a ThinkPad) but personally, I'd be disappointed to get less than 5 years, especially if you look after it. I have replaced a battery on the later X1 Yoga and a screen on the previous one (my fault as I'd fitted one of those stick on camera privacy sliders and slammed the screen closed...cracked). I'd bought the earlier X1 Yoga from an auction site as non-functional and just needed to fit a new SSD to make it work. Spoke to the new owner yesterday and he's thrilled with it but may also replace the battery on that down the track. I'm waiting to see the ThinkPad models that come with the new Zen 4 AMD CPU--the 3rd digit tells you this is a Zen 3 based processor and not the latest (still very good)--I wont buy Intel ever again as AMD offer better performance and efficiency IMHO.

Every Laptop that has soldered RAM besides a MacBook, since it's basically an SOC, is DOA imo. Why produce these gorgeous machines and then make them guaranteed e-waste/massively shorten the lifespan by soldering RAM. F that greed.

Have to include MacBook as well as it has soldered ram. Even worse soldered SSD. Let’s be consistent

@@andrewmarcdavid That's why I excluded the MacBook, since it's an SOC, where the CPU and RAM are architecturally not separable.
I agree with you on the SSD though, storage should NEVER be soldered.
