i'm 63 years old, and regardless of all the things age takes away from you, i am SOOOOO grateful to have lived in a time that had so much incredible music, on the radio, every day...!!!!!
As a child of the 70’s, I was so excited when music streaming started collecting all these great “Soft Rock Classics” and put them in a channel called Yacht Rock. I couldn’t careless what the channel was called…I was thankful I could push play and have all this classic greatness. I don’t understand all the hate on the channel’s name…who cares? Just enjoy!
Wow, I had forgotten this song, and I always thought it was the Doobie Bros or the Stevw Miller Band. My mom used to listen to the 70s station (in the 80s), so I recognize it from there.
Love me some ARS. The album Champagne Jam is a must for any 70's music collector. " Not Gonna Let it Bother me Tonight," and" Imaginary Lover" are their big hits off that album. "Spooky" is actually their cover version of Cobb's and Buie's 1968 Classics IV hit.
Ronnie Hammond was an amazing singer and ARS was criminally underrated. I saw them many times and they were just as wonderful live. Unfortunately, Ronnie Hammond died of heart failure at the age of 60, March 15, 2011. RIP, Ronnie. You are missed.
I moved to middle Georgia in the early 1970s. It was the days when you could see the Allman Brothers walking around downtown Macon, the days of Capricorn Records, Elvin Bishop, Mussel Shoals and Southern Rock was king. It seems like an eternity has passed since then...
The funny thing about Spooky - ARS did a cover of it in 78, but some of the members were in the band that did it originally in the 60s- Classics 4. Kinda like the same band had the same hit twice lol
They were a BIG deal in the 70s and early 80s. They have a song Champagne Jam that was so huge that they formed a weekend-long concert with the same name, here in Atlanta. I was too young to go, but my brother went and there were many great bands that played at The Champagne Jam. Their guitarists kind of have a Jazzy sound, as well. Ronnie Hammond was a great front man. Yeah, Ronnie was a Georgia boy, from Macon.
Another fun reaction. How about hearing some wildly successful TV theme songs? Hill Street Blues and Rockford Files were massive radio hits. Boy, did we have some great TV theme show writers/arrangers in our day. Some Big Time rockers have talked about being impressed and influenced. Someone wrote a song in honor of one of those writers. (Maybe one of the Pink Floyd guys? On one of his solo albums, I think.) And you MUST hear the movie theme songs like Shaft by Isaac Hayes (part of the "Philadelphia Sound"). Fantasyic. And then there are the Curtis Mayfield hits from the movie Superfly. Like the song Superfly, and Pusherman. And then that last song always reminds me of Billy Womack's song, "Across 110th Street", which Tarrantino loved enough to make it play for the opening credits/airport scene, for his fantastic movie, Jackie Brown. I'll never forget being at a bus stop in my not-good neighborhood about 2 years ago, after dark, and a man had in his ear buds and he was belting out "Across 110th Street" (by Bobby Womack), his head back and literally howling it to the moon. I envied the freedom he gave to himself, and I loved it, even off-key. I got home and played it for myself right away. ( We have it all here. That street where the bus stop is, can be populated with the working ladies... sometimes quite visible, sometimes they stick to side streets where truckers are parked. Las Vegas. My setting suits the song👍.)
J.R.Cobb recorded Spooky in 1967 with The Classics IV then Became a member of ARS in '72 and rerecorded it with them, was Guitarist on both versions....check out original. also did Stormy with Classics IV, another great song, later covered by Santana...
Wife Speaking ..One of the best "Urban Night Sounds" bands EVER!!!..Or people call it soft rock...The "jazzy" instrumentation, lyrics, ,voice..Just sensual perfection!!!..."Baby Making music" for sure..I'm getting in the mood just hearing you guys talking about it!!..You REALLY need to do their song Imaginary Lover.."
The 1970's was a treasure trove of what would be called 'easy rock.' While Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were pushing the envelope of hard rock, radio friendly pop rock started implementing elements of R&B and using organ melodies over guitar riffs. It was still rock and roll, it just opted for a more relaxed, summertime vibe. It's hard to find anyone in Gen X who doesn't have a nostalgic connection to this music because it was literally on almost every radio when they were growing up. Much of it still holds up due to impeccable production, simple melodic hooks and a talent pool that didn't rely on auto-tune to sing the correct notes, in the right keys.
As an older Gen Xer who grew up in the 70s/80s, it makes me so happy to see you guys being so knowledgeable about the music from this golden era. So fun to watch and you're keeping good music alive. Thank you!!
This was one of my favorite songs but I did'nt know the name of the band...when it came on the radio I would blast it...great reaction.....How about The Eagles "One of These Nights"?
Holding On To Yesterday by Ambrosia. The studio is good. If you want something different, they did a simulcast with some FM station live. The video is not great, but because of simulcast the sound is really good. You get to watch David Pack and the rest of them do their harmonies. DO THIS ONE!
Been listening to this over 40 years, I'm 60, in Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺, love you guys reactions, Low down was so funny, best pick me up video on RUclips. I play this some times at BJJ. Take care guys bring it.
Love all of you, you are just adorbs. "So Into You" by Fabolous and Tamia! (Close, Ryan, Ashanti is great, too) is a jam! This song hit and got so much play on the airwaves back in the day. Glad that you brought it back for some repeat enjoyment. Keep doing your thing and sending out good vibes. We appreciate you!
Damn you guys made this old 77 yr old lady get her ass up and dance! Damn i really dug that song! WAA hooooo.... 🔥drove my hubby crazy.... Cuz I danced all over the house.... 😅😅😅😅
So much fun watching the 3 of you all hear a good song for the first time. I’ll echo everyone else. Imaginary Lover (talk about a baby-makin’ playlist song) and Champagne Jam are great, too. Southern Rock is just so stinkin’ good. I hope we haven’t lost the fantastic Flirtin’ With Disaster. Is it out of jail yet?
ARS are among the gods of Rock n' Roll!!! One of my all-time favorite Rock bands that pioneered the genre "Blue-eyed Soul' music which would later be enhanced by Hall & Oates and other bands.....very underrated Rock band....But this group, Allman Brothers, and Steely Dan created and pioneered, "Blue-eyed Soul." Excellent reactions!!!!! I requested this song 11 months ago....Glad you guys enjoyed it!!! I have their CD....I will find some more music from ARS for you guys to react to. Grea reactions guys!!! Love seeing you guys get excited about great music!!!
I *respectfully* disagree. Not saying that ARS didn’t use soulful accents in their music (I only know their few Top 40 hits) but as an R&B head, I’ve never heard ARS mentioned/cited in the ‘blue-eyed soul’ convo. Hall & Oates? Most definitely. (Btw, “Sara Smile” came out 1 yr *before* “So Into You” and “Sara Smile” is considered a ‘blue-eyed soul’ classic.) Other frequent ‘blue-eyed soul’ names incl Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and Ambrosia, among others. Their primary music wasn’t R&B but they had songs that did well on the black music charts. This is nothing against ARS. I actually liked their hits but I never considered them ‘blue-eyed soul’. Music critics often bring up The Righteous Brothers as the pioneers of ‘blue-eyed soul’ and I don’t even agree with that claim. Again, I mean no disrespect (emphasize that bc I know these debates can get contentious). ✌🏽
The "Theme From Law & Order" was written by composer Mike Post, who had several Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with his instrumental theme songs from various TV series. You might also like his songs: "Theme From The Rockford Files" (No. 10, 1975 ... 3 minutes, 11 seconds), "Theme From Magnum P.I." (No. 25, 1982 ... 3 minutes, 28 seconds), and "Theme From Hill Street Blues" (No. 10, 1981 ... 3 minutes, 14 seconds).
I saw them in concert, it was really great, all of it, but the bass player was UNBELIEVABLE, he did a few solos, I wouldn't compare him to Getty, but he is just as great a musician as Getty, different style..
You guys are just fun. I really like your reviews - you play off of each other well. I miss it when one of you doesn't get to participate, but understand that it would be hard to coordinate schedules. Not that I don't enjoy when it's just two of you - the review is still enjoyable. Hope you keep going - it is truly a pleasure watching/listening. Great review guys!
I love 70’s soft rock!
"Champaign Jam, " Doraville," " Not Gonna Let it Bother me Tonight," " Imaginary Lover" and many more. Just so smooth.
Plus two more: The shuffle rocker "Angel" and the acoustic ballad "Do It Or Die" -- also terrific tunes.
All great songs. Love Champaign Jam!
@@jdw5678 Which transitions you right into the Steve Miller band🙌❤️
One of the BEST groups to be underrated with so many great songs. A LOT more people need to know about this band......
i'm 63 years old, and regardless of all the things age takes away from you, i am SOOOOO grateful to have lived in a time that had so much incredible music, on the radio, every day...!!!!!
56 and Ditto!
Me too ! 70s were the best 👌
'78 grad here....no doubt about it!👍🤙
This one really takes me back...😊 Imaginary Lover is probably their biggest hit, and it’s a good one.
Spooky!
Just enjoy!
Imaginary Lover is the logical next step. So underrated.
Georgia Rythm! Awesome ARS song! And style!
I turned 62 yesterday boy the memories from this song ha!
Atlanta Rhythm Section will forever be in my heart. Definitely one of the super bands
I lived in Doraville, the town this band is from. Saw them several times. So good!
Love this song! Boz Scaggs Lowdown is untouchable and the best song of all time! But this is great
One of my favorites, the rated R song 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛🧛
Not bad on Law and Order and Supertramp references. Nice catch
Imaginary Lover is a great tune too! 70s Rock baby!
Wow, I had forgotten this song, and I always thought it was the Doobie Bros or the Stevw Miller Band. My mom used to listen to the 70s station (in the 80s), so I recognize it from there.
This song also has those funk vibes, not only soul. :) The live version is even better because of the longer guitar solo. Incredibly groovy track!!
Barry Bailey was the guitarist. He was amazing

ARS southern rock style was big back in late 70's and early 80's. Champagne Jam Next reaction ❤ Thanks for the reaction.
I hear a lot of Alan Parson's Project (Sirius and Wouldn't want to be like you) and Toto. Great song. Great groove.
I watch L&O all the time! Esp the SVU series. Love that intro music also, it's the best.
The greatest Bass guitar solo in the history of rock, Paul Goddard, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Another Man's Woman !!!
I moved to middle Georgia in the early 1970s. It was the days when you could see the Allman Brothers walking around downtown Macon, the days of Capricorn Records, Elvin Bishop, Mussel Shoals and Southern Rock was king. It seems like an eternity has passed since then...
I knew Ty would do it-"its gonna be good"🎵😉cuties all guys
"Georgia Rhythm" & "Imaginary Love" are both fantastic.
within temptation - wireless (visualizer)
"Imaginary Lover!!"
Some Steely Dan vibes with some Boz Scaggs. 😊😊😊
The funny thing about Spooky - ARS did a cover of it in 78, but some of the members were in the band that did it originally in the 60s- Classics 4. Kinda like the same band had the same hit twice lol
Bobby Caldwell- "What You Won't Do For Love " trust me 1979 do the video should not be blocked!! Fire :)

This album heavy rotation in my room!
Imaginary Lover is another you have to listen to by them.

Instantly relatable lyrics, for one of the most hypnotically haunting songs from the 1970s.
Many of their songs on my playlist....
An underappreciated band, great song. "Imaginary Lover" is the next one to review.
You have the distinction of posting the ONLY RUclips reaction to the Law and Order theme song!
"Champagne Jam". Thank you
Enjoy you gents mucho.

They Call Me the Breeze
Lynyrd Skynyrd
It's a gem.
Atlanta Rhythm Section is a great southern rock band. "Imaginary Lover" and "Not Gonna Let it Bother Me Tonight" are classics you'll love.
The 1970's was a treasure trove of what would be called 'easy rock.' Absolutely great song.
Excellent musicians. Most, if not all, were studio session players before ARS.
They also were with the Classics Four in the 60's
Yes. Paul Goddard in particular was an outstanding bass player.
If you guys havnt done Rolling Stones-Miss You…it’s a MUST REVIEW! Stones greatest song!
Requested by Gabe in Eugene Oregon
As a 57 year old native Atlantan ,ARS is a great band with some great tunes.
ARS was good live as well….often overlooked but always brings it! ❤
Not gonna let it bother me tonight, is a great song too!
Wow memories ❤
Really loved the 70s - so many different genres to choose from soft, hard, southern, bluesy, British rock and of course soul, R&B & blues
I will never turn this tune off when it comes on the radio
Imaginary Lover is their most popular and probably their best song. You should make it your next ARS reaction.
I love this song, but if you're tripping on the smoothness of this, then God help you when you hear "Imaginary Lover".
My jam!
Holding On To Yesterday by Ambrosia. The studio is good. If you want something different, they did a simulcast with some FM station live. The video is not great, but because of simulcast the sound is really good. You get to watch David Pack and the rest of them do their harmonies. DO THIS ONE!
David Pack 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I love Ambrosia!
Underrated band.
💯
Ronnie Hammond was quite the Ladis lav man.
We used to have some fun with it by saying there waS DO,DO IN HER EYES....
“Imaginary Lover” is their second top 10 hit after “So Into You”.
Been listening to this over 40 years, I'm 60, in Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺, love you guys reactions, Low down was so funny, best pick me up video on RUclips. I play this some times at BJJ. Take care guys bring it.
Great song a legendary
"Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight" is a great one by ARS.
Another one from the same era " couldn't get it right" from Climax Blues Band
There was so many good songs from the 70s you would have a lifetime of reactions
The boys are back in town...
Another hit of theirs (that I remember from the 70's) was "Imaginary Lover".
So many good tunes to tap into with ARS. Do your ears a favor and take a deep dive into this band.
This song is a sexy slinky beast. Welcome to the room that knows about it.
One of my favorite bands from high school you need to do imaginary lover if you haven't done that one yet and champagne jam
Damn you guys made this old 77 yr old lady get her ass up and dance! Damn i really dug that song! WAA hooooo.... 🔥drove my hubby crazy.... Cuz I danced all over the house.... 😅😅😅😅
This song brings yacht rock back to the plate, Ambrosia on deck
They did “Biggest Part Of Me” already. I hope “You’re The Only Woman” is next in line.
ARS, responsible for many great songs, even before they were ARS. Oh, and nice shirt. One of my favorite FNM albums.
Is it out of jail yet?
imaginery lover gives that law and order feel alot more imo
They are still touring (without original singer) along with another Atlanta 1970's band called, Mother's Finest (still original). RIP, Buddy.
oh boy... walking me down memory lane boys
Very underrated band. Lots of great songs in their rabbit hole. My personal favorite it Spooky. But then again they are all great songs
Nice pick with ARS ! The musicianship with them is always amazing. I highly recommend Imaginary Lovers or Alien by them.

Listen to imaginary lover by Atlanta rhythm section next. Really tasty

Quintessential
This song has such a vibe. I've always loved it ❤️

The ELECTRIC PIANO is awesome on this track.
Seriously this is some southern blue eyed soul
DISFRUTEN DE LA MEJOR EPOCA DE LA MUSICA, LOS 60 ,70 Y 80 SENTARON LAS BASES DE LA MEJOR MÚSICA QUE NUNCA MORIRA .
SE LA PERDIERON.
Good reaction on the 'Law and Order' theme song guys....hehe
Keep up the good work
One of my favorite songs from back in the day. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Good choice. Know little about Southern rock but these guys were on my radar back in the day in little ol' Enzed. Solid.
" Not Gonna Let it Bother me Tonight" & " Imaginary Lover" !!!!!!
This is a great old song, so chill. I’m glad to see you all react to it.
You guys are just fun. I really like your reviews - you play off of each other well. Their most popular and my favorite one !
38 Special would be a great southern rock band to dive into. A lot of hits.
