Watching this a few days after we got back from Nice - we actually reached the Turini/Braus split in the road and were very tempted to turn towards Turini, but the weather reports were warning of a storm around noon. Even though it was 10 AM and beautiful weather, we chose to go right, towards Braus (a very nice climb as well). Once we reached Sospel and turned towards Col de Castillon, the weather started to turn bad - just as we descended towards Menton, the sky above the mountains turned really dark. Had we gone to Turini, we'd be caught in a storm, with temperature just above freezing and a heavy rain - never underestimate the mountains!
Living in flat Australia, I love watching these videos for the stunning scenery, and the bizarre concept of starting a ride in sunshine, and finishing it in snow! Love your work Col Collective :-)
Another superb film. Got this climb near the top of my list for next summer though judging by this , late March or April would be far more dramatic. Brilliant work.
Very good to see your footage of the col. On my own I found an isolated feeling as well, I appreciate from your facts the size and history of this one.
I was supposed to ride this climb this past summer, 2021, but it was canceled. Truly a big disappointment to me as I was so looking forward to making that climb (and descent). Thank you, Mike and crew, for this video as I get to see it and that's good enough for now.
Puerto de la Morcuera. 1756m.Miraflores de la Sierra. Madrid. Spain. The best mountain of Madrid. History LA VUELTA 2015- Dumoilin, Aru and Landa, made a history, recomendable climb and up video now! Greetings from Madrid.
It is a truly great climb. I went up yesterday starting and ending at Monaco where most professional cyclists actually start and end from (I'm not one of them, but I did see Richie Porte two weeks back on his way to Col de Turini and he was extremely open, encouraging, talkative, and generally a wonderful person). If starting and ending at Monaco and entering from the Sospel direction (and having to pass col de Castillion before reaching Sospel), the total necessary climbing is 2,400m. If also starting and ending in Monaco but passing Peille (doing Col de Turini in the opposite direction), the total necessary climbing is also 2,300m, so it is almost the same in both directions. So you can also do round trips from Monaco, without backtracking, and either passing Sospel before the climb or after it, and the total climbing is about 2,400m. It is tough ride. If you ride directly from Nice to col de Castillion, and descend back the same way, it can be done without almost no extra climbing so the total climbing for the day about 1,700m if going directly from Nice to L'Escarene to Col de Turini and then reverse the ride.
Good to see there are fewer slow motion shots. In earlier videos of climbs it really was irritating to watch and spoiled them for me. Late April to early mid May is the best time to ride the Turini. The South of France is gorgeous at this time of year.
Once again: stunning, beautifull and amazing. Can i give you a suggestion for another time? You should do the kaunertaler gletscherstrasse in Austria. Its a monster, but also a beauty.
Just checked it out.. looks awesome..If you come to US>.. try Mt Evans. in Colorado.. its more surreal than PIkes..and more difficult bc the roads are bumpy and cracked..
I too want to know about the music, particularly the instrumental section from just before the Notre Dame church about 10k up From 2:40 to 4:40 on the video. Would really like some music credits! great views! Also so nice to see it ridden this time of year.
that is so beautiful. Am thinking of riding this and the surroundings in september, whats it like for car traffic? Also where would the best place to base myself? Thank you
Qué hermosa ascensión. Debe ser impresionante rodar con la nieve, a un costado de la carretera, cuantos kilómetros se suben?Gracias y Saludos desde México.
Ive dont think Ive seen a better climb on here (excepy maybe the Nivolet). More spectacular yes but this seems to have it all. obviously Id need to try them all to compare.

Thxx again for a inspiring trip, while I pack myself for a daily commute in the wintery rain in the Netherlands.
Outstanding, thanks Mike. Another one to add to the growing list.
One of the best biking roads ive ever ridden on my motorbike ,its just amazing ,come back for some great memories,
It certainly is!!! Glad you got to enjoy it!!
Just subbed. I watched this while riding the rollers. It's perhaps the best way to watch.
Wow magnifique vidéo encore une fois
As ever, a wonderful video from Mike and the team! Keep up the great work.

12500 mtrs and 9 days in to the strava climbing challenge, I really needed this kind of motivation 👍
best way to start a morning is with a new video :)

I did this in similar conditions once but wearing summer kit - quickly learned my lesson on the long descent to bring enough warm gear next time!

Great video Mike. You're one of the luckiest guys in the world.

Amazing as usual...just amazed you don't get even more views
Stunning mate.
I had the ocassion to climb it by night with a rally car during the Historic Monte-Carlo but in bike, it seems to be really awesome !
Magique👍
Awesome pal keep going.

Amazing
Just announced as the summit finish for the penultimate stage of Paris Nice this year but i think approaching from the northern side...
How is there no traffic on these beautiful roads?
This is the sort of gradient and distance that I like to climb.
Reminds me a little bit of the Lac de Cap de Long.
Stunning ride! Quite daring to do it in these weather conditions. Didn't you worry about ice on the road?
Fantastic and inspiring as usual !! Have you got an external bottom bracket on that bike ?? cheers
Mike you gotta do Haleakala
epic!
Так это рядом со мной ? Нужно ехать ! ;)

fucking cycling !!!
What saddle are you using?
🔝
My first question... is the road always that empty... second question... what are you eating on this ride? I never see you eat... lol
Once away from the coast almost all of the Cols are pretty much deserted
music?
Amazing video!! Like every single one you post! When was this filmed?
Middle of March. He said about 3 times as well as subtitles.
Two frames of Toro bottle is really enough...
✌👍
Anyone else climbing this next week ahead of the Tour??
Need a sugar momma to finance my cycling trips...then it would be non stop climbing all over..
C'est truqué mdr
