Ask yourself, why should somebody send quite “young” GPUs to a (costly) repair shop using their own money and not RMA them? As the buyers already new, the warranty was voided.
Even the initial (first) videomaker (KrisFix) finally did a bit of thinking and asked the customers. The cards came from one seller, all of them, one single batch. They came from a mining farm and were too clean for used. The repair shop concluded that they were pressure(!) washed and neither handled nore stored correctly. The batch was sold in EU/Germany, ta ta -> Outrage without reason.

Agree. Great video. I like how it's data rich. He focuses on the numbers. No waffling.
Just a bit quick with showing and then hiding the graphs. Just as I look at wherever RX 6700 XT is and then look with a Nvidia RTX 3060 is and then start to look around on the graph it's gone.
I wonder if it's possible for him to do a graphic where he highlights the two cards on the graph and then the next page is the two cards with this new graphic showing MSRP vs cheapest price new, etc I'm focusing on these two as he's making his point. Without the flipping around into different images of a guy with some cash in his hand and then some other image and then some other image.
There's a lot to take in and he talks quickly but I do like it but it can be a little bit hard to read the graph while he's talking and then the picture changes.
Reading a page of a graph takes longer than one or two seconds.
I'm wondering if he has a website where he has all the data and we can type in our budget and we can select new all used and the resolution and we can see what are the best cards. Or a card hierarchy chart like Tom's Hardware used to do 5 10 years ago. They had a great top to bottom chart with the most highest performing cards at the top lowest at the bottom and each row would contain one or a few cards that had similar performance ability. This way you could quickly look at your card even if it was a few years old and see just how much better a newer card might be in terms of performance.

I feel like price per frame is a good meteric, but another factor is the frame rate you get above the frame rate you are targeting. Few people buy every generation GPU. So if yo get a 4090 and it delivers 4k 60+fps for the next 5-7 years, then it has well and truely outperformed the price per performance of 3 consecutive 4060/5060/6060rtx purchases.
Plus, inflation will drive up the future purchase price of the future purchases.

  • @h2835
    @h2835 Год назад +2

Well: While this is interesting (and informative), there is also one additional metric that people tend to forget. Power consumption. Say you live in the EU. You have a 230V outlet in your wall. And you have a main breaker of 32 Amps in most relatively new houses. That is a grand total of 7360 Watts of continuous power draw. If you install a smaller AC that has a power draw of 2-3 kWh, and then a fridge, some lamps, all you will have left for whatever other equipments you need is the scraps.
In fact, where I live it is customary to put a 16A breaker per room, and that will have to supply your AC, the computer, the lamps, and all the screens you use. So generally I tend to think in terms of power budget for the PC too. Adding in more electrical lines costs an arm and a leg. It can be around the ballpark of an average yearly salary for the paperwork, the boxes and the installment.
And this is where it gets annoying. Remember the olden days? When we had cards like the GeForce 1050Ti? The thing is: around 6-8 years ago the basic entry level card required no external power, and could work well from the PCIe power delivery (75W total card power for the 50 series). Then we had the 60 series, and they used around 120W and had a 6 pin connector. The 70 series was where power draw started to ramp up with the introduction of 8 pin connectors.
What do we have today? The 3050 uses 135 Watts of power. Sure, it is as powerful, as the 2060 (that is as powerful as the 1070, AND has the same power draw), but I do not see power draw going down. In fact, I see the total power draw going way up.
To sum it up: Another interesting graph is performance for power consumption. When comparing an NVidia graphics card to an AMD one, we should also compare the ones that use the same amount of power. So the 3050 will go against the RX 6600 non-xt, as that is the card with the closest power draw. Do not forget: electricity also costs money. And power plants take a long time to build...

I did a sidegrade to 3060Ti for two reasons. One, random card driver issues. Though I will say the 6700XT was SUPREMELY better than the 5700XT! Overall very good experience, especially at around $340, what I paid for it late last year. Second, occasionally booting to a black screen, still having weird game issues on specific stuff (Ryujinx will either sing or cry with an AMD graphics card and you can't tell which) and still overall being much more happy with video capture with Nvidia over Radeon, I can take winning some fights and losing some. Plus the 3060Ti was $300 plus shipping used at the time I decided to switch, so easy exchange imo. Preferring DLSS over FSR is merely a technicality, DO NOT PAY TAXES FOR BAD FRAME HACKS. Look at rasterized performance, and if the Radeon is significantly cheaper than the Nvidia card you're looking at with equal or better performance, you will be much much happier with that. Even on the 40-series Nvidia cards, raytracing is still dogshit and tanks your framerate, unless you use the "features" of frame hacks like DLSS and fake frame insertion, at which point... why are we making the quality go down to sorta kinda make the quality go up in ways? Stupid. Just buy on rasterized performance and card stability and pricing. RTX features are trying to sell you something that sucks anyways.

Great video and data, one thing I would recommend is cutting out the real world pricing on the chart. The only 2 things that "matter" would be ppf and the fps, the price can be extrapolated from it and makes it a bit harder to read. What we are looking for is a highest white and lowest pink where actual prices should just be listed by the card so we can scan looking for what fits out budget. Like I said though, great video.

If you're looking for a top tier CPU, Intel's are more expensive, still better for gaming (although amd's catching up), but the raptor lake motherboards support DDR4 ram unlike am5 motherboards who only support DDR5, as you may know, intel's 13th gen was the last raptor lake cpu, so you're gonna have to upgrade your motherboard once the 14th gen comes out if you wanna upgrade whereas the am5 will likely still be the next amd gen architecture, if you're not looking for a top tier it really depends on what you want so can't really help you with that

You’d have to be crazy to
Not realize one is cheaper for a reason????? You get what you pay for in life Radeon is better than it’s even been but Nvidia is still a more polished product.

As much as I like to see supply/demand forces at work rather than just static price fixing, trying to build my new rig has been made that much more difficult. Want an all AMD build using a 7800X3D, but it's very difficult finding the right GPU without pushing my build cost too high. Even though I mostly game in 1080p, I also like running with the highest settings possible and I do often like to overclock my CPUs and GPUs to make them last longer. This is tricky because what if a particular vendor didn't implement proper cooling on the PWMs? Then you have to do after market cooling. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, I still use a heavily OC'd R9 380. I could push the GPU itself much much further without heating/voltage issues but the PWMs are limiting me. This was design foresight issue with the ASUS Strix DirectCU II cards. They didn't have proper PWM cooling. So, price and base performance per dollar is far from the only set of data points I have to deal with.

In that case, that falls to the AIB. EVGA was my go to on the Nvidia side (RIP) and Sapphire/XFX have always been good to me on the Radeon side of things. You can't really go wrong either way as long as the prices are competitive and you have more than 8GB of VRAM. Games are already using that amount at 1080p with settings cranked.

r9 380 brings back memories. I got a r9 390x back in 2017 and used it up until January this year when I upgraded to a 4080. My card still works, I got my moneys worth with that thing. it still plays every game even cyber punk. did not get to try Hogwarts with it though. I was playing most older games high settings at 1440p to 4k. cyber punk turned it into 1080p card though. just not enough horsepower.

You will see in one or two years how much it will be sufficient and my best guess will be you will need a new graphics card by then, while people that bought much more powerful cards now can lean back for the next 5 years.

What’s funnier is that now, 5 months later, AMD cards have only dropped in cost so much more while Nvidia stagnated. Nothing makes more sense than AMD, and if you enable SAM, keep the card at stable temps like 60-70c, and overclock VRAM, you get a very smooth experience. The drivers aren’t even that bad. For example (in the best improvements you would see), FH4 gets a 25-30% improvement in framerate, with a much more stable frametime (in 1080p, the effect lessens with resolution). Drivers can only get better (most of the time). Intel is also a great competitor to Nvidia now. This means that the gap in value has only increased away from Nvidia.

And also your Target-Framerate is important. A 3060ti won't help me if i wanna get 165fps at 1440p. And then people could argue that everything above that target is wasted but important for smooth gameplay are the 1% lows. I came from a RX6800 to a RX7900XTX and to be honest? Gaming never felt that smooth because i aim for 1440p165 and in many titles my 1% lows are like 160 or sth like that. Even the 6800 was also a very powerful card but dropping 20-30 frames here and there can feel less smooth...
And you should always keep in your mind that a lower tier card may be swapped out quicker. That could have reasons like less VRAM or the pure performance. If you are on a low budget i'd always recommend to get a 6700XT with 12GB VRam instead of a 3070 or 3060Ti with 8GB f.e. I'd even prefer it over a 3060 with 12GB because the 6700XT is just quicker. :)

Just got a prebuilt Lenovo with an r7, 3060ti, 1 tb ss and 16 gb ram for 1099 euro. I'm in The Netherlands so that includes 21% tax. Runs great at 1440p. No need to spend more for me. The upgrade beyond that is so much more expensive for such a relatively small graphical upgrade that I just don't see the point. 😊

So this is what’s recommended for gpus lately. I actually got an Hp Omen 25L pc that has a RX 6600XT gpu, and it works pretty well, though it’s kinda baffling that it’s more expensive yet has a slightly lower frame rate than the 6650XT. Either I’m pretty happy with my computer overall as I can game at 1440p and always have the option to go to 1080p if I ever need to get better performance

Depends on where you are located, in Germany the used market is better for Nvidia Cards.
The 3060 Ti is a tad weaker than 6700 XT in Rasterization, the 3070 a tad stronger.
Both win over the 6700 XT once DLSS or of course RT enters the equation.
The 3070 can be had for like 40 bucks more here in the used market, so it`s easily the best Option for 1080p imo.
Same for the 3080, you can get these for 550€, the 6800XT costs the same, they trade blows depending on the Games, again, when DLSS is at hand, which is very often the case, Nvidia wins and is the better Value. And you actually have the option to use RT as well.
I find it really amazing how spot on the used market usually gets often pricing in the exact performance benefits much more so than new prices, which are whack these days.

This is great work and much appreciated. Thank you.
I will assume that the prices shown are excl any US taxes. If so then for UK market, based on PCPartPicker, it's not as bad as some may think, though the UK is still more expensive. Once you strip the VAT (+20%) and adjust for the currency (1USD = 0.81GBP) the RX6700 is +£15 ($18) but the RX6650XT however is poor value at +£37 ($46). There's only one tier difference in performance but the price variation does not reflect this. I will assume the same is true for other international markets.

I am currently running a GTX 1080 but bought a new monitor a few weeks ago and it struggles to get near the 165Hz the 1440p panel is able to display. Thus I've now ordered an RX7900xtx. The Only choice of Nvidias lineup for me would have been the 4070ti, since the 3000-series cards dont't support dlss3 and still have a high price tag afterall. The 4080/4090 are way too expensive. The AMD card on the other hand gives me a lot of performance for it's (still insanely high) price tag and i am convinced that it will last a few years in contrast to some more budged oriented options.

Probably better to give several good recommendations of various prices for 1080p, 1440p, and 4k. Rather than organizing it by price primarily.
Also your "test suite" rating for fps, is skewed very high. Are you testing everything at minimum settings? or is the test suite just cs-go + doom?

It is a mistake to accept these prices. Both AMD and NVidia are drunk on crypto pricing. They are both just pushing gamers to console. $500 dollar graphics card is NOT sane to the average. It is BUY a console unless you want to be ripped off.

    -RTX3070 zotac double fan
-RTX3060TI MSI TRIO/gigabyte gaming oc pro
Im a bit concerned about the cooling in the zotac 3070 it runs at 8° more than the gigabyte but also draws 10 to 20 less watts

Got a 7900 XTX for MSRP. I think that's the flaw with this methodology: it's a ton of statistical work, that is only relevant for a very brief period of time. Just one month later and I'm hard-pressed to find a 7900 XTX that's more than $100 over MSRP. I can't even imagine one costing $400 over.
At $1000, it's relatively a very good deal, more-so than the 7900 XT, even though it's still dumbly expensive for a GPU. Just compared to it's competition...
