Hi! Master of Science (MS) audiologist here. Just wanted to point out that it’s not just a Master of Arts (MA) degree. Yes, I’m old. Got my MS in Audiology in 1991.
    Great video, BTW!

So one area you fail to mention is that some audiologists work in an ENT medical practice (so when I visit my ENT, it is an audiologist who performs my hearing test before I see my doctor) and others (like yourself I assume) work in a hearing aid center. Because my hearing loss is from an acute medical condition and my hearing is very unstable, I receive all of my audiology care from the professional who works directly with my ENT. So it is through this audiologist that I get my hearing aids.

I've been working with an ENT and his clinic for the last 3 years. Being deaf since birth I'm my left side, and having never had trouble with my right ear until about 4 years ago, I began experiencing symptoms that we eventually were able to narrow down to a rare sort of inner ear disorder.
The hearing loss has tanked quite quickly in the last year and a half, esp. the last 6 moths. Rapidly. There is no cure or reversal, and for the first time in my life, this unnerves me a great deal. My own malady is also of an unstable sort, and isn't likely to ever improve. It's been a difficult challenge, to be sure.
I finally realized it will be better for me to get my hearing device from his audiologist, rather than an outside clinic I was going to go to previously. After all, he and his staff have all my records and know my particular situation.
If I can just get past the circus that the insurance company is creating over coverage, I'm hoping to have a hearing aid soon.
Living in a rural area, it's quite a drive to get to a couple of his locations. But I'm sure it is going to be worth the hassle, at some point.
May I ask what your condition is, if I'm not being to intrusive?
I myself was diagnosed with Ménière's disease.
If you don't care to share here, I completely understand. Thanks!

@@phoenixmode6909 Hi! And thanks for sharing! I was diagnosed with autoimmune inner ear disease in my left ear, which was previously my "good" ear and like you my hearing is very unstable and fluctuates constantly, but especially since the fall of 2022 has been steadily getting worse. The hearing in my right ear is stable but very poor, especially with real world speech discrimination. Audiologists in a conventional clinic wouldn't have a clue how to deal with my type of situation (one actually told me she had zero training in school for people with such fluctuating hearing).
I recently got new Phonak hearing aids but nothing can really replace what I've lost unfortunately.

I would like to add that at Costco, besides a high school diploma, you must have earned 60 college credits and pass a test to even be considered for the intensive Hearing Instrument Specialist apprentice position. The apprenticeship is intense and very involved, with continual exams and benchmarks to meet. 🙂

Are there any states that do NOT enforce these requirements for someone claiming that they’re an AUDIOLOGIST?

In Oregon, as i am sure in other states, has a licensing board where you can confirm the degree the practitioner has. You can also find out if their license is current and if there has been any disciplinary actions against the practitioner and how long they have had their licenses. All information that is good to know.😊

You didn’t give the amount of hours an audiologist actually spends fitting hearing aids during their education which is typically less than what an HIS gets during their two year apprentice period. In many instances an HIS working with an audiologist will
Have to train the audiologists on fitting protocols.
