I used hearing aids for three years, and it was just a waste of money, time, and effort.
At that time they offered bluetooth for listening music and controlling volume.
The shop that sold to me the hearing aids told me rhat I had to get used to the hearing aids, and that would take about three months.
When I came back after three months, they told me that the time frame to return the device was only for 30 days.
    What a scam!
Of course I went to another shop to have my hearing aids reprogrammed, but they told me it wasn't possible.
Whenever I tried to find better hearing aids I heard the same: Smaller devices, blah, blah.
My answer is going to be the same. Show me that it works and I will consider it. Otherwise, I will not fall in another scam.
It is better to be partially deft wirh my money in the wallet than been partially deft wearing a device that doesn't work, but with my money in my wallet.
    Just sharing my experience.

I have new Starkey Genesis AI 20 HS R hearing aids and I'm having problems. Just went back to my audiologist today for some fine tuning. I only really need them when I'm away from home but I am wearing them every day as advised. When I am away from they haven't been helping all that much. Hopefully the adjustments will help tamp down the noise and raise up the speech which is what I need.

Maybe mine need retuning for added volume. Whatever, I wouldn't be without them, I only have 21% hearing left now in both ears.

I am very happy with how well my Bernafon hearing aids work. I live in Ecuador, so I was limited on what brands are available. The only problem I have is that my ears itch like crazy after an hour or two of use. The part that goes into my ear is, I think, a silicone cone. I ordered the Ear Itch MD that you recommend. It will take a few weeks to arrive here, but I am looking forward to trying it. I have to tell you that I was riding in the front seat of a friends car, at highway speeds. One of my friends sitting in the back seat spoke to me in a normal volume. Lo and behold I totally heard and understood him clearly. That is the first time in decades that I was able to do that. Amazing. I love your videos, and thank you for the wealth of information that you share.

I have Reston aids from Costco. I had a professional hearing test at my medical clinic . The Costco techs did multiple adjustment but I HATE my hearing aids. I have mild hearing loss and the discomfort of wearing them and the multiple times they don't help me here make me just not use them. They talked me into another adjustment when I wanted to return them and then I had a serious family emergency and was out of town when the time to return them expired. I blame myself for that but wonder if more audiologists should tell paitents with mild (they say I'm mild to moderate in speech recognition) that hearing aids may not make a huge difference.

Great video and information. The only problem with getting an audiologist who follows best practices from hearing up is that it could be very far away from where you live.
Dr Cliff also states there are audiologists who follow best practices who are not part of his website. Keep that in mind. You can't find a good Audiologist is not associated with Dr Cliff.

There is also the factor of unrealistic expectation by the patient that they will get all of their lost functionality restored. Providers need to make sure this is discussed up front.

I received a set of Signia Pure Charge & Go T 7IX from the VA about a month ago and I'm in a period of getting used to them. When I received them the audiologist ran true ear measurement but didn't do any adjustment. Thd devices are somewhat annoying as they don't give sound that is what I hear without them. My voice bothers me and there is occlusion. I have my appointment to have them adjusted on the 28th and I'm hoping for a good result.

I didn’t hear you say anything about sound quality. “Features” are only as good as broadcasted sound. I have earbuds and headphones that sound great. What’s with the poor sound quality in hearing aids? I have asked my audiologist and they don’t answer me either. I am asking because I really think that you can give me an answer. I am not trying to be unkind. Did I miss you saying that the real ear measurement fixes sound quality?

    • @DrCliffAuD

@@wootenbasset8631 sound quality has everything to do with how the hearing aids are programmed and the acoustic coupling characteristics. Real Ear Measurement can fix a lot of sound quality issues, but you are often at the mercy of the coupling and additional programming adjustments of a professional.

Absolutely anything to avoid people just getting the software and trying to make adjustments on their own . Absolutely anything to make sure that we must go to audiologists. the only reason over-the-counter won’t work is because audiologist and hearing aid markers got in there and made sure that the over-the-counter will not get loud enough and will not have enough parameters and will for sure drive people into an audiologist office
