It's not the most powerful device for N64 and it does require a bit of tinkering but it can run a bunch of N64 games ok if you are willing to play with some setup
Thanks for the showcase. Do you have experience with DK64, too? On my R36S it's kinda playable, with funny glitching hands/arms/feets/legs, but running at normal speed. I also tried it with JelOS, but that was even worse with every "higher" emulator like dc, saturn, n64 etc. It even had a drift with the left stick, I don't know how and why, but since I flashed it with ArkOS the problem was solved. Do you have more tips for running the more demanding systems?
I tried DK64 on the latest arkos with standalone rice emulator and it works great. No slowdowns and no glitchy textures in the first level. For those other higher end systems, stay tuned for more videos 😉
which core r u ussing for pokemon stadium? parallel? mupen? and which plugin? bc rice have some graphical glitches on menu and portraits of pokemon and gln64 is a little bit slower compared with rice (both under parallel)
If you are using a retroarch core, you could try increasing the deadzone on the joystick. Open retroarch then go to Settings -> input -> and increase the Analog Deadzone to 0.1 This will make the joystick less sensitive to small movements but it might negate the drift if it is minor. Otherwise you could always try to replace the joystick directly with a switch joystick replacement. I have a written post about replacing the joystick in the rg353v which has a very similar layout to the r36s
What budget friendly handheld would you recommend for DK64 as well as N64 in general. Secondary question, which would you recommend for ps2? I dont want a steam deck. Im not tech savvy in the slightest bit either. The whole cores, different emulator settings, arkos (whatever that is) i have zero clue about. Im not much intrested in learning how to do things myself either. My electronics hate me and I dont fuck with them. Id be libel to start a war in a 3rd world country trying to mess with shit.
N64 is kind of hard to handle "out of the box" for Linux handhelds but Android handhelds are also harder to set up and not quite as plug and play as Linux. Ultimately the handheld emulator scene imo is for tinkerers and not ideal if you are technophobic. If I had to recommend a budget friendly N64 emulator that requires the least setup, it would be the retroid pocket 2s. Android based and fairly cheap but can play any N64 without tweaking settings. For PS2 and GameCube, i would recommend the RP Mini or RP5. The RP4 and Anbernic RG Cube/Rg556/Rg406v or h can handle "most" PS2 and GC as well
Rk3566 device or better... So anbernic rg353 line, powkiddy rgb30, powkiddy rgb10 max3 or x55 Android devices will also work.. something like retroid pocket2s or 3+
Unfortunately not that I have found. Even lowering the resolution and setting graphics to low and trying all of the different emulators, I still can't get it to run. You can try the Dreamcast version or PS1 version as that is easier to emulate.
@@RetroHandheldGuidesquestion about 2 games. One is a Rom Hack for Super Mario 64, and the other is a normal game. I’m curious if it can run Castlevania 64: Legacy of Darkness and Takua 64
@marcossanchez1158 bad fur day is too hard to emulate on the r36s. It will not run well. But many other games, essentially yes.. add the ROM to your sd card ensuring it is in the correct folder and it will be able to be played on this device

Man I love these videos keep them coming. I see so many Reddit posts about how this device is “bad” when running n64 games.

Really appreciate the extra effort here, I had given up on some N64 games so this might help me go back to some. Keep it up!

I use Retroarch core, and its remove graphical glitches, that appears in another cores. Try that core next time
Is this better than the Trimiu pro? Even this one is weaker
No the r36s is significantly weaker than the trimui smart pro
.... Wave Race Also Very Playable On RGB30 Without Any n Tinkering ....
The rgb30 is more powerful than the r36s. N64 is definitely more playable on an rk3566 chip than the rk3326
Anyone know how the army men series play on this?

Gauntlet Legends is actually quite hard to emulate. It will not work well on the r36s

You'd probably better trying to run it through the port in Port master called 2ship2harkanian
You can put your own games on this, right?
Yes

If you use the fat thumb sticks on it could rub the edges. I use thin covers and don't find any issues with range of motion

Unfortunately not. The standalone emulators are pre-set so you can't change anything about the way that they work
