Another controller you should look out for is an ultra-rare twin-stick controller I've seen but not been able to find much info on. It's called Alpha 64 and was made by Nyko.
Just seems bizarre and the only games I know that even possibly could use both sticks are Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 7 лет назад +2

I have one I found at a flea market for $1, but the shoulder buttons need fixing, and yeah it's weird as you can flip a small switch on the back to use either the left or right analog stick(can't use both at the same time, and some games freak out when you flip the switch in mid game play), and it's the design Nintendo should have done with as thumb sticks are built like tanks with a metal shaft, and are tighter then even new official N64 controllers. Also it was made by Nyko. here is a page that has a review on the controller

In games like Duke Nukem the analog stick moved you, and the D-pad changed weapons. With a stock controller it was a pain moving your hand back and forth. So smooth with this controller.

I have that glove. Found it in a store and promptly looked it up; there was almost no information online. Brought it home, hooked it up, and it was a NIGHTMARE, just an absolute nightmare. It seems specifically designed to cause wrist strain. Rotating your hand and wrist around moves the analog stick, and you have to move it a LOT to push the stick all the way. It actually functions fine, it's just a nightmare to actually use.

I had the luck to get my hands on the Hori on a bazaar since I was a kid (same color too), and yep, unless you play games that REALLY needed the D-pad (like Kirby 64 or Pokemon Stadium and whatnot), it is gloriously confortable!

Matijony ...I have SWE1R and a V3 (though the cable to the pedals broke (that plastic stabiliser pin snapped) so I have to use the face buttons on the wheel) but I don't think I ever tried combining the two (WipEout 64 was kinda fun with the V3 though), I gotta remember to try that sometime.

I too have had the Interact brand Superpad 64 featured at the three minute mark. As a matter of fact I've owned two separate units of it. The first one I used regularly until the top of the thumbstick broke off. I later managed to find another one at a local Gamestop and bought it as a replacement. It too eventually had the top of it's thumbstick break off, go figure! The top of the thumbstick breaking off seems to be a recurring problem, possibly a design flaw.

I actually see what they were trying to do with that second superpad you brought up. The fact that they had the joystick and a d-pad both on the left side clearly means they were trying to sign as controller to be more conventional and more adequate by actually making it a two handed controller as opposed to the traditional N64 controller that's looks like a three handed controller.

I found a version of the SuperPad 64 (the 2-arm one, not the shark-looking thing) called the SuperPad 64 Ultra in a thrift store. Much nicer to hold, and the "awkward sideways angle" problem was corrected. If you ask me, either that or the Hori is how the official controller should have been designed

I had something I saw in hotels that blew my mind as a kid, a black n64 controller that worked as a remote and plugged straight into the tv, the hotel allowed you to play various games for 5 dollar an hour
Along with the really cool feature that.. it allowed you to control the tv 100%
If it's ever found, I would love to know the story behind it, I couldn't find anything out about it all these years

I actually picked up that steering wheel two years ago at a local shop that mistagged it. Meant to put a 69.99 sticker on it, put a 19.99 sticker on it. Score!

I had the Madcat in black, and I loved it. It was way more responsive than the stock N64 controller. Made playing OoT with it's clunky movement a lot smoother. And be honest, Ocarina of Time's movement was really clunky at times. So was Jet Force Gemini's movement, and the Madcat helped a lot in that game too. Love the Madcat, and the Turbo feature was amazing for spamming attacks, rolls, (OoT) or shots (JFG) with single shot weapons like the Pistol, and even the bow in OoT, to a certain extent.

I actually got the Super Pad 64 Plus (The controller with 2 grips), and while it's design is odd, it's actually not too bad. The joint is a metal one, so the joystick won't wear out as quickly, which is a blessing when your in an intense game of smash bros or mario kart.

Probably my secondary N64 Controller behind my Hori Pad is my Joycard 64 by Hudson. It's shaped like the original N64 controller, but it has better grips on the handles and it has turbo switches. The perfect Mario Party controller. It was originally this smokey color like the N64 itself, but I painted mine a camo pattern a long time ago.

When my family got our N64 (just after they came out) we got a controller with it that was similar to the original except all three grips were a lot wider. We fondly called it the “chubbs” controller, since it basically looked like a regular controller that had put on a few pounds, but unfortunately we got rid of it before too long.

I had a Shark Pad like that transparent one at the beginning of the video, except the mold had normal grips like a real N64 controller and they were much thicker. I actually really liked it but the analog stick was just a plastic cap held on by a cheap adhesive which came loose after a while. So at any given time, an odd flick of the stick would send it flying off and under it, the actual stem it was held to, was a sharp spike. Stabbed the shit out of my thumb on that thing.

The retro bit hyper mode controller looks identical to one I have but it's from a company called ASCII it has sliders like the one in the video you have in their color matched to the button that they will trigger for turbo the joystick seems to be identical to the normal N64 controllers the color of the controller I have is a see-through Brown / purple

I had all the controllers in the video at one point. That nuby boomerang is by far the weirdest thing I’ve ever held. There’s a controller called the LMP Gamester and another Nuby product called “The Rock” that look really bizarre too. I have not seen the rock on ebay to this day! I wouldnt say the n64 Japanese train and fishing controllers are worth an honorable mention as well. :)

ASCII Wheel is the one you should have mentioned. It is a racing wheel, actually even endorsed by Nintendo. I have it and it's very good. Doesn't have pedals, but you don't need analog acceleration on N64, it is just technically not possible.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but there was a strange flight stick pad released for the nintendo 64 by mad catz. Found one at a garage sale for 10 dollars a couple of years ago, it has a flight stick on the right side of the controller and what I assume to be a d-pad stick on the left. A very strange controller that I only used once.

I’ve actually gotten to use a N64 Glove. It works most of the time, albeit very clumsily. At least it doesn’t tend to “drift” like many other controllers for the N64. I can’t bring myself to say, “I recommend using it” though.
