I am a retired automobile mechanical engineer. I worked in engine for 18 years. What seems to be missing here is that you have ignored the function of the common PCV valve found on every modern vehicle. The normal PCV valve is a very simple inexpensive valve on most cars, and does not include a diaphragm that can rupture, like on this BMW. What it does is restrict air flow from the crankcase at idle, but allow enough to clear the blowby gases without reducing the vacuum level too much. During acceleration, when the the intake vacuum is low, it opens up more to allow the higher blowby gases to be fed into the intake manifold. If there is a backfire on decel, the PCV valve closes. What might be a smarter modification to this BMW vehicle would be your same fix, but include an inexpensive normal PCV valve in series with your vacuum line to the intake manifold.
But remember. a ordinary pcv has to be mounted vertical and will not function laying down, that is why I don't use them , a custom T hose would be needed
@@NathansBMWWorkshop I know this is an old video and maybe you've figured it or maybe not... PCV valves are made for both vertical and horizontal locations. Redinstrumental753 Hey mate, I know you asked 7 months ago and I hope you’ve replaced it. If not, the part number is 11611432559. It’s just a vent pipe according RealOEM.
@NathanDIYGarage Can I delete or bypass my ccv and/osv? My M62TU keeps getting oil in the intake manifold and eventually the combustion chamber. And I get misfire with fuel cuts on all cylinders. I remove the intake manifold, clean out the oil, reinstall it. The car runs perfect for about 300 miles. Then the misfires return. Any suggestions? Video links? Parts list? I have a 2001 740iL
So, essentially, you can remove it all, plug all the vacuum ports on the intake, and put breathers on the tube coming out of the valve cover and the dipstick tube? This is where the unwanted oil gets into the intake, right?
Hi Nathan, first off thanks for doing all the videos. I've done alot of repairs to my BMW with your instructions and I feel good about doing them with the help of you teaching. One question I can figure out, at 415 you were going to go in with a razor knife and disconnect the vacuum housing (with the hex bolts that you had to pry off). Yours broke free before you cut it but I cant find out in any of the videos what to do with that hose that broke (I capped off the vacuum bar system as you said) but does that hose that originally connected to this piece need capped or did you just leave it upcapped? I cant seem to find this answer is all of the videos that you made. You always just cut it and seal the vacuum bar but never mention that hose that you cut again. Do I cap that or just let it dangle?
Thanks your video Nathans. I have some questions My E39 is M54 525i engine Are there any disadvantage to delete original ccv systems without oil can? For example: oil consumption or air leak problem Will OBD detect error code after delete ccv systems?
After i decided to do a Valve cover Gasket and sealing that up pretty good, was getting slight sweating of oil every now and then. I Realized i've open up a whole can of other issue i started getting randum miss fire all over 02 sensor issue came up bank one bank two after driving 80 miles. I think what happend i put stress on the other old hosed hidden the top breather tube i discover a tear on the upper plastic intake hose i notice the rear vaccume line was old and brittle leaking in middle and now getting Lots of oil leak i notice its all coming out of the CCV valve unit especially right where the hose connect to it. So i decided to order the Entire CCV Valve Kit and some 5/16 and 1/8 vaccume line tube just in case and re do everything new. Does this sound common for this to happend car has 137K miles on it Thanks for all the GREAT video GREAT JOB!!!
Brittle hoses can definitely be a problem. I replaced all of mine last winter to try and fix a rough idle. Many were cracking apart when I went to remove the old ones. The valve itself can fail at almost any point, apparently. The diaphragm in it is also rubber, and can get brittle and tear.
Hi Nathan, thanks for taking the time to post these videos. They are most helpful. I did the ccv delete on my 04 e46. M54. However, my crankcase is building pressure at idle faster than the port on the back of the manifold can draw. Any ideas on how to solve this? Is pushing oil or of my valve cover gasket.
Please answer the question. I am following you from Iraq. Everything you do I do I have a problem with the engine and it is emitting gas, knowing that there is no problem in checking the device
I have a 2006 x5 3.0 and in the winter here in Maine when it gets colder the car starts fine no smoke and sometimes it will start to smoke and shut off and there’s oil in the engine bay over on passenger side I can’t find where it’s coming from. The car will not immediately start back up but will after a few minutes there doesn’t seem to be a loss of oil in the engine as well. I was told the car did not come with a cold climate pcv? Could I benefit from the delete and does this sound like a pcv issue. Also when the oil cap is removed there is a ton of suction is that bad thank you and thank you for the videos they are very informative
when you bypass this doe it pull up any check engine lights are codes. also thanks for great vids like this its a good thing that people like you pick up a camera and show the rest of us the tricks you pick up thanks
I ended up removing the ccv system and routing a line from the valve cover port down to the ground to avoid smelling the vapors. I Sealed off the two small ports on top of the intake and put a cap on the oil return line port @ the dip stick. 6 months and probably 5 thousand miles later it seems to be runing ok. I'm no enginer- I dont know how much vacuum goes through the system but I need to know what and how much damage it might cause. # 02 E53 X5 @240k
I need to find out what kind and size of filter you use on the oil dip stick tube vent. You didnt mention it, but my O ring seal leaks after doing this procedure. Im thinking its because I plugged the vent on the dip stick tube. Thank you!
Just for the sake of not having to dig all the way down past the throttle body to remove the ccv, can I just cut the pipes filter or block the appropriate pipes then reassemble?
+red i predator Yes you can, dont forget to check out my oil catch can video, and todays video will be up in a couple hours show a single tube replacement for the ccv, it hooks the valve cover tube to vacuum and you cap the dipstick tube hose.
+Nathan's DIY Garage cool man Ile look out for it, when you said about tapping off the 6 inlets on the intake, what is the reason for the breather rail? dose it help lube something pre combustion? I would say tap them off for clean cool air only...?
What about instead of blocking off the vacuum holes on the intake couldn't you just get a cheap pcv valve and connect the valve cover hole with new hoses? Seems like it would be better for the crank case ventilation.
I have a 2002 BMW 530i with the plug from the throttle in the same direction as the one in this video. My CCV also has the vacuum port to the fuel rail plugged off. The fuel pressure regulator is on directly on the fuel filter, that's why the fuel filter cost $75 instead of $20. Anyways I got the car for free so I can't complain. It was leaking badly from the oil seal that seals the oil filter housing to the engine block. I'm replacing everything under there while I'm in there and going to delete the CCV system taking it out completely. I will go the catch can route, because it just makes sense to help keep everything clean. I'm just not sure on if to block off the whole on the oil tip stick or stick a old V8 valve cover style filter on there. I don't want to smell any oil at stop lights since my wife will be using it as her daily. I would appreciate your advice on that specifically and any other suggestions you might have recently come up with that were not discussed here already. I also will be adding a wire extension from the starter signal wire so it will be easier to test the starter in future when needed. I'm will use AMSOIL 5W-40 EURO oil with the WIX XP oil filter. BMW coolant with mixed with Kangen water and DEX 3 ATF for my power steering. I loved your videos I subscribed and will be following your from now on. My next project is going to be replacing the automatic transmission pan and fluid. It would be nice to have you do a video on that next please. BMW call it a lifetime fluid but that's bullshit and you know it. I know that the filter is built into the pan, so you have to buy a whole new pan. I just don't know how to refill it. Wife just gave me a plate of food, got to go now. Your awesome bro keep up the good work. Call me if you would rather chat, I'm old school and hate typing :)) 407 252 8506
+Daniel Jose Matamoros Hello you will have to block off the oil dipstick tube if you install the catch can because if you do not you will have a huge vacuum leak, on your car the trans filter is not built into the pan since they didnt start that until 2004 on the 5 series, for sure let me know if you have any other questions and i really appreciate you watching the videos.
To block off the dipstick use a new piece of hose with a bolt and clamp it at the bolt and at the dipstick so it dont leak, this is the link to my trans fluid video, ruclips.net/video/mRKgVETXlLc/видео.html
How does the Ecu deal with not having the PCV? Does it through a code? I am in the middle of swapping my blown e39 525I motor to an E46 330I. I am plan on removing all things that are problematic and I could do away with such as the secondary vacuum pump and the back 2 O2 sensors. Also who do you use for tuning your ECU to calibrate delete these items?
It would be a whole lot easier if this wasn't a person primary means of transportation. Does the vehicle still pass California smog? Anyone in California performed this mod and still pass smog? Every time I watch your video's I'm learning something new. Appreciate the video's and the sharing of knowledge.
Great video - Thank you!! Say, why do you have to remove the CCV? Can you just splice the hoses and block them and just leave the CCV in its place and be done with it? Again, Thanks!
I have a 2001 E38 M62TU engine and am still at it based on your great work done. and...I bought the 2002 BMW X5 CCV that will have one hose connected like the 2002 BMW X5, where is the other hose from the oil catch can hooking in. I am deleting the internal OSV, and the pipe under the manifold that goes from the CCV over to the OSV and plugging the hole at front of the engine that would be going down to the OSV. I am not seeing where the second hose hooks in to the engine. I saw another similar video where he actually also used the 2002 external OSV but I could not understand that hose hook up @t if you could help me with where that second hose hooks up. If I use the oil catch can, do I need the 2002 external OSV to be hooked up and where, or just go to the oil catch can. Another thought was to tap a hole in the bottom of the oil catch can and tie it into the low pressure side of the oil filter housing with a T-Connector to return the overflow of the oil catch can to the engine. I hope you can make sense of what I am saying here Nathan. Thanks for your help.
Hope I are doing Oky Nathan... I m a Namibian and I Owen a 325i 2004 model BMW... Can u help me to get the timing set-up took kity Please... ? At wat price and how will i get ?

Hmm i replaced my ccv and all hoses yesterday and now i get the chewbaka and ticking noise. I previously replaced the vcg and al gaskets of the intake where else can ther be a vacum leak? I have no codes, the engine is just not running smooth like it shoud it has a slight vibration at iddle and also vibrates while driving
great video i replace the front fuel pressure hose and the oil breather hose to oil stick since then i have the car ruff idle you recommend me to change all the breather hoses with the ccv or just the hoses ?
asking if its not much of a problem for u to guide me im trying to do a ccv delete aslo on my 08 328i bmw asking for ur guidence on how it would be the correct way on doing so sir?
Nathan, I have the M52TUB28 engine. On my CCV there is a vacuum port and hose attached which I believe runs to the FPR. If I do this CCV delete what do I do with that vacuum hose? Thanks!
Has anyone ever tried simply running high temp hose instead of the plastic stuff and moving the CCV valve a few inches out from under the intake so it could be serviced easier? Seems like you could keep the basic valve/system but use the rubber hoses to move it around a bit rather that using a catch can.
jsgold2000 that is also what i was thinking but im not sure if anyone has done that. It does make perfect sense to just replace the plastic tubes with high temp hoses and clamps.
Ive got an E46 coupé with an m54b22 if i remove the pcv will i get any issues? Oh and just to add the throttle body on that model is different because its the same engine thats fitted to the E46 they changed it on the later E39's
Hey! So I haven't done this process but I have almost no suction at the oil fill cap. Does this mean I have a large vacuum leak? Any idea where to start looking?
Great video! By doing this delete are you removing all venting of the crank case? And are you experiencing any vacuum loss by installing open filters at the dipstick vent tube and front of the valve cover?
Very nice buddy, your videos gave me confidence to do this job. I'll give it a try once my CCV fails again. Thanks and keep up the good work, cheers from Brazil.
Hello I appreciate the compliment , I am trying to do videos everyday and hoping to get better at it as I go, I'm glad I could give you some insight on your car, thanks again and don't forget to subscribe if you aren't already
nathan your my hero i just did this diy and my oil leak stop. But my bmw was broken into and the thugs broke the key tumbler and my key won't close my door or anything like totally dead. Batteries new though. now my car wont crank over to fire. any tips on what i could do.
My dipstick drain hose colaped then when i replaced i noticed the short drainback hose cloged with thick oily gooe. The dipstick tube drain back is cloged.
Nathan's DIY Garage 17:27 you say you're going put a filter on the hose coming out of the valve cover (the one by the vanos) what are you using as a filter for this? can we get an Amazon/eBay link? or if I'm buying it from Advance Auto Parts, what do I look out for?
Just so you know. In the UK this will lead to an instant MOT (inspection) fail. It’s horrible from an emissions stand point and you’ll be breathing in fumes. Happy motoring
Hi, My bmw E83 crankcase vent valve went bad with pressure in engine & blow out my valve cover gasket. Do you think it could have damage any other seals?
I won't to do this how do I set the catch can on a e46 320i other problem is m o t think it an inspection will it fail emissions , as for the catch can not find any caps on the intake to get suction to the can thanks
Hi Nathan, What type of filter do you use. A one way filter [similar to a petrol filter or a small air filter [2way]. I'm not a mechanic so apologies if it is a stupid question.
Sorry on late respond, with cap off on radiator ,engine works little bit rough and like it started to misfires but doesn't blow coolant , turn cap on and engine start to shake little bit? I restarted car and works fine, wormed up any take to ride and there is no problems, not even smoke come out from exhaust , coolant level seems ok but I notice little oil drops on garage floor
i was thinking why do we need to put the CCV Valve hosing back in that Hard to Reach spot if were redoing it. can it be mounted on the out side by just using different hosed and clamps making Life easier for next time what your thought on this
Space - it was designed thinking it would never be replaced. Yes if you can find space its better to relocate it - bear in mind the hoses will not reach and you will need to modify both mounting brackets & hoses.
I'm curious, why would I need to actually take the ccv valve out of it's mounting place? Couldn't I just cut eevrything off of it and leave it there. It would eliminate having to remove the icv and the throttle body. Or am I missing something? If I were to add a pcv where would it go?
Tony Runyon , I was wondering the same thing, just leave it bolted in and deal with the venting the oil dip stick valve cover and closing the off the intake.
yes but I don't have a scanner its weird though i just put the whole intake manifold side back together and now my brake light is on theres a yellow warning sign with an arrow going around it and my eml light is on before i started the only light on was my service engine light
Would it be safe for me to block off the oil dipstick vacuum line or should I vent it like you recommend initially? Also, wouldn't venting it cause a vacuum leak or rough idle? I'm not looking to install a catch can.
+Michael Brissot If you are not going to install a catch can then leave it open, if you look at my newer video there is a single hose conversion that you can do also, if you just lt it all vent your car will smell like oil at a stoplight from the vapor coming out of the valve cover
Nathan's DIY Garage I liked your videos, very well done. I had a problem out of nowhere, I put a new ccv valve in last year, we went to go on a trip, and there was some smoke when we 1st started it, but that was it. didn't smoke the whole way. We went to leave and it was smoking at every light, and through some lean codes.i went to autozone, pulled the air filter, and noticed the ccv was covered in oil, the dipstick line came off, i put hose clamps on it, and it was OK for about 15 minutes, then it started smoking again, but not as bad and no lean codes. I drove it home, it was all highway, it would only smoke when i let off the gas, and accelerated again. so i kept my foot on the gas a little when we would slowdown. it didn't smoke again until we got off the highway. do you think i blew the diaphragm out of the ccv? all the hoses are good, and still hooked up. I hate to pull the ccv again, think i could do the catch can, or better off plugging therm? thx
Stop messing around with that ccv it will cost you a engine, just run the catch can they are super cheap, and just leave the ccv in place and cut the lines, you must plug the dipstick tube with the catch can and the vacuum log lines going to the ccv
regarding the replacement of the ccv & pipework couldn't you just replace the tubing with silicone oil vacuum lines & then just use the plastic clips to attach these to any fixings etc?? as a money saver as the silicone would last longer then the plastic tubing with widely decays/falls appart after a few yrs use
+Mal Peacock Yes you can do that, the problem most of all is the diaphragm inside the ccv ruptures, the other problem is that the ccv valve housing will actually deteriorate and break in half, the best option would be for someone to relocate the valve like they have on the newer engines, i have a old valve here ill try and get a video up of what goes wrong inside of it.
Jose Reyes 'nothing' Bmw spend years developing clean and efficient engines so they can run alongside vanos and quick tourque curves at drifferent rpm ranges. Not for us to 'delete' or remove part just to save money!
thanks for your replies, so would it still be the same for me if I do that in stead and just cover the crankcase and plug the hole. would it hurt the engine, or have lights on my dash board?
+HarrisMotorsports904 Hello just install the breather on the hose going to the valve cover, and the hose going to the dipstick , dont forget to block off the vacuum hose going to the intake vacuum log,and the small vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulator if your car has that one.
another good video Nathan...just a question before I remove CCV and convert to catch can..question is My E46 52TU 323i when filer cap is removed there is no change to engine rpm ,idle is smooth and power is ok ..have Torque Pro in car Android and LTFT is -8.6 both banks ..have not done a railpressure test but MAF is new all intake rubbers replaced
Another fantastic video, you keep My Bmw on the road. If I need Bmw info I go to your channel 1st. Is this the same procedure is there anything else I need to know for the delete on my 2004 M54 530i?
Nathan can you please measure the diameter ( in milimeters ) of the hose that connects to the dipstick tube please. I want to block it using a silicone blanking plug and I don't know what diameter should be.
You can add a T fitting to include the line, or cap it off it. All it does is distribute the fuel vapors into the intake should the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm rupture.
+Davison They make the car unreliable because of the rubber diaphragm inside of it, i posted a video last week of installing a oil catch can in place of the ccv, that seems to be the best way to replace it.
+Nathan's DIY Garage Thank you! I will consider doin that! If its that simple, why are there companies that make these devices that will allow (I guess full functionality) e85 to run in your engine? I watched the docu "pump" and am considering purchasing the device offered from (change2e85 dot com).
Hello yes you can, it depends which year and model m62tu and where your oil separator is, you basically have to disconnect the separator and leave the ccv in place, then run a oil catch can to vacuum and then to the crankcase
yes. the black ring is whats broken and it's such a tiny space on the side of the door how can i fix this or is it unrepairable and where would i buy this piece.
Yesterday i removed the CCV but i found that there is a little hose that goes from the CCV to the injector rail. I think its connected to the fuel pressure regulator. I capped that, but the car runs like crap. Doesn't have power! I researched and it should be connected to the intake. My car has the M52TU, its a 328ci. I was thinking capping one end of the distribution piece and connect the fuel pressure regulator to the Y shaped plastic inlet. Should that work?
Buck Davis yes, that little hose goes to the fuek pressure regulator located on the fuel rail. Apparently its a discharge line in case the fuel pressure regulator goes bad. My car was running like crap becouse i forgot to reconnect the camshaft position sensor. Right now i eliminated the ccv completely. I capped all the intake holes that recieved the air from the ccv, capped the dipstick return line and for now the valvecover hole is vented to the atmosphere until i get a catch can and a pcv valve

Here's where I'm at right this moment in my garage cut all lines going to the ccv..1 Capped off my oil tube (I'm I suppose to?).. 2 capped the intake but have a feed hose.. 3 cut the valve cover hose and I'm ready to put everything together just want to make sure I do everything right.. Dint want to blow a seal... Need your help!!!
my e39 has a fuel line to the ccv what do i do and my intake does have that pluged its in use the line goes under the cabin filter into the bottom the car
That's essentially how it's done on the m20, and then the air box meter freezes shut in the winter if the engine doesn't heat up enough to burn it off.
Hi Nathan. Nice work on your videos. I just did a head gasket replacement on a 2004 m54 car. I also deleted the ccv at the same time. It seems to run good with the exception of white exhaust. Would the lack of sufficient crankcase ventilation cause this to happen? thanks
+jdshumway Did you check the head for cracks? and did you install the time serts ? Does the smoke smell sweet coming out of the exhaust or does it smell like oil?
+Nathan's DIY Garage. Yes, I carefully checked the head for cracks and did an eddy current done on the head surface to check for cracks too. I did inserts on every head bolt hole. The exhaust does smell sweet (coolant) but I have no clue from where?

My E39 is M54 525i engine
Are there any disadvantage to delete original ccv systems without oil can?
For example: oil consumption or air leak problem
Will OBD detect error code after delete ccv systems?
Exactly what I was looking for. Mines leaking a little oil probably the hoses are old. I see what you’re doing I’m going to do it.
Is the best solution a catch can? Then back into the inlet? I heard people venting it to the atmosphere but causing engine issues
Great video. Could you just cap the six holes if you were not worried about stock look?
can you still pass smog if i remove the entire system?
Hi Nathan, thanks for taking the time to post these videos. They are most helpful. I did the ccv delete on my 04 e46. M54. However, my crankcase is building pressure at idle faster than the port on the back of the manifold can draw. Any ideas on how to solve this? Is pushing oil or of my valve cover gasket.
Please answer the question. I am following you from Iraq. Everything you do I do I have a problem with the engine and it is emitting gas, knowing that there is no problem in checking the device
I have similar problem. Engine smoking sometimes. I hope that not finish on replace pistons rings. Thanks
Regards
After replacign 3 CCV's I find this! Brilliant! Now to figger out how to verticalize the new valve!
yeah thats the only thing i need to figure out i got everything already purchased but i cant figure how to get valve vertical in car
why did you purchase so many?
Hello, no codes will come up, and thanks for watching
thanks thats great would it be ok to do it on my 2.5i e61 o4
04
yes it will work on that, as long as it has the m54
yes has the m54 engine thanks again man for a great channel
Thank you!
Did you figure out what kind of filter?
The easiest way is just to cap off the vacuum log on top of the intake, if you dont you will have a vacuum leak
+Nathan's DIY Garage yeh ive got you dude, nice one for the vid and replying helped out a lot 👌
Call me if you would rather chat, I'm old school and hate typing :))

+Nathan's DIY Garage Great thanks again, what's the best way to block it off and what's the auto trans refill procedure please??? :))
To block off the dipstick use a new piece of hose with a bolt and clamp it at the bolt and at the dipstick so it dont leak, this is the link to my trans fluid video,

I'm wondering the same thing. Are you done with your swap?
What kind of filter do you use for the ventilation?
It would be a whole lot easier if this wasn't a person primary means of transportation. Does the vehicle still pass California smog? Anyone in California performed this mod and still pass smog? Every time I watch your video's I'm learning something new. Appreciate the video's and the sharing of knowledge.
Great video - Thank you!!
Say, why do you have to remove the CCV? Can you just splice the hoses and block them and just leave the CCV in its place and be done with it?
Again, Thanks!
You can leave it in place
If you are in a hurry it can be "bypassed" in less time but, the old pcv will remain in the engine bay disconnected.
Have you had any other Bmw's with the 3.0 smoking blue smoke that was not the ccv?
Hope I are doing Oky Nathan...
I m a Namibian and I Owen a 325i 2004 model BMW...
Can u help me to get the timing set-up took kity Please... ?
At wat price and how will i get ?
Nathan. 03 530 no locks no wipers....it could be needed a new gbox under passenger floor .
Nathan I know my problem is near CCV or a backplate issue, tell me so if I hear intense rattling sounds in the back corner of my m54 intake manifold... what is that?? I bought a DISA kit, so that component is fine.THanks!
Hi did you find a solution since this time ?
great video i replace the front fuel pressure hose and the oil breather hose to oil stick since then i have the car ruff idle you recommend me to change all the breather hoses with the ccv or just the hoses ?
+jose Moreno There is several different options, oil catch can , ope delete, or single hose delete and of course just replacement of the ccv
asking if its not much of a problem for u to guide me im trying to do a ccv delete aslo on my 08 328i bmw asking for ur guidence on how it would be the correct way on doing so sir?
Hi Nathan what is the easiest way to test if oil separator is bad? Take off throttle body to check if it has oil??
It does make perfect sense to just replace the plastic tubes with high temp hoses and clamps.
any updates on this?
Ive got an E46 coupé with an m54b22 if i remove the pcv will i get any issues?
Oh and just to add the throttle body on that model is different because its the same engine thats fitted to the E46 they changed it on the later E39's
Hey! So I haven't done this process but I have almost no suction at the oil fill cap. Does this mean I have a large vacuum leak? Any idea where to start looking?
Great video! By doing this delete are you removing all venting of the crank case? And are you experiencing any vacuum loss by installing open filters at the dipstick vent tube and front of the valve cover?
Of course he is. Do not vent the crankcase like that, you will loose all the vacuum needed for the engine to run.
Very nice buddy, your videos gave me confidence to do this job. I'll give it a try once my CCV fails again. Thanks and keep up the good work, cheers from Brazil.
Hello I appreciate the compliment , I am trying to do videos everyday and hoping to get better at it as I go, I'm glad I could give you some insight on your car, thanks again and don't forget to subscribe if you aren't already
just done yesterday ...the car give me new feeling again...tq nathan
+TOMMY CHAN No problem im glad it helped.
are you sure the dipstick does not have to be blocked ?? it will be a vacuum leak though ???
Hey! I'm rebuilding my 530i at the moment and im curious to know if the car will throw any fault codes on "no communication" with the ccv/pcv?
nathan your my hero i just did this diy and my oil leak stop. But my bmw was broken into and the thugs broke the key tumbler and my key won't close my door or anything like totally dead. Batteries new though. now my car wont crank over to fire. any tips on what i could do.
there is a tiny chip in the key, if it falls out it will not tart, the black ring around the key tumbler reads it
My dipstick drain hose colaped then when i replaced i noticed the short drainback hose cloged with thick oily gooe. The dipstick tube drain back is cloged.
do you need to hook up vacuum lines to start the car, or can you delete them as you did? I have a 97 328i
hey i gotta take my intake manifold off to replace it, and im doing this aswell u think its easyer if i have the intake manifold off first?
Yes
Do you think it could have damage any other seals?
brill vid nath ,not got to this stage yet to drleet my ccv on my bma but will do at some point when needed ,i like your way best ,thanks tony ,uk,
I won't to do this how do I set the catch can on a e46 320i other problem is m o t think it an inspection will it fail emissions , as for the catch can not find any caps on the intake to get suction to the can thanks
Do you plug the vacuum line that goes from ccv valve to fuel rail too?
Bro absolutely the best explanation, thanks for your time and help
What size hose vents to buy for the dipstick vent and the other hose vent and where can I buy them?
Hi Nathan, What type of filter do you use. A one way filter [similar to a petrol filter or a small air filter [2way]. I'm not a mechanic so apologies if it is a stupid question.
+Corne Cathy Laubscher Hello Just a small air filter like you would see on a old v8 valve cover.
I'm glad yours is 2001 530i, because I'm going to be doing my 2001 530i, well here goes.... What part brand CCV do you recommend ?
Sorry on late respond, with cap off on radiator ,engine works little bit rough and like it started to misfires but doesn't blow coolant , turn cap on and engine start to shake little bit? I restarted car and works fine, wormed up any take to ride and there is no problems, not even smoke come out from exhaust , coolant level seems ok but I notice little oil drops on garage floor
i would clean the icv and make sure you dont have oil in the spark plug tubes
i was thinking why do we need to put the CCV Valve hosing back in that Hard to Reach spot if were redoing it. can it be mounted on the out side by just using different hosed and clamps making Life easier for next time what your thought on this
Space - it was designed thinking it would never be replaced. Yes if you can find space its better to relocate it - bear in mind the hoses will not reach and you will need to modify both mounting brackets & hoses.
help if possible m54. can I just block the equalizer off till my catch can comes and just leave the pcv there or not ty
Do you have a video for the osv delete on the m62? When I do my chain guides in the future I'm going to delete it
I'm curious, why would I need to actually take the ccv valve out of it's mounting place? Couldn't I just cut eevrything off of it and leave it there. It would eliminate having to remove the icv and the throttle body. Or am I missing something? If I were to add a pcv where would it go?
Tony Runyon , I was wondering the same thing, just leave it bolted in and deal with the venting the oil dip stick valve cover and closing the off the intake.
Hi what’s the best manufacture make to get iv got a bmw e46 325i
how about for the e38< I hear these have problems
yes but I don't have a scanner its weird though i just put the whole intake manifold side back together and now my brake light is on theres a yellow warning sign with an arrow going around it and my eml light is on before i started the only light on was my service engine light
What year is the e46? Pre 2001?
the yellow triangle is the traction control light
Would it be safe for me to block off the oil dipstick vacuum line or should I vent it like you recommend initially? Also, wouldn't venting it cause a vacuum leak or rough idle? I'm not looking to install a catch can.
+Michael Brissot If you are not going to install a catch can then leave it open, if you look at my newer video there is a single hose conversion that you can do also, if you just lt it all vent your car will smell like oil at a stoplight from the vapor coming out of the valve cover
+Nathan's DIY Garage Thanks for the reply! Your videos are extremely helpful. I refer to them for a lot of my work. Thanks again!
thank you i appreciate that
Nathan's DIY Garage
I liked your videos, very well done.
Would that stop it from emissions pass
regarding the replacement of the ccv & pipework
couldn't you just replace the tubing with silicone oil vacuum lines & then just use the plastic clips to attach these to any fixings etc??
as a money saver as the silicone would last longer then the plastic tubing with widely decays/falls appart after a few yrs use
What is the benefit of doing this mod ?!?
Jose Reyes 'nothing'
Bmw spend years developing clean and efficient engines so they can run alongside vanos and quick tourque curves at drifferent rpm ranges. Not for us to 'delete' or remove part just to save money!
@@DJSpannamanUK no oil inintake actually
@@DJSpannamanUK you think and speak like Mickey mouse.
🙈
thanks for your replies, so would it still be the same for me if I do that in stead and just cover the crankcase and plug the hole. would it hurt the engine, or have lights on my dash board?
+Venomike You cant block anything off except the vacuum line, anything else will hurt the engine
+Nathan's DIY Garage what do you mean?
+Venomike You cannot block of the valve cover tube or it will build up pressure
+Nathan's DIY Garage oh okay got you
Hey Nathan, if I wanted to bypass the ccv but not remove it, which hoses am I installing breather filters on? Thanks!
Is this the same procedure is there anything else I need to know for the delete on my 2004 M54 530i?
did you ever do this to your car?
Nathan can you please measure the diameter ( in milimeters ) of the hose that connects to the dipstick tube please. I want to block it using a silicone blanking plug and I don't know what diameter should be.
I Actually don't block it anymore but I use a small filter
What diameter is that filter?
I believe the last one I bought is 3/8 inch
Do you just cap off the fuel rail if it goes up to the fuel rail?
Did you figure this out? I was wondering the same.
You can add a T fitting to include the line, or cap it off it. All it does is distribute the fuel vapors into the intake should the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm rupture.
my 528i has line going from the back of the intake that goes under the cabin filter on the driver side it goes down to not sure whats that for

Nathan~thanks for sharing these videos , they do help a lot !!!!I have a question , Can I bypass or close these valve in 2004 x5 3.l ?Byron
the 04 x5 3.0i is still the same engine the m54 so yes you can do this
Hi Nathan. What's the advantage of removing the CCV? why not just replace it if there is a leak?
+Davison They make the car unreliable because of the rubber diaphragm inside of it, i posted a video last week of installing a oil catch can in place of the ccv, that seems to be the best way to replace it.
Thanks for the video. I want to run e85 in my 2001 bmw 325i (M54). What special (if any) things do I need to do to successfully use e85?
+Jason Fontanoz You can just put it right a m54, it might stumble on cold start if its really cold outside.
+Nathan's DIY Garage Thank you! I will consider doin that! If its that simple, why are there companies that make these devices that will allow (I guess full functionality) e85 to run in your engine? I watched the docu "pump" and am considering purchasing the device offered from (change2e85 dot com).
That will fix the cold start problem but it will make it run safe rich and not get as good fuel economy
So your the one taking engines appart at pick n pull
Can you run a hose from your dipstick tube up to the hose by the valve cover? Seems like that would kill 2 birds.
idk I think im gonna just put filters on the ends and see what happens
@@anthonyk Let me know how that goes!
Hi Nathan, Is it possible to delete the CCV on the M62 or M62tu? If so, can you advise and document? Thanks.
What car exactly is it exactly? if its a e39 i have one here
Yesterday i removed the CCV but i found that there is a little hose that goes from the CCV to the injector rail.
Gabriel Lee.. I'm about to do mine did you figure out what to do with the vacuum hose coming from the ccv?
Buck Davis yes, that little hose goes to the fuek pressure regulator located on the fuel rail. Apparently its a discharge line in case the fuel pressure regulator goes bad. My car was running like crap becouse i forgot to reconnect the camshaft position sensor. Right now i eliminated the ccv completely. I capped all the intake holes that recieved the air from the ccv, capped the dipstick return line and for now the valvecover hole is vented to the atmosphere until i get a catch can and a pcv valve
Gabriel Lee.. Thanks...
Talk to me on whatsapp +541169047324
What is the benefit? Thanks
I've not been able to find the capped off connection in back of the intake manifold.
Is this possible to do to the 2006 bmw n52?
my e39 has a fuel line to the ccv what do i do and my intake does have that pluged its in use the line goes under the cabin filter into the bottom the car
Why not connect the hose from valve cover directly into the intake manifold?
+Nathan's DIY Garage. thanks for the quick response. I know that some white smoke is expected after a head gasket replacement, but how much is normal?
It just depends on how much coolant leaked into the exhaust and converters.
