Thank you, man. Whenever I have trouble with my E46 and I resort to google and see your face I know I'll soon get the car up and running again. All of your videos are so informative and helpful, keep up the good work!
anyone else watch thse videos even when they dont need car advice? i plan on coming to cali and if youre still there when i come im gunna come check out the shop!
Thanks a ton for making the video. I just changed my CCV valve or PCV valve yesterday it took me a long time but with the help of your video made it so much easier. nice job
Thank you for the video! Got through this step by step. Really tight fit with the new connectors, but lubricated lightly with oil and things started snapping together.
After doing my own smoke test, I have a huge amount of smoke coming out of the bottom of the oil separator/dipstick hose, very helpful video on getting it out!
Yeah, theres quite a few things to remove and get out of the way and I had to fight the hose a bit but it's not the worst thing, I had another small vacuum leak around the DISA O-ring and it was easy and cheap to replace the Oring. Oddly I was still getting the engine service light, turns out BMW doesn't like certain aftermarket O2 sensors so I bought 2 Bosch units (OE M) and haven't seen the engine light since. Glad I took care of the vacuum leaks though.
Great DYAF (do yourself a favor) DIY demonstration. Thank you. I successfully did this 3 years ago on my 02 - 325xi using the Cold Climate version. In the end I had so much trouble fitting it in with the bulky sleeve, I finally tore it off. It worked fine... until now with another 50,000+ miles of driving (milage now 293,000); seems I need to do it again as I'm aiming for the 300,000 mile mark.
You sir are awesome. Bravo bravo fr bro I was going to take the whole intake manifold off and all that but watching just this part one video I got it right out and new one in and all together again in 3 hours total time. And I skipped a step which was the disa valve removal. Yes it's a little more "wrestlin" the ccv out and the new one in but saved so much time and some money doing this your way thanks again.
I remember doing this in my BMW convertible. It was a damn pain. Whoever engineered that damn plastic part in the middle of the engine needs to be kicked in the face !!!! Word of advice, make sure you use OEM Parts. Stay away from the Chinese crap. It will get brittle and break very soon i broke mine during installation cuz it was so cheap
Damn all those parts you took off I think I'll probably forget to put some parts back in I didn't think it would be that difficult 😮 I'm going to give it a shot
thanx for the video..helped me a lot saved me lot of time not to remove intake....after repair did smoke test and found 1 valve cover gourmet seal was missing under washer causing leak and ruff start up
Thank you for this vid, had a customer who pushed this job onto me without much euro-car experience and your vid helped to figure out just what the hell i am looking at with this plastic-heavy monstrosity. 🤙
I’ve learned a lot about E46 watching your videos thanks .. I took ez way out and but catch can on instead, but I’ve end up with Worst problem because oil think sucked out my rear main seal because of too much Vacuum pressure. I have Ccv ordered now hope stops oil leak from rear main seal ..
TIP: Delete the brittle, failure prone, plastic, OEM CCV and replace it with an oil catch can and PCV. The increased vacuum seals the M54 low tension piston rings better, which leads to a more responsive engine and catches all of the crap that the OEM CCV drains back in to your oil pan. I did this mod several months ago and the difference is night and day.
Thanks very much for the videos, watching a couple of times and using them as a reference as I worked gave me the confidence to tackle this job myself saving me who knows how many $$$$$'s in mechanic charges.
I did this job about 6 months ago. Seriously the hardest thing was taking off and putting on some of the boots because the clamps if they have never been changed are in a place from the factory its very hard to undue. I swear I spent maybe 2 hours just trying to feel with my fingers how to get the clamps off one small twist at a time.
Love videos bro. I've only had my e46 for 6 months and you have already saved me quite a bit of time and trouble. Keep 'em coming. They are appreciated.
@@troika101 If you're saying delete the CCV then you don't understand what it does. It is not an emission device that "robs" you of horsepower. If you delete it you will cause oil leaks as crankcase pressure has nowhere to go except to push past various seals.
heys shoplife thank you for the video I was just curious, could you access the ccv when you remove the manifold while your doing the hard coolant pipe job?
Can I replace only bottom drain hose that goes to dipstick and oil pan and do it from underneath without removing intake boots and a lot of top parts like DISA valve, throttle body...Car is 2006 with 90k miles maintained super good. I am planning to brake of tabs on the top and pull down and pry out bottom part with screwdriver and pull up. Than just fit new hose(cold weather). The bottom one was only one leaking, car was garaged and rarely driven in winter.

So it's been 2 years and no replies! I bought my first BMW a couple months ago and love but.... some things are over-engineered and the ccv is one of them. I have the 02 325ci, crank no start, overheated one day so I shut it down , and went to start it up and crank no start, I hear fuel pump, I have fuel pressure, I did a cylinder wash down and sounded like it fired some but still no start! Any suggestions guys!!!! Thanks in advance
i know this is a hella late reply bruh but what exact symptoms were you getting? i got a P0171 code and my car has a major power loss and anytime i push the car it stalls out and the traction light, eml, and brake light come on. I checked my CCV both hoses look very bad but i don't feel any holes in it but would still like to know which symptoms you exactly were experiencing
Hello, I need your help really. I own e46 330i 2003 automatic with 1 error at diagnostic. I've searched all the information on the internet, including the E46 forum and found your videos where you're talking about vacuum leaks. So I'm using bmw 1.4 scanner and have codes CB[203] and CA[202], E3[227] and E4[228] from the 2 oxygen pre-cat sensors(they're new)control limit, mixture limit rich or deviation too great, deviation rich, low fuel level signal and get randomly misfires, decrease in power, rough idle and high gasoline consumption. When I unplug air flow sensor everything is just perfect, so I think the problem is vacuum leak and due to this the system is adding too much fuel and get this codes and problems. Can you help me with an advice, is this a vacuum leak and where should I search or the problem may be the air flow sensor itself or i don't know.. The air flow sensor is showing 13kg/h at idle 700rpm which i think is normal. My oil consumption is 1ltr per 7000km which is pretty high i think.
I got a 2002 bmw 5 series similar to this blowing smoke has a misfire with low fuel code going threw oil fast runs rough any tips on how to properly inspect it also is it called a oil seperator aswell ?
Any updates ? Have the same year and model doing the same white smoke and only when I start the car and sometimes leaving stop signs, figured it was the ccv since it was doing the vacuum test
Hey so I changed the ccv on my e46 and now it doesn't want to start, I went back to make sure everything was put on correctly and it was. Do have any advice on fixing this? Could it possibly be a blown fuze? thanks in advance.
Jonathan McDermott. I hope by now you have fixed your car. If not to answer the question, you better off replacing the whole kit. It's all just as brittle
Hi, I have a question. I drive 325ci 2006 (M54), it is canadian spec. I want to change CCV, so as per all instructions i found i need to buy valve, 4 pipes and o-seal ring for oil stick. On the realoem i found out that there are 2 different types of CCV are available - Canada national version and regular one for cold climate. What is the difference? Both of them have Styrofoam cover. Can I buy regular one and install it, or I have to install Canada national version only? I'm so confused and do not want to order parts, disassemble half of the engine and see that this parts don't fit =))) No any info about that in google. Thanks
Anton Novikov ....Hi, the cold climate CCV version IS the Canadian spec. They are identical. The warm weather kit (without the padding) was not available on cars for the Canadian market (because we're always cold dammit!) but was for other markets (like the US) with the padded version an option. It's a two day DIY so you don't want to do it twice! Hope this helps
Levy Yakubov if you do that you need to apply some vacuum to the crank case at minimum, you can't just plug the holes. look up catch can setups of you really don't like the ccv
Could that be the reason my car shakes in the morning when cold and keeps saying cylinder 5 cut off? Cause I replaced all the cylinders but keeps shaking and says cylinder 5
Hi just want to ask something, i do have an e46 with p0313,p0183,p0185,p0171,p0174 Codes. Car right now is hard to start dies after stepping off gas pedal. It stalls i recently change camshaft sensor intake.still no change.then i change SP 2 out 6 right now and found oil in SP cylinder number two (also burnt).might valve cover gasket leak.also the fuel filter by previous owner didnt change Fuel filter.considering also this.anyone could give me an advise? Just to add ccv hose to valve cover broke and previous owner just connect it by heater hose.considering changing new ccv (found smudge of oil inside hose). Battery is good checking via multimeter also alternator works. Thank you very much.
