I love that they gave Simon the prairie dogging walk in this game. It's like his urgent quest is to find the top floor bathroom and sit on Dracula's throne.
Also rondo of blood, dracula x, dracula x chronicles, vampire killer on the msx, haunted castle, and castlevania legends. Maybe even order of shadows. Yeah they missed a lot of the classic style games
This game is a remake of of a reimagining of the first game. And it has a song from castlevania 4. Which is..... also a reimagining of the first game. That's goofy
i always had that question in my mind, what does speedrunners prefer? with RNG, or without? the RNG gives them that boost to try and get the best outcome at random, like a "treasure run", or they prefer a plain run that looks the same all the time, and the tiny little bits of improvements in the run that counts.
The original version came out for some obscure Japanese PC. The PSX port/remake came out very late in the PlayStation life cycle so not a lot of people know about it. If you like old-school style Castlevania it's damn good. There's also the different play modes: the arranged mode that they play on in the run is way easier (and more fun in my opinion) than the original mode which is pretty brutal. So there's some replayability if you like a challenge. Also there's a sweet opening FMV with a bunch of robed monks crushing a bloody heart over Dracula's coffin to revive him.
The version that played in this run was the original x68000, of which I agree with you The arranged one is a surprisingly beautiful acid techno rendition
playstation tv. it was the vita tv in japan, it was a thing that played vita games (and thus, psp/ps1 classics) on a tv with a controller. it ruled but sold like shit
The original X68k version has 4 sound modes:FM/PCM (which is the standard X68k output), Midi for MT-32 and compatible, Midi for SC-55 and compatible and a hidden experimental General Midi mode. It seems there was another one included for Chronicles but this sounds like the FM version to me.
ZeroTheEro the whole point of arrange mode was that it was a whole new soundtrack arrangement (with some minor tech changes too, as the runner explained). Basically it was a polished Castlevania 1 with funky new tunes
I'm pretty sure GDQ doesn't allow runners to use emulators. And emulation is the ONLY way you're ever gonna be able to play the 68k version. The Sharp X68000 machine is practically an heirloom at this point, it's THAT rare.
There isn't any difference in this case since you need to do everything in the game anyway, but generally any% means that you just try to reach the credits as fast as possible regardless of the completion percentage getting there. 100%, meanwhile, generally means that you need to fully complete the game (or, at least, complete as much of it as the game tracks): for Pokémon this might mean that you actually need to Catch 'Em All, for Metroid you'd need to collect every last missile tank, for Zelda you'd need to get all the heart pieces, and so on. For some games this might be higher than 100%, though: for example, Hollow Knight currently goes to 115% due to DLC expansions. Note also that any% often skips a lot in service of going fast, even stuff that is ordinarily required: clever jumps to skip upgrades, shoddily programmed walls to skip bosses or entire areas, strange area transition glitches to jump straight from the first boss of Ocarina of Time to the final battle against Ganon, etc. etc.
The game actually has 8 loops with increasing difficulty , all this talk of items is irrelevant since there are no collectibles just switching sub weapons.
21:48 Frankenstein? You mean Frankenstein's monster. Its a common misconception. It was Dr Frankenstein who created the monster. Its not the monster's name.
NimNom123 Yeah that super polished product that was essentially just reused assets lumped on top of each other and an upside down world to pad out game length despite a majority of the map not being made with this in mind. I love SotN trust me but a polished product it is not.

If you think that's bad, just look at Haunted Castle.
I love how the dagger is actually useful in this Castlevania
Watching speedruns of Castlevania is always fun I suck at playing them casually tho.
11:10 DON'T HIT ME DON'T HIT ME DON'T HIT ME
jerk
Glad to see another Japanese PSN version demonstration - and the first time that CV Chronicles being accepted on AGDQ.
That second boss was nuts. No idea why he did it blindfolded
I get that the arranged soundtrack takes longer to load but I’m still really sad that he didn’t go for it
Nice run, also it was nice looking at the redesigned Simon for the entire thing
Really wish this game and Adventure Rebirth were in the Anniversary Collection.
Also rondo of blood, dracula x, dracula x chronicles, vampire killer on the msx, haunted castle, and castlevania legends. Maybe even order of shadows. Yeah they missed a lot of the classic style games
@@jonaha502 Isn’t Dracula X in the Advance Collection?
@@yaboi2500 yeah it is
@@jonaha502 I just want a DS collection, dont care about these terrible clunky ass linear games
@@wallacesousuke1433 Well, we finally got one (with two flavors of Haunted Castle, to boot!).
28:32 what site is he mentioning here? I can't make it out.
Just like to say that Haunted Castle did have a painting crying blood while Bloody Tears played on one of the stages.

WoW the boss fight in this game is good
It was a joke this deserve thumbs up...Seriously it deserve thumbs up,this run is pretty good.
This game is super cool. Good run
Awesome run.

I'm currently under the impression that most speedrunners dislike RNG and aim to remove it when possible.
Never new about the existence of this Castlevania, looks pretty good.

It's pretty much just a PS1 remake of CV1.
@@jruler93 I wouldn't say it's a remake, all the levels are different, it's way harder.
@@jruler93 nah, chronicles is just a arrenged port
Frankenstein is the doctor, that was Frankenstein’s Monster .... That’ll be all
Knowledge is knowing that it was Frankenstein's monster.
Wisdom is knowing that Dr Frankenstein is the true monster.
what a neat Run!!! awesome Lurk!!
I loved the groovy style music on the 3rd stage, nice run
Great and entertaining run!
I love this channel
25:45 That's what she said.
Simon looks like Xena in this.
He does behave like a warrior. Not very lady like though.
0/10 isn't conan the barbarian Simon
Great run through
it would be great to see this done on original X68000 version instead!
Thank you, very epic indeed
Sad people weren’t yelling orb
I must be dreaming.
I actually found a run that uses OPM in Arrange Mode...
Those YM synths have a very distinctive sound for the era that just goes with the height of pixel era gfx like peanut butter and jelly. :)
I wish you could see Simon in the arrange ending.
I have this on PSP!
ORB?
Arranged?! I want to see it in original mode! The most difficult game in the Castlevania series. Four damages and you're gone!
Okay, but that would require separate strategies.
Jazz musician’s opinion: “Wicked Child” does not work as a swing/new jack swing song. The original NES chiptune version is WAY better.
The version that played in this run was the original x68000, of which I agree with you

Good Job
yes!
What is a PSTV??🤔
playstation tv. it was the vita tv in japan, it was a thing that played vita games (and thus, psp/ps1 classics) on a tv with a controller. it ruled but sold like shit
I love watching classic castlevania games, but I HATE playing them!
huh. did music change for the arrange mode is something on JP version only or some button press code?
He switched the music on the menu. That was sad. I love the rave party music of arrange mode.
Early on before the run starts they turn on the Sharp X6800 music since it loads faster.

What about using the original sharp x68000 version?
Do you realize how many hoops one would have to jump through for that?
I'm pretty sure GDQ doesn't allow runners to use emulators. And emulation is the ONLY way you're ever gonna be able to play the 68k version. The Sharp X68000 machine is practically an heirloom at this point, it's THAT rare.
I like how Konami always gets away with re-using levels and music in their games lol. They're great games tho.
Em pouco tempo
whats the difeence between any% and 100%???
100% is getting all items like getting all heart containers and expasions for arrows and bombs in Zelda, any% is completing as fast as possible

Any% is just getting to the end as quickly possible.
100% is getting every optional collectable along the way.
This game has so little polish compared to SOTN
It's a port/ reskin of the Sharp 68000 game from 4 years prior.
Also it's basically a different genre of game. What do you mean by little polish.
This game also originally came out in 1993, on hardware from the mid 80s.
NimNom123 Yeah that super polished product that was essentially just reused assets lumped on top of each other and an upside down world to pad out game length despite a majority of the map not being made with this in mind. I love SotN trust me but a polished product it is not.
