One thing I edited out of the video cos it was too long and mopy :)) big hauls are not the only way to make a collection, so please don't think that I want to promote throwing money mindlessly at orchids. 6 years ago, when my Oncidium collection was just starting, I was starting new too, moved out of my previous house, quit my job to pursue a business on my own and for a while money was little. My Oncidium collection was the food for my mind and I built it by buying very discounted sick orchids, which I treated and I learned from. Most lived and they were very dear to me. So a collection can be built with saved discounted orchids, swaps with friends, or with the help of orchid society members, if you have one in your country. I am fortunate now to have the possibility to make budgets for my channel and collection, but it hasn't always been like this. One thing that never changed was the thrill of growing orchids, be them healthy, full price, discounted, sick, or divisions 😃
👌🏼.... Looks like he hasn’t seen your comment yet. You keep up on your amazing work Danny. You have only inspired a lot of people like me to enjoy orchids.
Growing sick orchids healthy again is an adventure and buying the healthy orchid and messing them and turning them sick and making them again healthy is like riding the roller coaster which I do mostly sadly but it taught lots and lots of lessons in my life Danny always have videos how to rejuvenate sick orchids that's helpful on the process
I wish I had friends with orchids addiction to exchange with😞 Most of my big hybrids are from sale discount, with no flowers so i had no idea of how they looked like untill the next blooming , just few species I bought full price but only because I felt more confortable with phals and i wanted to try growing botanicals. That's how my tiny collection started. After thai i think i'll stop to the Garden center nera my home and se if i find some sales🤣
Looking forward to the repotting . Really appreciate your insight into the different climates that your viewers may live in I am in Central Florida hot and humid mid 90s most of the year Fahrenheit that is
Wooooow!!!!! Stunning plants!!!!! 😍😍😍 I have quite a few orchids, but I only own one oncidium, a gift from my boyfriend, and even though I want to buy all the orchids in the world, I won't until either one of the ones I already have ever reblooms for me... Stunning plants!!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful flowers and know how. I may attempt some oncidiums and a brassica because you're giving me courage. I love when you show your flowers in bloom. I'm kind of on the depressive side and you have no idea how cheerful and helpful your videos are to me. Keep doing them.
Oncidiums have to be my favorite. 😍 I'm going to my first orchid show in 3 weeks with only 3 orchids on my list but I'm sure I'll come home with way more!
the majority of my collection are oncid intergenerics it seems, what a great haul! i cannot wait for the repot marathon!!!! also the winter wonderland is one that i own and i love the blooms!
I just love this video. Watched it when it was first uploaded and I’m back to watch it all again. So many beautiful orchids! Any chance of an update on all of these, Dannie?
Very beautiful flowers ! It would be soo interesting to see what's the situation of their roots in the pots and how they are repotted... Will you film that for us ? I know you have so many repotting video's but they are exciting ! :) With every orchid that you repot and show it to us it's like going to explore uncharted territories ! Every one of them is interesting and potentially increasing our knowledge about how to care for our orchids.
Hi, Danny! I suspect the one you liken to Wilsonara Franz Wichmann is actually a pinkish example of Wilsonara Nippon (Wichmann carries it as Odontoglossum Nippon). I bought that recently, and I found that there was actually quite a bit of variety among the Nippons: Some were clean white with Bordeaux spots, while others had a more pinkish tinge. Some were more fragrant than others. I settled on the plant with the best fragrance and flower shape, though it did lack the attractive pinkish tinge.
Hi Danny. I picked up an oncidium wildcat yellow this past winter from an orchid wholesaler around the corner from me. This wholesaler sells to flower shops in my area and mainly lavender phals. Anyways when I purchased the oncidium noticed that the lot, all the bulbs were shriveled perhaps thirty or forty plants all wildcats and all were in spike. I thought perhaps could solve the shriveling by just keeping it well hydrated, but failed. I wanted to wait from repotting till the flowering dropped and soon afterwards it started to push out two vigorously growing buds. I decided ( beginning February) to finally change and refresh it's media and especially with spring coming soon and it that the good growth might continue. But upon changing the media (from coco coir to spagnum moss) the growth stopped. I'm thinking now, perhaps weak genes and sensitivity to movements and any changes to environment might be detrimental to it's roots and growth. Good luck on your repotting and have terrific weekend. Hope to see in future your guys doing well.
I went to the Western North Carolina, USA Orchid Society show and smelled the Shari Baby for the first time. Wow! I usually favor phals and cattleyas but I see the appeal.
May I also ask where you live or which climate are you referring to? I live in Greece, so I'd like to know more about which types of orchids would do great here, in our usually hot and rather dry climate (this year has definitely been an exception though). Thank you!!
Hi Dani, we had them at the Lidl supermarket here in Fuerteventura by the end of February. I bought my self a total of 10 orchids and chose some of yours as well. Almost all of them I switched already to self watering pots with leca. Let's see how they respond. Have a good weekend!
Oh. I love these type of Oncidinae hybrids. Too bad they need more light than I can give them for the room they take, otherwise I would go wild too. The only one of these I keep despite size is the Sharry Baby. Takes half of my only full Sun window, but gives hundreds of flowers and the show lasts months and months. And you are spot on : they drink water like crazy.
I usually stock up on oncidiums in July when they are usually really cheap in the supermarkets for about 2 weeks. They're usually fairly healthy. The rest of the year they're really hard to find here unless I go to the Orchid nursery. Occasionally a local garden centre has the Inca Orchids nice and healthy but the range they keep is small. A local big Diy store has the same range but they're always really expensive and in really bad condition, they just keep them until they're dead and don't discount else I'd go and rescue them.
Wow, I’m so excited for you! I love those patterned hybrids with the classic “Odontoglossum” shape. I recently found a spotted pink and a pure white with some red dots (looks like an Odontoglossum crispum) at my local nursery. I had to have them, but I want more, even though they are not easy. I’m super jealous of your Shady Lady - the colours and patterns just pop! Question: Did these all come with ID tags, or did you identify them yourself?
That is a gorgeous haul of orchids! I'm trying to nurse my mom's orchid back to health and I'm wondering if it's too old. Do orchids have a life span? She got this one last year but I noticed several old flower spikes when I re-potted her.
Gorgeous. The purples are my faves!! Is there a tell in pseudo bulb shape, leaf shape / colour or flower style to show oncidium /odontoglossum difference, or is it a case of waiting to see if it flowers? Being in the UK, damp and cool I can manage, but knowing the best medium before repotting and watering, would be helpful XD
My Oncidium (titanium?) is doing something really bizarre and I have roots coming out of the top of an old pseudopod (which dropped its leaves with 48 hours of delivery) along with a new bud, which I think is a new set of leaves. Mine also arrived in poor condition too!
I’m also building my intergenerics collection. My Aliceras I simply love. I’m scared of them though in my hot N Fl summer climate this I’m looking forward to a video from you on reporting these and their care. Media and such. I’m scared to try and keep them outside this summer due to the heat. Thank you! Beautiful plants!
Old video I know, but hopefully this info is helpful. Around Christmas I bought a Beallara for my mom and it looks a lot like the first one you showed, it's called Beallara Big Shot "Hilo Sparkle", maybe yours is almost like that.
Thank you for you videos.. I am fan.. 😏 Question! Can u make a video some day about choosing the right pot or container for your orchid? I have some self watering setup inspired by you but I always struggle when I have to buy compatible containers... Put together 2 pots that are compatible in size is just... À constant fail.
Oh my gosh I have the pink one that reminds you of the one you used to have! The ID tag says mine is a Dgmra. Pluto’s Drummer ‘Pacific Pink’ I’m trying to recover mine as well, the nursery had it completely bound in tight sphagnum moss with bark chips on top, terrible for my climate, root rot was inevitable when I had purchased it:( there’s new growth, but vertically no roots:’(
I purchased 3 oncidiums few days ago and they have the same tag as yours. I live in Germany so I was wondering what seller it might be. I bought them at my local hardware store / Garten center (obi). Original price was 14,99euro but I got them for 3,49. I picked the most healthy ones with hydrated and multiple pseudo bulbs and mature flower spikes with unopened buds. So that was great deal. I also liked the big variety of oncidium they have. I was wondering why they have these white pots as u can't see thru them. Do oncidiums benefit from that? I jus cut some slits into mine to help the air circulation .
I realise this is an old video and maybe someone else has said this already but I think the first one that you love so much could be a Odontoglossum Nippon 🌸
So BEAUTIFUL!!!I AM looking for some oncid intergernarics in my area..I live in palm coast Florida, can anyone help me find out where I can get some of these beautiful orchids????
The yellow and burgundy no tag one looks a bit like my Wil Brennan Scott Barfield, but the lip on yours is yellow, while mine is more on the cream side. Hopefully you can find the name.
After yesterdays(?) video I find myself watching the specks to see if they move... I saw one too on (I think) the steak of the first orchid. I think it had wings... Did the steaks, by the way, have a touch of mould on them? 'twould be great if one could get plastic steaks somewhere...
I guess the yellow Wilsonara is known in our country as Oncidium St. Anthony Egypt. You may try to match them... I have that one currently not in bloom
@@MissOrchidGirl just in time nice!! So more water retentive medium!! Got it I am a bit scared of rotting the roots :0 THANK YOU A LOT :D love your channel its greaaaat

I still can’t get over you finding these in a flower shop!
Very nice ! What a haul! 🌿🌿🌿 I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get to rebloom them all! Looking forward to the progress videos.
Amazing haul to replace so many lost ones. Big fan of intergenerics too.
Very nice flowers. Just can't wait for repotting video. Always learning something new from you.

And I believe we need something like this about Chinese cymbidiums!
Your haul videos are my most favorite videos!
What lovely orchids to add to your collection!
Oh great find. Live all of your videos.

Hi, yep that was my second guess as well! It might actually be that one :)
I guess the yellow Wilsonara is known in our country as Oncidium St. Anthony Egypt. You may try to match them... I have that one currently not in bloom
Lindíssimas mas a que fiquei apaixonada foi a última lindíssima , sou de Santa Catarina.
The first one looks a lot like my Dgmra. Pluto's Drummer 'Pacific Pink'.
